New Electric Eel Figure

I've talked to some folks locally here about this new figure with the recent news that it was in fact an AA figure and I got a rather mixed reaction. Most were like "no way, that's an AA?" I showed the pics of the figure to them and pointed the button on the chest and like I said, reactions were about 50/50. Most agreed this was one of the more sensible ideas for AA but some wouldn't buy the figure since it was AA. Some were people who said they loved it before that info came out.

I've also noticed here that several people said they won't buy it since it's AA, but before it was known, they praised the figure and said it was really cool.

I liked the look of it before and after and I have to agree it is the most sensible of the AA ideas so far since there's no lost articulation and frankly, there's never been a glowing Gi Joe figure like that so it's a first.

I'd like to know some thoughts about it. I'd like to think I'll get some genuine intelligent thoughts from the board, and from most I will, but I already know some people who will turn this topic into a flame post.

having a perfectly articulated figure with AA is fine, and the EEL, is a show of what I dont mind seeing...but cant say anything about the colors...they still suck

someone fire the team in charge of paints!

AA sux when it takes away from the posebility..(wv9 SE and duke)

but having a button concleaed in the chest...now thats COOL!

and I cant wait to see it in person, EEL is a great character..and deserves a nice sculpt like this one has!, and i dont see how anyone can complain...the figure is 100% joe...but with a light in his chest.!!!! ITS CALLED TECHNOLOGY!!!...we are 20 years ahead of wha joe was...even in the toy world tech advances occur...

imo...hes a good figure...one that makes the bad ones worth buying #US1#

While not thrilled at all that AA even exists, I've got to conceed that this is one of the ways you could incorporate AA into a figure and still maintain a non-suck status.

I'm still looking forward to this guy, just as much as before when I thought it to be a normal figure.

I find it kinda interesting through all this discussion about how bad AA is that nobody really talks about Slice. I believe Slice and this new Eel are the only current figures that have AA that works, but even Slice is problematic.

And since it is rumored we are getting a new Slice figure, will it be "normal" since we do already HAVE an AA Slice?

i like the light up feature, but i do agree about the color, a real electric eel is gray not bright yellow where a joe can see them 100 yards away.

Heh, maybe these guys are INTENDED to be targets. The Joes chase them while the real Cobra divers (Morays, Hydro-Vipers, etc.) sneak past the defenders.

LOL...but does that mean all VvsV troopers are just diversions from the real ones @loll@

Well as far the Electric Eels' AA feature goes, it is the least

intrusive to date. So based on that I will probably get one or

more since he is a troop builder. However you give me the choice

of taking home one with AA vs one without, I'm taking the non AA

Eel home every time. The only reason, I am willingly to buy an AA Eel

at this point is I'm still not convinced Hasbro will give every AA

figure, the standard figure treatment.

Well my opinion of him hasn't changed since I found out he was an AA figure.I still like the clear plastic(allways been a sucker for clear plastic)and now with the light up feature I like him even more. And since normal Joe articulation isn't taken away(well he'll probally be missing the backpack hole) my only complaint is his colors.Hopefully when he pops up next he'll keep the clear plastic and light up feature but be cast in a nice blue plastic.

Paint, paint , paint.

When will Hasbro start to paint these guys differently. The only thing that's been stopping me from buying many of the new figure, (with the exception of AA) is the paint job.

Why Hasbro?

i dont like the idea of the glow. i want a simple eel, that can go along with my other original one. i dont mind the a/a, itd be better suited on a toxo viper. i'll still buy this figure, i wont build it, but i'll own at least one. i prefer realism in a military line, and an underwater troop that glows doesnt sit to well.

actually electric eels are not gray. they're dull yellow or dull yellow green or green brown...

i think the neon for this figure was hasbro trying to make the figure look like it was "electric". not making an excuse, just sayin'...

Took the words right out of my mouth. That's why I can except the color on this figure. It just wouldn't look as cool in a blue or blk imo. And since the aa doesn't take away from the standard Joe articulation I really don't have a problem with it.

I don't quite follow. Which guys are you talking about?

Hasn't that been one of our complaints, a dozen different colors for the same exact mold? Or maybe it was just me....

this figure needs to be clear black, or blue not piss yellow. @loll@

That is true. Blue is the color most often associated with electricity

My guess is that their rationale behind the EELS coloring may be tied into THIS Max Steel figure's accessory. Note the clear yellow coloring behind THIS light up eel as well.

If Hasbro ripped the idea off from that it isnt suprising, as the recent incarnation of Action Man's premise mirrors that exactly of Max Steel. Either Hasbro has been ripping off Matell or Mattel ripped off Hasbro and now Hasbro is ripping them off in return. Doesnt really matter which scenario is right. The point is that the AA EEL bears more than a coinicidental resemblence to a piece of Max Steels gear.

Personally I still think the light-up shtick would work a lot better if they made a SUB-LINE of Cyberspace fighters, with the main focus remaining on a more conventional Joe vs Cobra conflict.

Kinda like all the sub-groups form the 80s? (Ninja Force, Eco-Warriors, etc.).

I think Hasbro realizes stuff like that would be stuck as peg-warmers.

How many people plan putting up with Kamakura just to get Destro, for example?
