Guys,

I'm planning to start collecting PVC-figures.

But now I have an issue.

I found 3 kinds of PVC-figures:

- Heroes of Cybertron

- SCF

- Mega SCF

---------------------

What are the differences between these 3 ??

(quality, level of detail, posability, cartoon accurate colors ??)

* I hope you guys can help me out.......

OK:

SCF: Came first, takara versions, pretty awesome.

HOC: North american releases of takara figures, crappy paint jobs on most, but some figures available that were previously chase figures in japan.

MEGA SCF: Pretty awesome, a lot bigger than the regular ones, but limited selcetion (theres only like 6-8 figures in this line i think.

They're all pretty cartoon accurate and such, the megas are more posable but the smaller ones are more there for 'mini statues' i guess.

Hope that helps ya, other people can probably expand on what i said.

@loll@ @loll@ Takara PVC: Sold in random. MISB. Come in 3 versions (regular, clear, and pewter). Also come with a clear base. The figure stands about 3 inch. Better paint application. Price ranging from $5 to $8.

HOC: Sold in MOC, not in random. Come in only 1 version. The back of the head has clear plastic so when light enter this chamber, it makes the eye glow. Comes with a trading card as oppose to a clear base. It is basically the same as Takara PVC except the paint application isn't as great as Takara.

Mega SCF: Figure stands about 5 inch, has many articulation, comes with many accessories. MISB type. Very expensive ranging from $20 to $25.

Another thing is that hasbro pvc are made from transparent plastic while takara is made from color cordinated plastic. That is why Takara doesn't have sloppy colors There is a sale at hlj for the 6' PVC. g1 hot, rod, and vict are 3 dollars.

I actually liked the paint on the HOC more then the Japanse PVC line... it was shiny-er.

The ONLY discrepecy I found is Thundercrackers fists are black instead of gray on the HOC.

Other then that though... compared to the PVC I have, I would much rather have the HOC.

But that is my opinion.

Yeah, I think everyone pretty much nailed it, with some degree of sucess.

The PVC's started in Japan in 2000, in a series of "ACT"s. The first 8 are based on Generation 1, while 9 and 10 were Armada-based. Tey were available in cases of 12 fully sealed and generic boxes, so you didn't know who was inside until you opened it. That's why prices are so high on many of them. You're paying

#1: for the identifid figure

#2: For the popular character vs the unpopular character

#3: for the colored version instead of the clear or pwewter versions.

Acts 1-3, I beleive, included color and clear versions of all 6 characters, plus two chase figures. From Acts 4-8, there wee color and pewter-colored versions, two regular chases, and a 6-piece deluxe-PVC (Metroplex, Fort Max, and Scorpinok) included in the mix. The chances of getting one of the 2 chase figuires, or a deluxe body part were pretty good, but if you bought a full case of twelve, you were only guaanteed one of the three chases.

The Heroes of Cybertron were released on cards, so you could buy the character you wanted. Hence low prices. They only ran five waves, and were limited to American G1 characters (with chases like Emporer Starscream, and the Paradron Medic repaint of Arcee), and a few Japanese characters (Like God Ginrai, released here as an armored Optimus Prime. In japan, Ginrai was a different character). They had the light=piped eyes, and the shiney paintjobs. Otherwise, they're just as good as the Japanese versions.

Both of the regular PVC lines have lots of articulation, based directly on how many parts they have. The Japanes versions came unassembled. Fists plug into forearms, arms plg into chest, head does the same. So, literally, anywhere there's a plug-in point, you have a swivel joint by default. So heads can turn, fists can turn, and arms can be raised and lowered. zTypically, below the waist, the legs can turn, but have to be in one place, or they're uneven with the floor, and simply look awkward.

They all stand about 3" tall, with the Deluxes a bit taller, but not much.

The MegaPVCs aren't 6 inches tall. I dunno who thought that up. They stand just a wee-bit taller than a modern day GIJoe, so about 4.5" at most. They have actual articulation (like a 4.5" Gundam figure, except a bit more limited), and extra accessories to recreate specific scenes from the toon. G1 got Optimus Prime, Hot Rod, Megatron, Starscream, Star Saber, and LioKaiser. Armada got Super Optimus Prime, Megatron, Hot Shot, and Demolisher.Optimus came in toon colors (flat) and metalics, with different accessories for each. Ditto for Megatron, although I think the Metallic version was a Japanese con exclusive. Hot Rod had a Rodimus Prime counterpart, but I believe the basic figure was the same. Hot Rod came with his hand buzz-saw, from the movie, while Rodimus had the large Rifle he used in the series.

Starscream will be repainted as Skywarp, an exclusive for the OTFCC, and the Collector's Club, and the first American-made Mega PVC.

I liked the Megas when they came out, but there simply weren't enough characters to keep me interested. Plus, the Armada ones just look *too* cartoony. The regular size PVCs were definitely better, for quantity, and kitsch. They're so cute! And the parts are interchangable, so if you have a alot of extras, you could mix and match, repaint, and custom-make your own Trasnformers. While collecting them, I used to give my girlfriend the pewter and clear figures to repaint on her own. She enjoyed the opportunity to "#$###-out" my favorite toys, painting Optimus prime in purple and pink, and giving his trailer a yellow polka-dot motif. Hey, it made her happy!
