Don't know what you guys have heard or seen but I talked to Jesse Falcon who said there will no longer be any chasers. Now there will just be variants. Dark Phoenix for the next wave and Cable for the other one.

Sounds like the same thing, just with a different name.

Uhh, no. I don't think anybody ever had a problem with chase figures that were just minor variations of existing figures(unmasked Wolvie, gold Iron Man, etc.). What pissed people off was when brand new characters like Goliath, Red Skull, and potentially Phoenix, Vision, and Black Widow, were chase figures.

Anyways, thanks for the news, Jay, you just made me a very happy collector(though the scalpers are probably a bit depressed now). I just hope we get an Avengers boxed set with "apology" Red Skull and Giant-Man figures, like the new Venom and Green Goblin in the Spidey set.

You're right. If they are packed evenly, fans will be happy. As far as the "variant" theory - nobody wants an unmasked Wolverine - do they? Fans are just as happy getting a regular Wolverine. Wait - they are still hunting for the unmasked version? It's not just a little variation? What about the gold Iron Man - nobody wants him, do they? What? They do? I'm shocked!! Unfortunately, if there is 1 Dark Phoenix in every 6 cases, how is that better for the fans that want her? She's still a chase - oops - now she's a "variant". Same goes for Cable and anyone else that gets the "variant" treatment.

Could be variants like in Muppets cases:

Evenly packed figures, 3 each of four different characters per case. One character will have two normal versions, then one repaint per case.

Don't know how that math would work with the ML cases. But maybe it's something along those lines.

Maybe.

I'm not going to get my hopes up yet. But it looks like I will have a good chance to at least get a regular Phoenix, and for that I'm happy.

. . . like the new Venom and Green Goblin in the Spidey set.

I don't think that Green Goblin is all that new. He seems to be a new head sculpt on the Hobgoblin body that came out a couple of years ago.

Yeah, for obsessive-compulsive fans who need every version of every figure made, I'm sure it's frustrating. But I don't think there's any way we're going to get rid of chase figures completely. It's an idea that's apparently caught on and nearly all the big companies are doing it by now.

So to me, and to most other collectors I've seen on message boards and websites, it's the lesser of two evils. I'd rather not be able to get a slightly different version of a figure I already have than not be able to get a brand new character that I don't have a figure of. If I find a hobbit with a Peter Jackson head sculpt, I'll pick it up, but I won't be too upset if I don't. However, it'd be really upsetting if I couldn't find a major character like Denethor.

I understand your frustration and I feel bad(especially since both of those Cables look so good), but I think this is a big step up from what we had with ML4 and ML5.

I know, I can tell.

I'm just saying, when the Ramos Goblin was released last year, a lot of people complained that it wasn't the classic Goblin design. A lot of people also complained about the lame v-crotch Venom. These boxed set figures seem to be addressing those complaints. That was what I meant.

Ultimate Rhino looks awesome. So does Carnage, who I still haven't found.

Scorpion has a pretty good sculpt(I'm glad they went with that costume), but why doesn't he have ML articulation? It wouldn't have been too hard to reuse another figure's body for him. Pretty disappointing, but I'll pick him up because he's a cool villain.

(Ultimate?)Peter Parker is okay. I would've rather had a straight-up figure released, but I'll definitely get this one.

Ultimate Lizard is disappointing too since we still need a really good classic Lizard with the lab coat. It's a good figure, though.

Symbiote Spider-Man is pretty much perfect. I'm guessing he has the same body as Deadpool.

Great ML shots, too. Hadn't noticed the interchangeable heads on Green Goblin and Weapon X before. And Cain Marko's headsculpt is pretty good.

So with "variants", how will they be done now? Are they gonna be like for every 2 normal, there will be 1 variant per case? or are they still gonna be a crapshoot and the name just get got changed to variants instead of chases? The people need to know Jay...

This is great news, but I'm still wondering how these will be shipped in their shipments. So far, ML6's line-up has...

-Wolverine

-Juggernaut

-Deadpool

-Punisher

-Cable (Blue/Yellow)

-Cable (Liefeld)

-Phoenix

-Dark Phoenix

...so there's 8 figures in the bunch. So will Toy Biz have at least one of each of these figures in the 12-figure assortments (with the variants included), or will the variants be randomly put in assortments sort of like chases, just to a lesser extent (if that makes sense)?

so from what i get from that is there will be no more new figures that are chases and they are going back to the variants? awesome news!!!

one question though. dark phoenix for series 6, one of those cables for series 7 and...who for series 8? Black widow? someone else? or a variant of her because from past precedent (reused parts and bases) she has chase written all over her.

Deadpool's on the Daredevil body.

The new Black Costume Spider-Man appears to be an all new body, incorporating some of the Spider-Man 2 movie Super Poseable articulation: he has a hinge in the lower torso, then a slide in the upper. He also appears to have forward AND upward shoulders. So does the Spidey with the set, though it's much more awkward, and looks like he's recently been bitten by a radioactive shoulder.
