Star Wars Trilogy DVD Discussion Thread

check it out guys, even more possible evidence the OT will in fact be here next year. This from AICN.com

Some interesting things came to light. The marketing timeline for Star Wars is as follows - This week, The Clone Wars, then the original Star Wars trilogy is being released September 2004, then Episode 3 teaser advertising begins in January of 2005, Episode 3 May 2005, Episode 3 DVD/VHS November 2005. One little fun fact - seems that they have TWO Star Wars television ideas floating around the ranch...one would be animation and the other - LIVE ACTION. These television projects would be in 2006. Let's hope they're better than the Star Wars Christmas Special, or those Ewok films.

I hope that it is true, one of the reasons why my interest in SW waned was because I so wanted a OT DVD release. I mean as soon as DVD players were out I so anticipated a SW release. But sadly it did not come. Since only getting a player in the last few months, everything I wanted on dvd seems to be getting released or will be. Looks like Xmas 03 will be DVD mad at my house. 2004 looks to be a excellent year for releases! @yipee@

Sorceress

Add it all up & it does look like there's a very strong chance we'll have the OT on DVD in some form, either SEs or originals (hopefully), by this time next year. @firedevil@

Damn I'm good. @firedevil@

From DigitalBits.com

Well, we've finally heard from our sources on that meeting that Lucasfilm held yesterday at the Presidio with their retail partners. Here's the skinny, and you guys are gonna love it... Star Wars: Episodes IV, V & VI are coming to DVD in September of 2004. The animated series of Clone Wars shorts appearing soon on the Cartoon Network will also be released on DVD, possibly before the end of this year. The teaser campaign for Episode III will begin in January of 2005, leading up to the May theatrical release. Finally... Episode III will hit DVD in November of 2005. This is going to be all over the Net soon, and you can already read more about it at Ain't it Cool News. Keep in mind that none of this is official until Lucasfilm publically announces it... but this is certainly, at long last, the real deal.

I wa sn't sure if this should be a new thread or not; and then I read this story which includes some of the same information. I can only hope it's not all true.

I read this article over at TFN about the "Ultimate Edition" (2006?); and it gives me hope and makes me cringe at the same time. While there are a lot of needed changes, there is as lot of over-kill, imo. Keeping in mind, it's still rumored, here's my $.02...

I've heard rumors about including 'The Imperial March" in ANH, they have a few too many cases of 'remixing' for my tastes.

CG ROTJ Jabba and Ewoks  no thanks.

I don't like the idea of replacing Sebastian Shaw w/ Hayden; I really don't like the idea of adding Padme'

While AOTC's Yoda's did inspire visions of new ESB training, I thnk ESB should remain his reappearance.

I am hoping for the revised holo Emp and a few enhanced effects here and there. The blobs, please remove the black blobs on the side of the Emperor's head :)

I guess it would make some sense for Temuera to redo the voices, we'll see...

Well, if Lucas doesn't keep the films as their original theatrical release, go out and invest in a laserdisc player, and find the trilogy. At least it's in its original aspect ratio. My cousin got the trilogy on laserdisc a while back and he is not letting go of 'em, that's for sure.

A buddy Transfered the SE versions to DVD for me in Doulby Digital. They look pretty sharp on my 52" TV Screen. But Personally the only thing I liked about the SE was the end of ROTJ where the celibrations were taking place. Also the music was much more fitting. Personally Lucus should have never have messed with the orignal and should stop.

Please George, make it stop.

Well when it comes to the SE there were something I supported and others I didn't... Things like, the CG Dewbacks, the new appraoch to Mos Eiselys (Although I wish they had used a model of the Landspeeder istead of an all CG one. I just think it would have looked better that way.) Showing the Wampa, the extended Cloud City Approach....opening up of Cloud City, and the extended ending of Jedi. There were some things I hated, like Greedo Shooting first, the whole Jabba scene at Mos Eiselys, and the Jedi Musical number.

If he was gonna add/remove some more stuff I'd kinda hope he'd Put the Greedo scene back the way it was....in fact leave the Cantina alone that whole sequence was perfect the way it was, Fix the Jabba, Fix the Emperor from ESB stuff like that. Stuff that actually needs fixing, not stuff that is just whim. And for Gods Sake take a comp and move Luke closer in the Skiff scene where Boba Fett flies by and he misses kicking that skiff guard by like a foot....yet he still falls down. LOL

Classic Trilogy DVD Announcement Close

Thu, Feb 05, 04 04:44:26 PM EST

We've received information from a reliable source that an official announcement regarding the much rumored Trilogy DVD is expected soon. Our source says next Tuesday (2/10) will bring official word that the Special Edition versions of Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return Of The Jedi will be released in a four disk set on September 21 of this year. No mention was made of additional footage, or the contents of the fourth disk, but more information will likely be known next week.

SW on DVD: Lucas Confirms Director's Commentary

Tue, Feb 10, 04 01:33:04 AM EST

"The Washington Post has more details on the old classics headed to DVD. Included in this report was new info from Lucasfilm on the commentary and extras:

The boxed set was scheduled to come out after the release of the sixth movie, now known simply as "Star Wars: Episode III." But the films' creator, George Lucas, "found some time" to work on the DVD version, said Jim Ward, Lucasfilm vice president of marketing and distribution and DVD executive producer.

"He was willing and eager to make it happen," Ward said.... "

A Lucasfilm spokeswoman could not confirm which actors or crew members would appear for the extra features on the DVD. The fourth disc in the set will include a feature-length documentary about the "Star Wars" saga and never-before-seen footage from the making of the three films.

Mark Hamill is supposed to do a Hyperspace chat in he next week or so; rumors speculate he may also do his commentary while at the ranch.

@hmmm@

And,...uh....for those wanting the Original versions of the films,

you may not want to read this article.

Here's something I found today:

STAR IS REBORN: The original Star Wars trilogy will at last debut on DVD Sept. 21. The four-disc box set will feature the rereleased special editions of all three films — not the original theatrical versions. Also included: a new documentary about the making of the films and never-seen footage.

Man after all of these year the Star Wars Trilogy is coming to DVD. I don't care about the SE but Iam happy that it will be on DVD. I have to started take a rerves copy at Best Buy or Suncost. Sept 21 is the biggest day in DVD history.

Fox news just reported it too.

It said that it'll be the late 1990's altered versions. They also said that Lucas said that he'll never release the original cut on DVD, and only gave "artist's rights" as the reason. Lucas can be such a bastard sometimes. Fox also reported that even more work is rumored to being done on the trilogy.

Anyone see the South Park satire of Lucas messing with his own work? It's funny as hell. The episode is called "free hat." The kids end up stealing the original "Raiders of the Lost Ark" to keep Lucas from messing with that too.

So does that mean that these will be called the 'Extra Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy'?

I read the news about the Star Wares trilogy being released on DVD.A lot of folks are up in arm about the DVDs being the Special editions.Frankly,we are getting Star Wars DVD,people should be happy we are going to get is in this format at all.I find it kind of funny. That's my take on this.

I disagree.

I think the special editions ruined several aspects of the films. And my main complaint is not the Greedo/Han scene.

I have the THX remastered editions on Laserdisc & will stick with those for "pure SW enjoyment."

All the same - I am interested in extra features of the movie.

I say - If everyone in the world is always settles with what we are given, then we will never make anything better.

Chalk that up next to "If you want something done, do it yourself." Gimme DVD control, Lucas. :)

I am happy that we are getting Star Wars on DVD.....but I am not planning to buy *those*.
