I remember that they were re-formatted into Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps but was there ever any clarification of who specifically turned into who?

skywarp and the insecticons turned into sweeps,

the insecticons that arent sweeps where in the armada,

and bombshell[i belive i'll go check]turned to cyclonus

Sharpnel, Kickback, and THundercracker = Huntmens, the Sweeps

Bombshell and Skywarp = Two Cyclonuss.

It's definately an intersting question... Thundercracker is unmistakably turned to Scourge... although in the movie Scourge and the Sweeps look identical, when in later episodes Scourge looks sorta different sometimes then the drone Sweeps.

The animators mess up and make both Bombshell AND Skywarp turn into Cyclonus.

Some people believed that the second being he made was a character named Armada, and I believe a fan-fic or two has went on about that.

Really though it's just an animation mistake. There should have only been one Cyclonus in that scene.

I like to belive because of his loyalty and colorscheme Skywarp turned into Cyclonus... but then again Bombshells colors fit close to the bill too. Bombshell was in the forefront of the scene... but Skywarp is SO DAMN MUCH COOLER.

So to answer your question... Megatron is made into Galvatron, but the rest really don't matter... but because there were two new loyal characters, and drones... and because there were two loyal seekers and the insecticons who could create drones of themselves, I'd believe Thundercracker's corpse is definatly Scourge and Skywarp's corpse is definately Cyclonus with the expendable clonable sweeps being made from Insectioncon remains.

I think that the second Cyclonus was supposed to be another sweep. As for who was Bombshell, Skywarp would make more sense as he was always loyal to Megatron as MTMTE Episode 1 showed. Plus him and TC were always a duo so I'd like to think it continued with Cyclonus and Scourge

Just a quick note in the Wreckers story line Both Cyclonus and Skywarp show up at the same time. I think that maybe the Insecticon did become Cyclonus.

The better question is what happens in the next season. Sometimes there is a whole damn fleet of Sweeps following Scourge, while in the movie there are clearly only 3 of them total. Also, the Insecticons are seen in the background in some of the season 3 episodes. So....my question is this:

 

Since the Insecticons could replicate themselves (a power that was neither explained or used very well, to be honest), do you think that maybe the Sweeps can do that too? And maybe some of the Insecticon clones survived?

Though the animation shows Bombshell and Skywarp turning into Cyclonus, that obviously cant be correct....since never is there another Cyclonus shown - and usually it's Scourge and three Sweeps shown.

 

I personally always equated:

Thundercracker - Scourge

Skywarp - Cyclonus

3 Sweeps - Insecticons

 

The Insecticons were shown many times in G1 to clone themselves, the Sweeps' numbers seem to flucate alot. Even if the Sweeps cant clone....then are easily blown apart and reassembled. Case in point - In the movie, at least one Sweep is lit on fire and blows up by the Dinobots during the escape from Autobot City, apparently the Sweeps are easily healed like the Insecticons could. Plus the two seeker guys were always shown with alot of personality and some intelligence....the Insecticons were pretty primitive - the same applies to the fact that Scourge/Cyclonus were leaders while the Sweeps didnt have much smarts/personality.

 

And the 'Armada' thing - I dont think the line by Unicron is refering to another character. "and his armada" means Cyclonus' control over the other ships (Scourge and the Sweeps).

Skywarp becomes Cyclonus-PERIOD!!!

 

The Sweeps are NOT the Insecticons themselves. THey are seen in Five Faces of Darkness FIGHTING for energon. Some Insecticon CLONES become the Sweeps.

After seeing the scene a couple of times in slow mo, I still cant't really tell what happens. Two cyclonusses are built. but after this you see one Cyclonus and four sweeps entering the ship. Of the four sweeps one is of course Scourge.

theres only ones scourge. the other is kinda like a drone... like the sweeps... so Scourge, the cyclonus drone guy thing, and the sweeps all together are Cyclonus's "Armada(wave of ships)"

Pause it instead. Before the colors are stripped away to gray, you see Thundercracker, Kickback, and Shrapnel go in one direction and Skywarp and Bombshell go the other way. Then they are reformatted. Due to loyalty AND colorscheme, Skywarp becomes Cyclonus. Scourge was Thundercracker. INSECTICON CLONES become the Sweeps. The REAL Insecticons are seen later and are also seen in Five Faces of Darkness.

Plus Sharpnel was shown later in the movie. But that could or most likely is an error, as the film wasn't animated in the order it was shown.

True, but like I keep saying all three Insecticons are shown fighting for Energon cubes. Its Shrapnel thats most notably seen. With the movie, like you said it wasn't animated in the order shown.

Because he is a RESPECTED Decepticon, and him becoming Scourge meant they needed to pay homage to a Decepticon of his calibur.
