Actually, I'm not an artist, I just write funny books. @loll@

In all honesty, one of my goals this year is to be published. I have a friend who writes for Stan Winston that I grew up with and he's always telling me it's my fault that I got him into the industry.

Well, this year, I'm wanting to enter the field and write some funny books as well. I don't have the desire to "show him up," rather, I just have a story to tell that re-introduces a character I've loved since the late 70's early 80's. :D

I did actually re-design his costume as well but, alas, I'm not much of an artist....so.....it ain't that great. hehehee

Ack! This is what their web site says:

Freelancing in Comics

Like many creative fields, breaking into the comic book business as an artist can be an exciting, but challenging process. It takes proper training, making the right contacts, learning to sell your talents, building a strong portfolio and at times, lots of patience. However, time and time again, the best advice we can offer aspiring artists is usually the easiest place to start: Come to a Comics CONVENTION.

Comic Book Conventions happen year round, all across the United States, as well as overseas. They provide a unique opportunity for publishing companies, such as DC Comics, to meet and exchange ideas with comic book readers, distributors, professional artists and writers, retailers and anyone curious about the industry. Conventions also offer, in one place, the best resources for aspiring talent to explore a career in comics.

For most comic book artists, the convention is an ideal forum for meeting working professionals and publishers in the same location. It®s also a great place to get feedback on your portfolio, attend informative lectures, speak to editors, purchase books about getting into the business, and ask lots of questions. The only catch is being realistic about the process — not everyone is ready to work in comics. However, with the right investment in the process, your convention experience will undoubtedly provide an exciting look at the many possibilities of working in the industry

Check out our Comic Convention section to find out which locations DC Comics will be attending in the coming year.

Guess I'll have to wait til July to submit. Oh well, at least this'll give me time to polish it up and what not. ;)

A few years back DC closed the door , for all intents and purposes, on unsolicited amateur submissions.

This means that unless you have a professional history, or prior work experience with DC or another publisher, then they don't want you.

One thing their web-site entry doesn't mention is you need a entertainment lawyer or savvy agent to approach DC.

I'm not making this up--a colleague of mine is working for DC and got in just before the "door" closed and tells me that either of those two are necessary before they'll even talk to you.

The reason for this is due to creator rights and intellectual property issues that DC and Warner Bros are very much concerned with these days. Marvel does much the same thing too, but with some key distinctions--they openly solicited for talent and announce disclaimers that their legal reps beleive offer protection. DC takes a more by-the-book interpretation and thus demands the artists have legal reps themselves.

Probably the same.

My advice would be to either publish a book yourself, or go to some publisher like Image. I think most if not all of the Image stuff is creator owned, so, you never know.

Then you could go for Dc.
