My Thoughts On Vvv

Well Im not to impressed. Dr. Mindbender is the best of the bunch. It is a nice figure and gives him a better look than the orginal one. I guess I would have to say I like the color scheme on this Heavy Duty over the wave 8 version but do we really need another one this soon??? Snake-Eyes is decent but not as good as the last one and again do we really need it??? In fact If Hasbro is going to insist on doing this Action Feature crud they should have done it on the Snake-Eyes figure and made the Storm Shadow a o-ring version. Stormshadow blows. The arm is way loose and he has no hole on the back to hold his sword. I will say the design of this figure is better than the last one but still no where near as cool looking as the Devil Due version. Hi-Tech looks like a Dreadnok to me not a GIJoe and the Viper is ok but when I look at it A Viper is not what comes to mind. The Alley Viper is pretty nice, probably the second best figure in this wave. The Scoripion is ok as well, I actually like the Scorpion Backpack and Scarlett would be ok if they actually gave her a decent crossbow. The headsculpt is much nicer looking on this one than the last. I didnt get the Duke and Cobra Commander so I can't really comment on it but overall I think this wave was a step backwards, not forwards for the most part.

My only gripe with them is that the paint peels off too easily. When I opened my Mindbender, his head looked like someone had scuffed blackmarks on it with thier shoes. I really like them all, but like JayC, didn't buy Duke/CC. The stored the Scarlett with my other figures that I have two of. I only took out her crossbow because it didn't have the Sound Attack tab on it. I also didn't open SS/SE. I think the versions I already use are better.

 

What exactly are those things the Joes wear on thier wrists? I know what they're fore, but do they have a name? They really don't stay on well, but look sort of cool. I use them as communicators. Also, Hi-Tech's knife looks really cool in there.

 

The Venom Striker is by FAR the coolest thing from this wave. It looks beautiful and the CLAWS looks even better. They should make a 2 pack of just Crimson CLAWS'.

 

The comic also gave me something to look forward too. When exactly does the Night Adder come out? That looks freaking sweet.

RazorClaw- Hardcore figure, i like it alot!

 

Heavy duty- just a repaint, but much better than the wvae 8 one

 

Scarlett- i prefer this one over the first jvc one, i love

her sword, because she is snake eyes GF snake eyes trained her to become a ninja, thats why she has a sword , she is always around snake eyes.

 

Sand Scorpion- really cool figure, but will be a single figure in my book

 

Snake Eyes- WOW!< i love this figure i like it better than the previous jvc version, i like this one much more just because it sticks the the 88 version which was my favorite rah one

 

Storm Shadow- Pretty damn cool, but that AA

 

Butt Plug Duke- WELL, he is actually much much better than i expected, if your gonna buy the pack for black CC, its worth it

 

Black CC- Really cool repaint, but doesnt top the blue wave 8 version

 

Alley Viper- really cool mold, i like it alot

 

Viper- HOLY BANANAS!!!, THIS FIGURE ROCKS!!!, i am at least getting 10 of him, i like him alot, probably better than mindbender!

 

Ace- WOW! best joe mold yet i say. i love the head mold and his tigerhawk its great!

I forgot about Razor Claw. He is decent but the blades wont stay in the back postion to well so its kinda a pain. With the Viper its a decent figure but to me shouldnt be called a Viper. I also think Scorpion doent really look like and army figure but more like a single character. I saw Ace today and ther is no way that could be considered the best looking Joe figure. I like this wave, granted the figure we were waiting for weren't done, but the one's we did get (Razor Claw, Sand Scorpion, Alley Viper, and Viper) were excellent. The Scarlet we got was good but I would love to have it like the RAH color scheme, but that would be asking to much. I love the SE due to it looking like the v2 of him. The Tigershark and Ace figure is Awesome. All in all I really like this wave #US1#

i think he is awesome jay!, but we all have our opinions, you should pick him up eventually and check him out, its not that he has a small head, its all the heavy fire suits he has to wear when he goes flying

Thats ok, like I said its not that I dont like the figure it just look to me what a Cobra Viper should look like. For Ace I will probably eventually pick it up and it looked ok, actually better than the orginal RAH one which I was never a big fan of but just doesnt look like the Best mold to date.

I agree with NC....all of these figs rock in my opinon....the only one out of place IMO is SS....we still need and RAH paint job w/ or-ring.

Ditto dude. I agree totally with everything you said. I think Hi-Tech would be perfect with better colors. I just really like his sculpt.

 

Now as for the cool Snake-Eyes, will we see a black one too, ala the Wave 3 variations?

Mindbender- Best Cobra of wave 9. Best overall fig of wave 9.

 

High Tech- Cool character concept. Cool little battle platform. Chest too big for someone who doesn't get alotta field time.

 

Heavy Duty- Better color sceme then wave 8.

 

Razor Claw- Great sculpt. Awesome paint apps. Only gripe are the loose claws.

 

Sand Scorpion- Great sculpt. Awesome little robo scorpion accesory. Good paint but I think grey instead of brown woulda been a little cooler.

 

Scarlett- Best Joe figure of the wave. The colors are weird but work. Awesome sculpt. Her head looks great, and her body looks like a human woman; not some micro waisted bimbo.

 

SE- Great look. Gotta love the his classic commando version look as opposed to the ninja look.

 

SS- Looks good, too bad the AA ruined his waist and arm ruined playability. Those were more damaging then the T crotch in my opinion

 

Ace- Most original head scuplts i've seen in awhile. Great fig. Vehicle is totaly worth the ten bucks.

 

Claws- hands are really big. rest of fig good. Vehicle also cool.

Well since everyone else is doing theire thoughts I might as well chime in. Im only going to review AlleyViper/Viper, HeavyDuty/RazorClaw, and Scarlett/SandScorpion, since those were the only ones I got.

 

Alley VIper: Kick ass figure....I don't care what anyone says. There are a few problems though. One, and this is with all joe figures ever released so it doesnt irk me to much, is the detail. While sculpted with a ton of detail, not enough stuff is painted in. This guy has grenades, throwing stars and a whole bunch of other crap that should be painted in to bring out the detail of this magnificent figure. I also think the blue shouldnt be shiny but a duller blue, like the 1st Jvc Alley Viper. Other problems include the no neck syndrome and loose elbows, but the overall sculpt makes up for it. Alot of people thing he should have a mask and think there are pegs on his sides for a mask....well everyone is wrong. Those pegs are really just curves in the helmet sculpt. Someone in the V3 set looks like they are supposed to have a helmet but I'll get to that later. Overall a good figure and a good buy. Cant wait for the repaint.

 

Viper: What can I say...Hasbro actually did ok on this one. When I first saw it I thought, geez what else can they do to mess up this figure. But after seeing it in person, I take all the negative back. The figure itself looks to be a good combo of all the good from the previous incarnations of the Vipers. There are a few problems though. Of course its the paint detail, but Im a stickler for that. A really crappy figure can be made to look good if all the sculpted detail would be painted in. Imagine if a great figure had all its detail painted in. Thats the Viper....plain and simple. Another problem I have, and I have said this time and time again. Hasbro needs to get QC on the figure matching the actually picture. On the Viper the purple shoulder pad thingies are black on the card art. If they were black on the toy it would have mad it look alot more menacing, but now its just looks so so. I mean really who has ever heard of purple shoulder pads on a uniform? All Im saying is, have the card art match the toy. Another thing that bothers me is the last minute Cobra symbols they put on the figures. I hate that so much cause it just looks out of place. I say mold in the symbol, or actually design the stamp to be put in when you design the figure, and just dont place it as a last minute thing. Now something that caught my attention on this figure. There are two holes in either side of his helmet that look like a mask or something was supposed to flip up was supposed to be there. Hmm I'm wondering did Hasbro plan on this and scrap it at the last minute? Either way a solid figure and if Hasbro is smart they will release this figure in the classic dark red/dark blue colors, the purple/black colors, and the green/gray colors that we have seen in the RAH and JvC incarnations. Oh and on a last note, check the filecard, they did justice describing the Vipers on this one.

 

Sand Scorpion: Another figure I thought was going to be crap based of the 12inch one I saw. Boy was I wrong. I cant find that much wrong with this figure. The file card does a great job in explaining these guys and what made them. If this is what is to be expected from the venom side of V3 then I can say I'm very pleased. I can see what JayC says about this being just one figure. After reading the mini comic I can see why he would say that. Me thinks they should have all the venom victims be single characters, instead of armies. I think it would have a much more profound impact for some reason. Anyway I digress... Hasbro get hats off for this figure. My only problem is of course detail, and sloppy paint on certain peices. I have a swipe of black on a small piece of the Cobra symbol that just looks wrong. All in all this figures does rock. I think they should have given him a different head though. Oh and for some reason I icant see the scarey looking Sand Vipers becoming these guys. Maybe the other way around though? I just think Hasbro needs to chosse names better. Oh and before I forget...good job on the robot Scorpion too. Good way to include the animal theme and hopefully Hasbro doesnt drop the ball on this venom thing.

 

RazorClaw: Pretty much the same as JayC here. Just wish the blades were reversed so they could stay on better. Excellent figure none the less. Detail needs to be better and maybe the paint needs to be toned down. Good way to intro the Wolverine of the Joe world though. I would have liked to see his face though..maybe with yellow eyes or something...just wanted to see the animal aspect of him.

 

HeavyDuty: A repaint...a better repaint none the less. Wish they would keep the skin tone the same color though. That always bothers me when they change a figues hair or skin tone. Also wish they would have used the head from the Tcrotch one, so as to discern him from Roadblock. They also changed the filecard again, which is much better. Still dont like the entire cousin aspect of Roadblock though...why do we all have to be related?

 

Scarlett: Sigh...I really hate this figure. I was telling NightCreeper that she has child bearing hips and is ready for some underage sexual matters....perhaps with RKelly. She looks so young in this. I don't care what you all say the JvC v1 Scarlett looked very good. I always saw her a slightly taller woman. This one just looks stupid. I think if they had different hips I wouldnt be so mad, but they don't and thats what kills the figure. I wouldnt mind seeing this in a black repaint though. ..then maybe it would be cool. Good accesories though. By the way did I say I hate this figure?

I agree with Night Creeper. The Tigerhawk is indeed very cool. Very small, but very cool. I consider it to be an amphibious jet like the SHARC. I love Ace too, but I hope the issue him in a pack with more paint detail.

I have to disagree with you here NC, the Tigerhawk is alright but not the best. The barrel-roll feature is nice but annoying as hell. It keeps rolling when you dont want it to. They should have had some type of locking feature so it would roll when you want it to roll. Also this thing needs some wheels. I would hate to see this boyo landing/taking of on the Flagg and I'd hate to be the greenshirt having to clean it and Ace up off the deck when it does. The dropping bomb/missile feature is nice but the tab should be on the plane itself and not the bombs/missiles. Lastly, they do Ace injustice by putting him in this small plane. This plane is more a bomber and not a fighter like Ace is usually in. It should have come with a new pilot, or maybe Dogfight. Still its pretty good, can it be better yes, could it be worse....oh hell yeah. Hasbro is stepping in the right direction, but they are stepping way to slow.

I found VvV at my local Wally World today (as well as 3 Tele Viper packs at my local TRU - aka all the Teles within a 10 mile radius of my house) and I noticed something I definitely didn't before...these figures have an almost cartoony feel to them. The faces on Scarlett, Mindbender, everyone...they just look like you'd expect to see them on an old school Filmation cartoon.

 

Nevertheless, I sprung for an Ace/Tigerhawk today, which is definitely the best of VvV so far. I'll prolly be picking up most of the rest of the 2 packs, since I want the Mindbender, Scarlett, Razorclaw and Sand Scorpion despite any faults they might have. I kind of want the Storm Shadow too, if only to use his head on my Storm Shadow v2 to see if that would look good.

 

I don't know about anyone else, but I do NOT think the bright crimson red looks good on the CLAWS with his cycle.

I'm going to have to agree with NC on the Tigerhawk. I absolutly love the thing. I wasn't looking forward to it at all and it blew me away. Ace rocks too! I hope we get a green more detailed version in a 2 pack with a red repainted Wild Weasel. The version that comes with the Night Adder.
