Why Is Cobra Mountain So Hated?

Have any of you guys actually seen this thing in the stores yet & held the box in your hands? It showed up at the TRU in Cape Girardeau, MO & I can tell you 2 things about it (even though I didn't buy it since I've been trying to not get started on yet another collection):

1. There's only a small part of the SW Geonosis Arena playset used, the floor/doorway section is the only part of the Arena that is used in the Cobra Mountain set. Period.

2. This thing is massive! It weighs a frickin' ton, probably more than the Arena. If it would ever pop up on clearance (say on Amazon like the G.I. Joe HQ is right now) I might actually consider getting it. I just don't have the money for it with the other various things I've got on my "to buy" list (tons of DVDs coming up in the next 2 months, for starters).

It may not be the Terrordrome, but it looks like a damn fine playset.

i actually will probably eventually buy it, when i have some extra money to spare. i got other toys higher on my list right now. i recognize it's not great, but i don't find it so bad either. and i would like to have a cobra base, or even something resembling one, even if it's basically just the entrance. doesn't mean i wouldn't rather have a terrordrome, but i don't want to incorporate a toy, new or used, that's nearly 20 years old into my current collection. so, until they re-release the terrordrome, cobra mountain'll hold me over.

Yeah, and the only part that was from the SW set still has battle droids in the floor.

i think mainly becouse it wasn't brand new and just isn't what we think cobra would have for a base. They are a huge orginazition and would have better than having cc having to have a throne above the front door.

I held it in my hands at my local TRU and just could not bring myself to do it. It looks like a tonka toy, more like excavation at Cobra mountain. It should come with a crane and a dumptruck. To bulky and not enough playable sections, it's like one peice. I want playsets to be able to have multiple things going on at once.

The anticipation leading up to ANY kind of a Cobra base playset, was pretty intense, and I think that this Cobra Mountain thing was just a little bit of a letdown.

I'm not a big fan on the choice of Hasbro using OTHER toylines like Johnny Quest or Star Wars to make "new" vehicles or playsets for the Joes, as just a cheap way to get anything out there. I don't expect to get a Terrordrome again, or anything as magnificant as such, but this funky lookin' poor excuse of a "mountain" fortress, isn't much of an inspiration of better things to come.

It just looks like a blob of wrinkled plastic, with funny holes and hinges on it that don't appear to do anything. I just hope the "kids" find it interesting and cool enough, because that's the bottomline, and if it keeps the line alive, then we can hope for some better choices in playsets down the road.

Will I ever buy it..? If the price is low enough, I think I can see me grabbing one eventually, due to the fact that I mess around with the dio stuff a lot, and this isn't totally without it's interesting points, but for right now, I'm going to pass.

I don't hate the mountain, I just don't like it. Maybe if it comes down in price I'll buy one, maybe. I'm running out of room and need to be picky of what big things I get. I want the new MCC, and that's going to take up some place. Also have to make room for the Flagg, and make a better area for the Terror Drome. I've seen several of the mountains at the local TRU and have passed on it. Did anyone notice that for the price, it didn't give many battle points? The Grizzly had more points and was cheaper.

The reason I don't like the thing is just because it looks stupid IMO...looks very halfassed. A lot of you guys said that there was "no Imagination" put into it. I would have to agree with that...I really don't think I'll be getting it. I'm gonna put the money into the mobile command center when that comes out.....plus I already have a terrordrome....so why would I want the mountain when i have one of the greatest playsets ever made @smoke@

Why??

Because it looks cheap and thrown-together.

An after thought.

Its as if Hasbro wasn't ready or willing to take a risk on a all new item of that size.

From a business standpoint its understandable, from a consumer standpoint its almost unforgivable.

I have no problem with the re-use of the Star Wars playset as the base for this--I do feel that this set should have had more items to it--more accessories, perhaps even another figure.

At the very least the stone work on it sould have had a paint-wipe/wash.

If I find the set, I'll buy (any Joe stuff here is hard to find) and doctor it up myself.
