Here is a quote from the Sarge

"This decision may not be the most popular one with some folks, but we decided that it was indeed for the best. Wanna call us elitist? Go on...but at least we'll be free of the poison that is spreading."

I guess anyone who doesnt post there is a poison. What a jerk.

I realize that I would be pulling my hair out if I couldn't get in still and that without being able to view the forums one might not understand what's going on. Because of this I'm going to repost what SgtSavage had to say therE. I've left out all the personal stuff because it's not really relavent.

***CREDIT SGTSAVAGE FROM SAVAGE SOUNDOFFS!***

"Checking many of the 558 users that we had registered, many of them, as it turned out, had never, ever posted here. I can assume that some of them were Tin Platoon or Tin Platoon Jr. Spy Troops, some of them had only posted once in 6 months, blah blah blah. So, about 400 names were deleted. Just this morning, I had 50 applicants - none of whom I knew and none who have ever posted here before.

Due to the massive amount of problems that we have had in the past with spammers and Spy Troops, things have changed, and I'd like to go into some of those items right now:

1. No lurkers. Period. You post, and post regularly, or your membership is deleted. Most of us are tired of seeing things here get changed around on other sites, news not getting credited to the person who broke it, etc. That stops. From now on, if, say, "poster987" goes to another site and posts something from here without credit, they are gone - terminated membership - and that is that.

2. I cannot stress this enough: If you have a problem on other forums with people, you do not bring it here. If you do, you're out.

3. The 'chat harassment' situation from last week has now been taken care of. Permanantly. If there are more issues, those too will be taken care of.

4. When deleting some member accounts, I was as careful as possible not to delete anyone by accident. If I have done so, and you hear about it, please PM me and let me know who it was so it may be taken care of as soon as possible. For those of you who have had to re-apply, I am really sorry (Pit Viper comes to the top of my head).

5. Take some time to get to know Recondo's Rules of Engagement once again. As those of you who are left have been here for some time are well aware of things there, neither Drew, Todd, or I should see any crap. If I see crap, you're out and that is that. There's 90 other sites to go to, and I personally do not care how long you have been here. I don't want my stress level to go back up.

Now, as far as the admin/moderator situations go, unless it is needed (and I do not see that happening), consider this: There are none. Myself, as well as the rest of the crew, are simply here as fans and friends. The only time that you will see us 'take action' is if we have to do so (moving a post, blah blah, blah).

I want to just be a fan from here on out. And I'd like to be your friend. So don't be afraid to disagree with me if I say that "so-and-so Joe sucks because..."

From this day forth, other than the chance we may have to move OT posts or somesuch (or change board colors), this board is administrated by every single one of you (and at the same time none of us, if you follow me). In that respect, the "Chiefs of Staff" section has been removed, as well. If you really need our assistance, PM us (just please don't start asking about member lists or post counts or any of that).

Also, if you're not interested in knowing spoilers or inside stuff, this may not be the place for you anymore. If EEJ or Straight Edge wants to give a skinny on Wave 45, they are by all means allowed to do it. We're a "closed community" now and aren't forcing anyone to participate, per sé.

This decision may not be the most popular one with some folks, but we decided that it was indeed for the best. Wanna call us elitist? Go on...but at least we'll be free of the poison that is spreading.

While I'm not 'back' yet, and I'm not sure when that will be, I just wanted to take some time and express my thanks and give some reasons to some of the changes.

Welcome to the new Savage Soundoffs! "

Hey Pit Viper, welcome to the boards and thanks for posting that.

Hmmm...looks like SgtSavage.net wants to be it's own little crew now,oh well.By the way, what was the personal stuff?I often find out that when people go through some personal issues they usually make some rash and unexpected decisions.

I'm not going to bash Sgt.Savage's site or anything(it was a decent one)but I think it's b.s. that he won't won't let people veiw his site without being a member. It's my opinion that if you can't veiw a message board without being a registard user it's not worth visiting in the first place.

(and I'm not saying that because my account was one of the deleted @smilepunch@ )

Sounds like stress related heart problems! and blaming "babysitting" on a toy related forum, for it.

This is the whopper, right here...

1. No lurkers.

So ALL of the available information about G.I.Joe has originated from his site, and he's tired of not getting credit for it.

and how 'bout this little nugget...

Also, if you're not interested in knowing spoilers or inside stuff, this may not be the place for you anymore. If EEJ or Straight Edge wants to give a skinny on Wave 45, they are by all means allowed to do it. We're a "closed community" now and aren't forcing anyone to participate, per sé.

;) Ohhhh yeah, they're gonna just flood the board with all this "elite" and "inside scoop" info, courtesy of EEJ? So if you're NOT interested in getting all this privileged inside material to preview, above and beyond the OTHER forums...by golly, you better not stay there!

I'm telling ya what, if there's a "poison" spreading in the Joe community, it's coming out of the very pompous type attitudes that this horsecrap just completely exemplifies. Those that desire to be MORE than the 'average" Joe fan, but something more, something bigger, something "BETTER"! <_<

This decision may not be the most popular one with some folks, but we decided that it was indeed for the best. Wanna call us elitist? Go on...but at least we'll be free of the poison that is spreading.

Actually..I want to thank them for CONTAINING it! Keep it quarantined!

I wonder how long it is before a Joe convention ends up in the news for an all out, bust'em up, BRAWL that breaks out amongst the collectors and fans who despise each other for BS like this?

Sad and pathetic state of the hobby ain't it?

So ALL of the available information about G.I.Joe has originated from his site, and he's tired of not getting credit for it.

Actually, I think he's saying that some of the new info on Joe that's on his site first, as in posted there first before anywhere else on the Internet, goes uncredited to his site or the original poster. Also, some websites might be taking that news and just publishing it like it was from them. I don't read many other Joes sites so I don't know what's up on that front (I only read forums, truth betold... ADC, DD and Sarge's once in a while).

I guess everyone has a difference of opinion on how news and pics should be regulated and credited for on the 'Net. I'm one of... "that's just the nature of the Internet". I mean that's how it works and you can't stop it [well, I guess you sorta can with members-only and all @smilepunch@ ].

Not everyone is gonna get credited/thanks/praise for everything he or she does [especially in real life] on the 'Net, 'cuz that's just how the Internet is. This goes for all things that can be seen, read or heard on the 'Net, not just Joe news and pics.

I think when Sarge's site first came up, you had to register to read too. They changed it later on. Maybe it'll change back in the future.

Ok, silly question time.

Why do you guys care?

Or are they just providing a direction for some unexplained angst?

Good question..not silly! :)

It's the arrogance behind some of these types of attitudes, and where moderating, locking and/or deleting of offending opinions isn't ENOUGH already, I guess the next level is an ALL exclusive "members only" club, which seems to be the only way to drown out the unwanted, sometimes negative, feedback against toys and their makers.

It's only what's NEW news, in the forums here today, and like anything else posted, will get some responses and hang around for a few days and fade off into the cold, past news, far down the list.

Also, Sarge is a pretty nice guy. I've talked to him in chat on several occasions and he's funny as hell. I got nothing against him and I don't really know what's been going on there [specifically] that's brought this up since I've had less time for the online Joe fun [if anyone's noticed, I've posted less on every board I used to frequent... if not... @cry@], but I'm sure it'll all blow over.

I'd say but I'm affraid somebody here may say something uncalled for about it and I don't want to be considered responsible for a G.I. JOE Civil War.

I will say however say that it seemed that he let the emotions of his personal life get mixed up with current debates going on in the Joe Community. He was going to leave his own board but I think maybe he realized that he was letting his emotions get the best of him and decided to stay. But that's just my opinion of course. So take it for what it's worth.

Actually, I don't think any of you who are not welcome there anymore should give a damn. That ought to tell you something right there. They don't have any information there that you can't get right here, and I don't think JayC is going to lock any of you out or tell you what to think.

I'm relatively new to the Joe internet community. I joined DD's board when it was announced in Toyfare a few years ago. I did know about YoJoe.com but I never joined a forum. A while into the DD board, I noticed it seemed as if some people knew each other. "How do they know each other," I thought. I found out it was from other boards. Then all this hype about the the guy who was DD's military consultant starting his own board and inviting select people from the DD board to join. I thought this was kinda betraying the very board that made him known to begin with. I decided not to join. DD was enough for me. As time went on, I kept seeing people talk about this "other" board called ADC. "What is ADC," I thought. I checked it out, read some threads and noticed there were a lot of people here that think like me, Tom-1, Cobra Commander, Nasburado, Skarapz, and others. There were some people posting some pretty cool customs here too. I decided to join and everybody here has welcomed me (except I wasn't included in the ADC G.I.Joe war @grumpy@ ).

Not to long after that, it was pointed out to me that my site, Freedom's G.I.Joe Page, and I were meantiond at Savage's board, and the great Savage himself acused me of not being a "real fan," because I criticized Hasbro and DD. I PM'd him and asked him why he felt the need to criticize me. He quickly changed his tune, and THEN invited me to join HIS board. I told him, "No thanks. Why would I want to join his board and discuss the same things there that I can discuss here rationally and not be flamed for criticizing." Since then, I've never had respect for that board, and have remained a faithful member of ADC, now TNI.

So I say to all of you who have been denied access to that other board, join TNI! It's been good to me. It'll be good to you, ...unless you're an @$$. #US1#

I've seen this happen a million times with other wanna-be boards and forums...

They want to think they are some higher up and can have the God given power of who they want to associate with and not associate with and when they see no one cares and stops even trying to check out the forums/boards... They'll want to know what happen...

Not like those forums/boards are anything special... We all get the same information, pictures, etc... So if thats how they want to play their game then let em... They can take their ball and go home...

Here's my problem with this, and no doubt someone will tell me if I'm wrong...

Is there some kind of horrible negative connotation to "lurking?"

I posted 3 or 4 times total to Savage Soundoffs in the last year. For that matter, I don't post a lot anywhere. I do enjoy keeping up with what's going on, but I don't often want to state my opinion if someone else already has.

I realize he may be tired of someone stealing his thunder on breaking news, but just because some people don't post a lot, it doesn't mean they all steal news stories and report them as their own.

I got kicked off his board, that I had been reading for about a year, all because he didn't know who I was when he started deleting members, and he didn't feel the need to find out anything about me. The submission process for becoming a member doesn't ask for any information whatsoever.

If it is a cost issue to have a board with people who want to read but don't post, then charge a fee or ask for donations. I've given money before to another Joe site that had excellent dio-stories that also asked for donations for site upkeep. I just thought it was rash to arbitrarily dump a ton of people off the board without exploring other options or bringing it up in discussion on the board first.

I realize the guy is going through some tough personal issues, and I can't even begin to understand his loss.

I don't really care.. I joined there a long time ago, but never went back.. I joined lots of Joe forums.. but usually never visited more than 3 or 4 times.. so if my account was deleted, oh well.

If I had my own site, I might like to keep only my pals on it too, and delete people I didn't like.. I don't see anything wrong with that..

but like VH, what makes me laugh, and feel sorry for these guys is ...

"if you post news at other sites and don't credit that you got it from here, you are gone"..

how pathetic and sad.. somebody's self worth revolves around people knowing that they were the first to know something.. @loll@

real fans shouldn't care, but be more than happy to spread any news about the toyline we all love.

this reminds me of the Catholic church.. instead of just being happy to share the world of GiJoe.. these people act like popes and want to be worshipped as well.

You know, I never understood how it costs so much to host and maintain a Web site and message board. Joesightings costs what, about as much as a family meal at McDonald's per month to host and operate? The message board was a bit pricey ($199), but it was a one-time thing that really doesn't take up that much server space (it was also pretty stupid of me to pay for it -- there are plenty of *free* message board programs out there that offer just as many features and are relatively bug-free). It confuses me why anyone would want to use EZ board if it costs as much as they say it does (I suppose that's for the ad-free version). Besides, wasn't the board recently supported through donations (I hope none of the donors were given the boot)?

And that's all I have to say about that.

Well, if that is his opinion, I respect it...

After all it is "HIS" site...

Of course, he might need an enema to get all of the "CRAP" out of him.

Honestly, though, I do respect his wish, however the way he had presented it to the Joe community could have been more professionally done.

as others here..... I dont care if Im on there or not. OR if Im on here or DD. Its just plain silly to get upset over a interent forums. Im on there but I mostly read stuff and like someone else said, I only post a comment when really needed. BUT I do post a lot of my own artwork. :)

I dont want people liking me for being the #1 fanboy-lol thats pathetic. I rather be liked for working with DD or Hasbro. and even then no one needs a god complex. @loll@ these are hobbies not a way of life.

I get tired of spammers on any boards. I travel to a TON of comic book boards and I see it everywhere. ALOT of people forget there is a real world out there.

I don't care that I can't go back, I just wanted to know why. I never caused any problems there. I've got better places to go to. I was just curious.
