i started with jvc.

although i got those old comic book 10packs from marvel that they came out with last year so i have a little of the back story.

i really don't understand why people like the old stuff because the new figures look so much cooler than those old ones.

First of all Admiral, did you say you got some Joe comic reprints in some of those Marvel 10-packs?? Wow! I've seen some of those at CVS, but I never saw any Joe comics. Cool. I'll have to check 'em out more closely now, that is if they're still around...

And referring to your question as to why people prefer vintage Joes over GvsC ones; I think it all depends on what you grew up on and what you were exposed to first, although in some cases vintage Joes are better, but I'm not gonna go into that debate all over again. Vintage Joes were more consistent in terms of proportions and just quality in general. With GvsC it seems like there are three or four sculptors working on them. Just look at the Cross Hair vs. C.L.A.W.S. Commander or Dart vs. Dr. Mindbender two-packs to prove my point. Some GvsC figures are awesome, and some are terrible. Bottom line; GvsC is mostly cool, but inconsistent also. But people also tend to overlook the fact that alot of GvsC figures are more detailed than original Joes.

if there was no rah they would be no jvc.

True but were I was going is if Say Hasbro did not come up with the concept Of Joe and Cobra till now and there was never the line in the 80's would there still be an attraction for you?

Well, as I see it, we have two types of people buying it. Those who bought RAH and continued with JvC and those just starting with JvC.

I think most people are already familiar with the whole concept because of RAH (as it was said, without RAH there would be no JvC). Even those just starting with JvC.

I can't speak for those new people. Would they actually be interested with out the 20 years of history?

As for the others, those who bought RAH and moved on to JvC, most of them are adults now. They are not likely to just suddenly start buying toys (except for their kids). So I doubt ANY of them would be willing to buy G.I. Joe as a brand new line today, no matter how good the line may be.

Note: I'm not saying the JvC line is "the best" or anything. Just that even if it were "the best" it would not suddenly start attracting adults to buying it.

Or did you mean if we were all suddenly the 10-13 year olds today as we were back then? I wouldn't mind that!

I think because that is the stuff WE grew up with. I'm 29 (as of today) and grew up getting Joes and Cobras under the Christmas tree and for birthdays.

May I ask, how old are you?

That's the thing... for me, detail isn't everything.

Yeah, I grew up with RAH, and the detailing is good enough for me then, and it still is now. Personally, I'd much rather have cleaner paint jobs.

I don't really know what you mean by details too. Do you mean the physical sculpt? Or the paint detailing... for example, having a grenade sculpted on the chest [or whatever] on the figure and having the body of the grenade one color, and the safety pin a different color (not the best example, but I hope you know what I mean).

But assuming you mean sculpt detail, it's not all that. McFarlane and like-figures have great detailing [or whatever, I don't really know that much about these statues/action figure hybrids all that much]... but it seems a bit much to me.

And besides that, I, personally, don't overlook the wonderous [sculpt] detail people find so great, mostly again, because it doesn't mean all that much to me. And surely I'm not blinded by the rest of the flaws of a figure for the sake of details.

So in closing, 1 positive doesn't balance out 2-3 negatives; not matter how great you think that 1 positive is.
