Beast Wars got me. I never would have thought.

I started watching this Beast Wars thing about a week ago. Some of you Transfans praise it while others hate it. I never really thought it looked appealing, so I fell in the catagory of "ignore it"

 

Hmmm. I just finished episode 10 & I think I like it. What is interesting for me is that I have seen about 37 episodes of Armada (hmm....it's...Transformers I guess...but that is another topic) and so I knew the voices from Armada before Beast Wars. I recalled hearing that Armada got the voices of "Megs and Optimus" back & I recognized them right away.

 

Anyway - back to business. The directing and the voice acting is really good. Very entertaining. It doesn't have the cookie cutter flow and dialogue like Armada does. I think Armada suffered because they did it for Japan and America (and beyond) at the same time & I assume that means the English voice actors didn't get the same freedom (voice it first, animate it later)

 

From the start, I loved Optimus saying "veer left! veer left!" to Rhinox and then he just charges right through the rocks. Optimus just shakes his head and says "Ahh yes... silly me." Things like that make a show for me. (It's the little things in life) The personalities actually seem like personalities. Sure, they are based off average character traits like "aggressor, thinker, idiot, etc..." but they are brought to life well and have side dialogue that has a higher level than your standard "yes/no" conversations you see in some cartoons. (keep it simple for the kids!) ...phewy.

 

Reflecting on other scenes - In fallen comrades (#7) - Dinobot activates the autoweapons and they are right behind Scorponok and Tarantulas. Tarantulas slowly sidesteps after a few moments of the two being motionless and the guns take him out and blow him into the horizon. Scorponok is just left there shivering. (pretty sure those were the guys) That and the scene where Dinobot shot the big rock that fell on Waspinator had me rolling.

 

 

So what do you do when you somewhat like a Transformers series? Well...I guess you buy the toys. No spoilers for me or anything - but apparently there is a blackarachnia from a later series that looks pretty sweet (I think the repaint was for an Arcee convention exclusive). Those look like they are worth getting.

 

Tell me what you like. Right now I only know the characters from these first episodes, plus Tigatron and blackarachnia. Of all of those, which Toys are good? Are any of the toys good? Does anyone have any high res pictures (on a website) out there that I can look at. (Been checking my usual Unicron.com...but there beast wars images aren't that big)

 

Apparently, my Transfandom may increase (since I never really officially took Armada in despite having watched 37 episodes)

I've always seen this as an underrated series. As for the toys,forget the early stuff. Some of it is not worth it. Stick to the Transmetal stuff.

My biggest problem with Beast Wars is that there are those who blew it off just because of the animal forms and never got to enjoy the fantastic series. As the series goes on you'll really love it. Season 2 brings on the Transmetals and Fuzors and ends with Megatron blowing away Optimus Prime's(NOT OPTIMUS PRIMAL) face off and the Maximals need to repair him so that G1 still happens the way it should. I can't wait for the whole series to get released on DVD. #=$

I liked this series a lot and I think it got better as it went along. So CkRtech I think you got a lot to look forward to seeing when you get into the next season. Everything is good up until Beast Machines. I didn't like that as much as Beast Wars.

i loved bw i dont think i would of got into armada or tf's in general without it because if i had to wait 10 years for a new series like rid or armada i would of forgot about tf's completely and i agree werent to many great bw figs till transmetals.

I never watch it til it came to DVD, but I did buy them. However since the DVD I love it. I cant wait til the boxset.

It is an excellent show. That and a TM2 Dinobot figure got me back into collecting TFs.

The characters in the series weren't bad at all. it's the toys that I hated and thought of as cheap.

I coulda swore he said he didnt want any spoilers...anyway I LIKE some of the earlier molds-prime, megatron, dinobot, tigatron, and cheetor are all cool and can be gotten relatively cheap.

I love Beast Wars, and I really like a lot of the earlier toys. If you need to download some of the episodes, my name on Kazaa is danzigsfriend. I have almost all of the season one episodes and a few other assorted episodes from the second and third seasons. The show only gets better, so keep watching it!

Don't hate me but I think the Beast Wars cartoon was better then G1. Don't get me Wrong, G1 is the best but... BW cartoons are just out of this world. :wink:

The Tranasmetal toys are the best, here are the essentails IMO:

-TM2 Megatron Dragon

-Rampage- this figure is over locked but is just like the cartoon and has huge claws like gen 1 scorpoock.

-Optimal Optimus is pretty cool

-Silverbolt

-Backarachnia TM2 version

-Transmetal cheetor /& TM2 version.

- I don't have the manta ray but he looks cool too.

I'm afraid I too am guilty of jumping the gun and not giving Beast Wars a chance. Granted I still think a lot of the toys and names suck, but I do like it a whole lot more than when it first arrived. I think I just didn't accept it because it really took the Transformers I grew up with and loved and made it into something else. Now I really seem to be more open and am starting to enjoy it!

hehe. It's ok - I started to see things being "revealed" and just went ahhhhhhh and ran my eyes past it all. Safe so far!

 

Can't wait to watch more. ...although I am having trouble finding stuff after episode 11. (using the Kazaa route)
