This Week's Haul 7/6 - 7/12

Prowl

Recommended Posts

So far:

TF Armada Galvatron (Why does his voice remind me of a pseudo-japanese infused Mr. Rodgers? Would we want Mr. Rogers with that much firepower? I personally think he was always THISCLOSE to losing it and opening a giant can of whupass on the camera operator and the neighborhood.) I like him, but I wish there was more of a challenge to transform him.

TF Armada Street Action Mini-Con team

TF Armada Cyclonus

TF Armada Hot Shot

Probably going to pick up the Night Attack Mini-Con Team today...which brings me to my current rant about how there are several mini-con teams that are just total repaints of others.......honks me off. (At least with the Powerlinx Optimus and such, you get a different looking box.....)

As for Friday/Payday, methinks the plan will be either Red Alert + Megatron or the regular Optimus Prime.....gotta pay for fall classes soon.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...egory=4696&rd=1 Just got that and I picked up Prowl TRU re-issue.

This kinda auction is why I DONT bid on something beforehand unless I am pretty sure no one else will. you got zero bidders jacking up the price then MYSTERIOUSLY disappearing when the item ends

for example I got the same set

Finally picked up Armada Wheeljack, Hoist, and Airazor at the Branson (!) Wal-Mart... family spends a lot of time there on vacation. (Branson. Not Wal-Mart.) Still seeking the Emergency and Air Military teams, and still haven't seen any Universe stuff...

Quick, random notes on the three:

Wheeljack:

- My first impression was that his joints, while transforming, were way way too loose. When fully transformed, however, it tightens up (although the shoulder joints become a little TOO tight)... [His knees are still too loose when unlocked.]

- Does it hurt the spring mechanism in the toy to manually open: Wheeljack's doors, Blurr's wings, or Hot Shot's claws, without using the Minicon gadget?

- I don't see why Wheeljack's head couldn't be made to turn, or have Powerlinx ports on his arms, but these are very minor complaints.

- I prefer to keep Wind Sheer's wings flat on his back so his arms can rotate forward. (Nice touch, the twin Mini-Con logos on his wings - reminiscent of the G1 Seekers.)

- If OTFCC 2004 uses an Armada design to repaint, I predict it will either be Wheeljack - perhaps slightly remolded to remove the Decepticon logos, fix the gash across the Autobot logo, and painted to resemble, say, Sunstreaker - or Thrust in Dirge's colors. (Or a Minicon team.)

Hoist:

- I can't help but notice the little "thumb" on Hoist's shovel... interesting touch.

- I almost find it more odd that Hoist has a small wheel on his groin than that he has a steam shovel for an arm.

- I am *not* going to miss Smokescreen in the cartoon referring to his crane arm as "Longarm." Longarm is Red Alert's Mini-Con. Smokescreen's crane arm is part of his design. Freudian somehow.

- No, Hoist does not have a gear gimmick to connect the Destruction or Adventure Teams to... I do need to test Refute on Cyclonus, as he looks like he'd make a fairly impressive weapon for him.

- You may have seen the maligned post on tformers.com about Hoist's lever and Mini-Con gimmick... thatsallIhavetosayaboutthat.

Airazor:

- Don't care what anyone says; if I don't have the original Beast Wars Transmetals figures, I enjoy picking up the Armada reduxes.

- Will Hasbro post Airazor's profile on transformers.com? Because I dearly hope the confusion over her alignment (being a Transformer in an Autobot package, with a Decepticon logo molded in her back) is cleared up...

- Yes, I do consider Airazor to be female, if not as overtly feminine as the Beast Machines Blackarachnia... I guess she's (Airazor's) a falcon in beast mode. I'll probably use her "pontoon" mode less than Thrust's spinning wing gimmick, especially since one of the pontoon support bars is very hard to pull out. (I have this problem with one of Rhinox's hind legs, but at least I can use his horn as a tool to get it out.)

- Nightscream is fairly cool, but I almost wish the headlights were painted... Can't wait for Predacon if only to complete the Street Speed Team repaints.

I hear you, Slup; it took weeks of searching and a happy coincidence to get the figures I picked up.

Random thoughts I left out: [EDIT: Plus one more I still left out...]

Wheeljack:

- Odd that his right wrist rotates, but his left wrist doesn't. His lower arms seem to be different molds, not just for the Decepticon logo...

- When you see Wheeljack with his batons, which do you think of? Lee in Enter The Dragon fighting off Han's guards, or "Flight 57, you are cleared for takeoff on runway 2-5-9er, over..."

[- Wheeljack seems to have the same problem as Blurr - back-heavy due to the weight of the roof of the car and wings on his back. Unlike Blurr, of course, his legs bend forward to help balance the weight.]

Hoist:

- I still think white is an odd color for a construction vehicle; then again, Hoist doesn't really resemble any real-world construction vehicle any more than most Armada vehicles resemble real-world vehicles... Cool, though.

- The "SD [74]" painted on his left... arm; well, the text is much too clean to be believable as a stencil, despite the stencil box around it...

- Speaking of OTFCC exclusives, I would not be surprised to see Refute done in G1 Shrapnel's colors.

[- Ever notice the toys that don't have missile weapon gimmicks seem to all be Autobots (not counting, of course, Mini-Cons, role-play toys, or Beast Wars Transmetals repaints): Hoist, Jetfire (more bombs than missiles), Side Swipe, the Supercon Optimus Prime, and possibly Overload (I haven't seen this one up close yet...)]
