Biggest comic book let down

Other than anything done by Liefeld, the biggest let-down for me was the Spawn/Batman crossover. Goes to show that two greats can have a bad day in the biz.

Battlechasers was a letdown.Joe Madureira (or however it's spelled,I'll refer to him as JM) was the hottest artist around this time,fresh from his X-Men run and being dubbed the first American artist to draw the Manga style to the popular attention of the US comic fans.The Cliffhanger series was going to be hot for Image,with Crimson,Danger Girl and Battlechasers,and while Battlechasers started out pretty good and displayed JM's terrific art,the man just got lazy and uninterested in doing it anymore and this really helped lead to the initial crumble of the first Cliffhanger line-up.Whats JM doing now?Apparantly video game designs...that's it...

The DK2 line was very disappointing. I only picked up the first issue and just didn't do much for me. Oh well.

The only Liefeld stuff I really liked was Bloodstrike, Sometimes Supreme. The rest was a major letdown. Too much hype, too many crossovers. Too many Youngblood relaunches that never happen. I like the guy, he just needs to get his books organized in advance before he makes them.

Oh, the series that Dr. Doom got for himself a few years back was just straight terrible!

 

If they can make a decent Black Panther series they ought to be able to do an excellent Doom series.

There was one good part to the series. When Colossus grabs Stark and he yells "Oh, DEAR GOD!!"

 

Yes, one frame in 4 issues = huge letdown.

Transformers, Gen 1, vol 1. (Hey, what didya expect with my username?) Great art, and that was about it. Crappy Crappy Crappy storyline.

 

And anything Leifield touches, inlcuding has run on Cable (esp #75). Is it just me, or did EVERY SINGLE ONE of his Image characters looked like Cable, with the exception of Supreme or whatever his name was. And besides, I didn't like the fact that all of the early Image titles had to rely excessive bloodshed to tell a story.

I stand by my opinion. X-Men is comicdom's answer to N'Sync. they're popular, so they must be great too, huh? Quality isn't a popularity contest. Uncanny hasn't been a good read since the mid 200s. And even in the 1980s, it was by no means the best comic. *cough* Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. Claremont's run was getting old when he left and the run by Scott Lobdell was the very definition of mediocre. The current writer, Chuck Austen is a former writer of porno comics and that shows in his current work. He tells whatever story he wants and just plants random characters into the plot whether they fit or not, just for the shock value of the moment. Screw the ramifications of his actions. Just like his old porno comics, it's all about the money shots.

 

Ultimate X-Men is just a blend of the early Claremont stories and the movie. It takes ZERO CREATIVITY to retell another writer's work.

 

New X-Men is the guiding force of the line and it has bastardized the very notions that made the X-Men special. Charles & Magneto were mutantdom's answers to Martlin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X on the debate of racism. Grant Morrison has poisoned that relationship by turning that debate into the lesser of two shades of grey.

 

I would truly suggest that you buy comics not only outside of the X-Men line, but outside of the big two publishers. If you give that an honest effort I doubt you could ever claim that the X-Men was ever the greatest comic. Expand your reading. Seriously.

Back in the day, I was heavily into Wolverine. This was back when Chris Claremont and Silvestri were putting out X-Men. All of this aside, when I take a look at all the X titles that are available, I wonder if it is too much of a glut or not? I don't like Marvel restarting titles either. What a bunch of horse$hit having another Wolverine title. Hell, I don't even dig the new movie outfit they gave him. It just ain't right. And in fact, I am reading something outside of the big 2, and it's the Tom Strong comics. They are pretty good reads too. That and I also dig Art Adams being on board.

You know, thanks for your opinion but I will stick to mine. I love the X-Men. I am very much enjoying Austens' run. Do I care if he used to write porno comics, no? What does that have to do with X-Men?? Nothing.

For me, Transformers Generation 1 Vol. 1 by DW was a letdown for me. I mean, the artwork was great and I did enjoy the story, but it could have been so much more and I felt like it was a rushed series for the fans and a bit predictable....While I liked it, it wasn't the best story I've read...

First off, why don't you go and re-read the posts. You will find that it wasn't me who said you must be high. The last portion of my post was from a song. Normally when you quote a song you use the slash to indicate the breaking of a line. But, I guess you are so scholarly all you want to do is bash someone who you deem isn't as eloquent a speaker as you are, or who doesn't appreciate your taste in comics.

I gotta side with that other guy on this one. You seriously are missing a lot of good stuff, and X-Men really is rather crap these days compared to what it was/could be again.

No I don't read every title or listen to every sort of music. I know I'm missing out on stuff that could be enjoyable so I try to keep an open mind.

I wasn't so upset by the art as the colorist's work. Computer + Miller = Does Not Work. That, and of course the entire story past the first issue.
