Respect

I just wanted to take a sec to touch upon some comments made in another thread about respect. Now in fact the two people who were having the discussion I believe were basically on the same page but one person had made a comment that the other had to repect them because I said so.

 

I just wanted it to be clear to everyone on this point. What I ask of each board member that decides they want to post here is that they respect the opnions of the other members. Meaning that even if someone has a different opnion than yourself you give them the same courtesy you would expect in return and not attack or try to belittle them for having an opnion that may not be the same as yours. That doen't mean you have to agree with them, just means that you respect the fact that they are entitled to their own opnion.

 

As far as actually respecting another person, that is something I or anyone else can tell you to do. Respect is something that has to be earned by each and every person. I do ask you be curtious and not attack other board members or use foul language or try and belittle them but I don't insist you respect them.

 

In fact on a message board it is even more difficult to determine if someone deserves your respect since you can't really tell who it is you are talking to. Case in point there were a few people on this very board I had gained some respect for, which after learning about recent events that transpired here have discovered I may have been mistaken about.

 

So to sum up what I ask basically is that your respect the fact others may or may not agree with you and respect that they have that right. And I also ask that you give everyone on here the same courtesies you would want given to yourself. Oh and I also ask you keep the language clean.

Very well said, and I agree with you whole heartedly. As one of the people involved in the other thread, I apologize to anyone if my thoughts were not clear in the statement that I made.

 

It was not my intention to say that I do not respect people for their opinion, but to paraphrase what JayC said "Respect is earned, not given". As a soldier I deal with this concept everyday.

 

Chazz, it was not and is not my intention to get into a flame war with you. Because in the end no one wins and it turns out to be a waist of time and energy. So accept this as an apology if I insulted your honor.

okay, i'm confused... this was exactly what i meant when i said you had wanted us to respect each other. i mean, does everybody think that i meant you told everybody to respect me as there lord and master???

if that was thrown at me...well that kinda sucks. i've defended this board and even supported you on things you don't even know about.

As you can see in my post I said I thought you were both on the same page, I just wanted to clarify to all so there was no confusion. As far as you being the one I was disapointed in, unless you have done something you think I would be disapointed in then I would say, no you were not the one that was addresed to.
