ADC Bashed Yet Again

It looks as if ADC is getting bashed yet again by a certain egotistical and elitist Joe forum that preaches tolerance and getting along.

A poster by the name of "Smokebellow" had this to say about ADC:

"I was checking out another, somewhat notorious for it's GvsC bashing, forum for the first time and I was struck by the almost total lack of objectivity.

The thread I read was a "GvsC vs ARAH: Which one is better?" and I get the feeling this a recurring topic over there. To be fair, some of the people who don't like GvsC as much have some valid points. They list reasons such as disproportionate scale limbs and body pieces and quality control issues. But, for the most part their reasons are based upon nostalgia and a hatred for Hasbro.

Here's an example: in order to prove his position that ARAH is far superior to GvsC and that Hasbro tried to screw the loyal collectors he posted pictures of the 1983 Gung-Ho and GvsC Wave 1 Gung Ho side by side for comparison's sake. He says that the original Gung Ho is in perfect proprotion and that the GvsC is a peice of crap imposter being forced on us by a profit hungry company who doesn't listen to it's fans (I'm paraphrasing). Where's this guy been living?

The problem is that this guy--and others--aren't looking at these toys as toys, but as some kind of idealized emotional experience. Those of us from the eighties all tend to look at the original line through rose-colored memory goggles. But let's face it, if the 1983 Gung Ho was a brand new toy (never produced or seen before) and was introduced right now as a new toy, we'd all laugh. With his washed-out teal fatigues, over-sized head and bare chest he looks like something that just stepped out of a Tom of Finland calender. Todays kids probably wouldn't go near that figure-- especially when compared against the decidedly military-looking GvsC Gung Ho. Don't get me wrong, there's a soft place in my nostalgia for the old Gung Ho. I even remember the teal color fondly and was tickled that Hasbro gave a nod to it by using that same shade to color the new Gung Ho's tee shirt. But that's my nostalgia talking.

These folks need to find a real occupation or something. Jeezus! Just because Hasbro has modernized something from your childhood doesn't make them eeeviill. And if they don't give a damn about the collector market then why did O-rings reappear? Why is there a new version of Gung Ho slated? Why has each successive wave become better and better? I've yet to find a company, anywhere or in any industry, that thinks more about it's consumers. And that's just what we are folks, consumers. Just 'cause we buy their products doesn't make us board members. And besides aren't these products, by definition, for kids? Kids today aren't very much like we were. They're growing up quicker. They're more world-wise. And they're not much inclined to by plastic toys over video games. Hasbro's done an excellent job of creating products that appeal to two very different groups of consumers (IMHO) and real fans ought to just be glad the efforts being made.

Another reason stated for not liking GvsC is that the new sculpts lack detail and/or personality. I don't see this. There's just as much, if not more, detail in the new sculpts and each figure (IMO) displays it's own "personality". Look at Crosshair's web gear or Frostbites belt. The problem may be that we've grown to assign certain features on the old figures to their personality. If even one of those features is missing it doesn't seem like the same character.

Rant over."

Chas.

Their great and benevolent dictator had this responce:

"In a great many ways, in my opinion people like that are the exact reason that the "80s Revival" is not taken seriously in the industry itself. They give all of us a bad name."

This coming from the same guy who has insulted me on more than one occasion for my opinions and who just ripped DD a new @$$hole over G.I.Joe #17.

"the absolutely horrid work of one Brandon Badeaux

The art, in a nutshell, sucked big ones

The atrocious art, combined with totally incorrect use of the Japanese language (Hint...if you're going to use a language, find someone who knows it first) really let me down.

at least it beat that horrible first arc of Frontline"

How hipocritical is that? It's OK for him to have opinions but it's not OK for everybody else to have one?

It's attitudes like this that convinced me to join ADC. I can come here and voice my opinion without being attacked and told," If you don't like it, don't buy it!" or "You must be miserable to have opinions like those." In my time reading these boards before I joined and after I joined, I never once saw anybody here bash another forum. Sure, every site has their dumb@$$es, but you don't bash a whole site for that.

The first guy sounded pretty reasonable to me... but then, I'm completely unbiased. *shrugs*

The second guy sounds like he disliked a single comic, and is commenting on how the people here tend to dislike everything. Again, sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Ah well.

I may love JvC more than most people here, but I love ADC just as much - So let me say that guy sucks, because every other GI Joe forum I've been to, (no matter which one) has been full of dull, tight-assed spoil-sports who cry "rabble rabble rabble!" everytime some says they dislike this or think that is better.

I know Doc Evil and a couple others seriously dislike JvC, and that's fine. Let them voice their opinion. If I disagree, I will voice my opinion.I've never felt intimidated to speak my mind, because that's not all this forum is about, unlike all the other lock-happy, edit-at-once boards on the net. I think the concept of discussion is lost on these people who complain about complainers - maybe they desire a Dictatorial Board, instead? "No talking about JvC or RAH in the same thread. So sayeth the Master"

Forget that.

The funniest part is, you know he's talking specifically about Chazz here

All feedback is good feedback, and as long as the feedback maintains a civil tone. This is something people have to realize.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether you agree with it or not. If you don't agree with them, again it is just an opinion, and it is one that does not, and will not affect your enjoyment (or lack of) of Joe.

Seriously, why does anyone care if someone else likes or has a problem with the Joes of today? If you're secure in you opinion, you're good to go.

Why you care so much about what the next guy says (especially on another board, no less) is beyond this poster.

Get over it... yeesh

Keep the drama off the boards.

This @#@ is getting so old, I gotta give it the triple roll:

I think that if you have something to say, say it on the boards. And in this case, ADC. Address the post on the board it originated on.

Sad...

Why do they even care?

It seems to me like those two people have a problem with people having a different opinion from their's, and that's just sad.

These folks need to find a real occupation or something. Jeezus!

LOL. This coming from someone who writes a short story about what someone said on another internet forum.

And it's spelt 'Jesus'. Please stop trying to make the Lord's name 'extreme' by spelling it like a ##$%$#.

Basically there are people here who like JvC and people who dislike it. Both are equally welcome as long as they keep their opinions cival. As to what other boards think, I could care less and I would ask that anyone here not be baited into tring to start some type of board war as some put it. Its pointless and a waste of energy. If someone doesn't like ADC they are more than welcome to express that opnion.
