New revelations after watching ROTJ for the millionth time..

Hey all. I just watched ROTJ Special Edition the other day, and I just noticed a few interesting things that I never paid attention to before:

I had read somewhere (perhaps here or in the SW Insider) about the Rebel Trooper on Endor that seems to surrender right after Han goads the Biker Scout into chasing him around the back of the bunker where he meets a whole squad of rebels, then you can see him putting on the Biker Scout uniform as Han, Leia, Chewie and others walk into the bunker behind them to pose as the Imperial Biker Scout/guard. After 20 years, that was the first time I had ever noticed that! Huh!

I also noticed in the hanger of the Rebel ship where Han and Lando part ways that you can see where the live action set ends and the matte painting begins. Man I never noticed how incredibly noticable it was! Look at the bottom of your screen and pause it on that scene when it completely pans down. You'll see it and shows so clearly.

(Hee hee! This is a good one!) In the scene where Leia gets shot in the arm at the bunker, watch as Han rushes to her aid. You notice he slips in a little grope on Leia's...uh...chest area as he tries to prop her up. (Man I don't know how I caught that one, but I did! )

Finally, at the end when you see Coruscant and everyone's celebrating, if you look closely as the camera pans over the crowd you can see some people overtaking a Stormtrooper and lifting him up over their heads. Maybe that's not a major thing, but I had never noticed it before.

I can't remember if there was anything else, but if I do remember anything, I'll post it later. It was just weird for me to see stuff I had never noticed before in a movie I've seen so many times.

I believe you can see him again when the squad is escorted out of the bunker, look for a biker scout 'unmasked' surrounded by a squad of Imperials (I think that was also one of the options in one of Hasbro's "Fan's Choice" Polls)

I also noticed in the hanger of the Rebel ship where Han and Lando part ways that you can see where the live action set ends and the matte painting begins. that sequence and the 'Rancor Pit' have some the most obvious matte work (imo) why weren't they 'corrected' in the SE?

I laugh everytime I see that now. Wicket also appears to...'hit her pretty close to the mark' (when he first encounters her)

Welcome to the club. I can't tell you how many VCRs and ROTJ tapes I wore out trying to see if Oola pops out of her top.(still not sure)

Actually she does! (I'm ashamed that I know that!  ) You can tell when the scene flashes from her briefly to Jabba hitting the trap-door button on his throne. Oops! It's a very brief, quick shot, but she does pop out. Good grief I'm pathetic!

But ANYWAY...

Another thing I noticed was the line Vader delivers to Luke at the bunker; where he tells Luke, "Obi-Wan once thought as you do." I had heard that line so many times before, but after seeing E2 and what kind of relationship they developed before Anakin turned to the Dark Side, that line just all of a sudden sounded so sad to me, as if Obi-Wan really tried his best to keep Anakin from turning. At some point he must've tried after the change to evil. I really hope Lucas addresses this in E3.

Just about every time I watch the OT I see something that I have never seen before. The same thing goes for E1 and E2.

After watching AOTC, I wanted to see ROTJ again.

With all the times I've seen it, I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed this before...

ROTJ:

Han and Leia are at the bunker on Endor and Leia has just been shot.

As a stormtrooper moves in, Han sees the laser pistol Leia is holding.

Han: "I love you."

Leia: "I know."

what is it about those lines? Oh yeah!

ESB:

just before Han is lowered into the Carbon chamber

Leia: "I love you!"

Han: "I know."

They reversed the diologue, and it only took me 20 years to notice it. :-?

That is pretty cool Bespin refugee, I have watched them over and over and I have never noticed that before.

Hey Bespin Ref.

I always enjoyed that - and it was actually not an original set of lines planned for Empire. Apparently, the scene where Han is lowered into the chamber was shot over and over again. Leia was supposed to say "I love you" and Han was to reply "I love you too" or something of that origin. They shot it so much that eventually Ford just said "I know" in reply to Carrie's line. Lucas loved it and kept it in there.

And of course...there it is in ROTJ.....reversed.

I just finished watching RotJ again to see if the scale of the Rappertunie figure is right (unfortunately it seems to be hugely over scaled) and to see if I was right when I said on another forum that the costume for the hang glider ewok was the same as one of the ewoks that helped steal the AT-ST (which it is) and I noticed a few things.

In the final shot of the Emperors arrival you can see that there are actually six dignitaries. So there is one missing from this picture.

When the Rebels first storm the bunker two troops go behind Han and Leia. An officer comes into the screen and the first rebel knocks him out with the butt of his gun.

There are actually two hang gliders a tan furred one and a black furred one. So both the Complete Galaxy one and the Ultra one are movie accurate.

During the battle right before Chewie steals the AT-ST you see him with two ewoks and they go running off after the AT-ST. But the two ewoks that help him steal it are two completely different ones.

Has anybody noticed the ewok doing the 'robot' dance at the end of ROTJ? (in the 'main' area w/ Han and co., toward the back) ^_^ @lol@

[i'll try to get the exact time from the dvd later ]

Update: Ch 49, about 2:06:40; after the helmet drums, look just to the right of the pilot and Endor soldier. ;)

After watching the OT 3 times i did notice alot of new stuff that never caught my eye,,and the same does go got Ep1 and 2 i keep noticing little hints of things...the one thing i cant understand is why Obi-Wan doesnt remeber C3-P0 and R2 in the ANH, but then i realize that the prequils werent written yet

I don't know . . . Obi-Wan seems to get a sort of funny look on his face when told about the droids. Kind of like he does know them but is pretending he doesn't. Of course maybe I am just seeing things as there is no way Alec Guniess did anything on purpose to suggest that.

What I DID notice (and others have pointed this out before) is in TESB where Chewie strangly has the broken C-3PO in his cell. Why would they give it to him? Later when Boba Fett goes to shoot Chewie after throwing some Stormtroopers down Vader keeps him from doing it. Why? Remember, C-3PO is riding on Chewie's back at this time. After seeing the prequeals it makes you think that Vader still remembers creating C-3PO and doesn't want to see him destroyed. But it's difficult to believe that Lucas had that planned all along.

Also, after they escape Cloud City on the Millenium Falcon, Vader tells his men to get ready to board them and set their guns to stun. Now I suppose he would have wanted them only stunned becasue Luke was aboard but the movie doesn't come across that he KNOWS Luke is on the ship until right after that scene so it is almost kind of confusing.

I'll have to look for that Oola scene now, lol

Other things I think are funny (at least to me) to look for...

ANH:

-After R5-D4 has the 'bad motivator' scene, there's a side view of R2 back at the sandcrawler, with what looks like R5 next to him.

-After the Falcon escapes the Death Star and the Tie Fighter attack, 3Po says: Help! I think I'm melting!', followed by what looks like a shot of R2 in the Death Star control room

ESB:

-I may have (kinda) just spotted R3-T7 (the yellow clear-domed AOTC preview astromech). After Han destroys the probe droid, we follow Gen. Rieekan through the control room; you can see the top of the dome just above one of the boxes.

-When Han is dropped into the cell @ Cloud City, he almost pulls off one of the stormtrooper's helmets

-For those that don't know, the officer that escorts Lando and co. is played by Jeremy (Boba Fett) Bullock ;)

ROTJ:

There's at least one shot of Jabba which plays backwards (watch the smoke)

It's also of note that the scene with 3PO in the wires was actually shot onboard the Blockade runner and is in the novelization that way. Niether scene was shot on board the falcon set.

As far as ROTJ is concerned, this one's my favorite:

(From 'The Easter Egg Archive')

Just after the Super Star Destroyer crashes into the new Death Star, the next shot is of inside Admiral Ackbar's ship, where the crew cheers. As the cheering starts to die down you can hear someone distinctly yell "Die dickheads!"

This was present in the 1997 SE version, I don't yet know if it's been removed from the DVD release. There's a few others mentioned on that site, check 'em out here. And if anyone spots the 'Smiley Face', let me know, it's probably BS but I've never been able to find it.

The best explanation as to why C-3PO and R2 didnt recognize Tatooine when they crashed there or knew Obi-Wan is because at some point they had their memories whiped of those events. As to why Obi-Wan didn't seem to recognize them is cause he was faking, not wanting to give anything away to Luke at the time.

Here is one for u though, why didnt Owen recognize C-3PO? Now u might say he did but didn't want to let Luke know but since he wanted to keep Luke out of the whole galactic struggle I would think that Owen would have simply purchased another droid??? Since 3PO lived on the farm with Owen for some time I find it hard to believe Owen would have forgoten about him, especially since he was built by Anakin.

I think C-3PO had a memory wipe but not R2. That could explain why 3PO always says R2 is speaking nonsense.

I noticed in Return Of The Jedi on Endor at the Bunker after the Rebels are captured and the Ewoks show up. The Rebels start fighting the Emperials and Chewie picks up a Stormtrooper and throws him at another. The part I never noticed is after that Chewie turns around he picks up a Rebel Trooper off the ground and ginda stands him back up.
