Hey VH

VH, I had a question about Model Masters paint. Does it have a glossy look to it? Because I bought some Tamiyas recently and for some odd reason, they were glossy. And it was olive drab, for crying out loud. I'd like to pick up some MMs, but not if it's shiny. I posted this here cuz maybe some of the people who're looking to customize could benefit from our experience with the paints.

And answer the damn PMs I send you, old master

It comes in gloss, semi-gloss, flat & matte, just like the TAMIYA paints if you read the labels! @-@

The Model Master paints are for those mini military figurines & model vehicles, so they have a LARGE assortment of camo type colors and such. Another advantage to MM paints, is that they are acrylic..# 1, and that you can buy the clear coat acryl in FLAT or even in GLOSS in you desire, so that way if you like the color, but want it in flat...viola'! :D

And answer the damn PMs I send you, old master

I'm sorry...I did read it, but it was a little more serious than a quick reply would be appropriate for, and I've been obsessed with finishing my customs here this week and fighting with my computer, but I'll get back with you asap!

Meanwhile...the answer is YES, I will still correspond with you even after your sex change operation! @-@

AT LEAST I CAN READ THE LABELS, AND NOT ASK THE GOTH-BY-NIGHT STOCKBOY WHAT THIS LINE SAYS!

I gotta get me some Model Masters... If you can, PM me a list of what you like to use best VH. Also, what colors you used on your Recondo's legs/hat/collar. That's a nice color.

Also, draw me a picture of how you did that thing to Wild Bill's hat. For every moment that passes that I wait for that picture... I will kill you.

Model Masters probably has a better selection of colors than anyone else; too bad it's not as durable as acrylics and you have to use clear coats to add durability. Not to mention how enamels won't properly dry to all types of plastic, sometimes leaving a "permanently wet" aspect to whatever you painted.

MM has enamels as well, but the ACRYL brand is what I'm using for my customs. This is what they look like...

I've almost completely got away from using ANY enamels, and for the very reasons you stated above...they don't dry as well, they require clear coats occasionally and I hate using any paint cleaner for the brushes afterwards, like you do with enamels.

When I DO use the enamels, it's for any Chrome, Silver & Gold colors, as I have found these particular colors are too watery in acrylics. Here's the enamel brand from MM paint

"You can find all these selections and many MORE, at your local model & hobby shop...tell 'em DUKE sent ya!"

I've several different brands of the paints I use, which mostly consists of TAMIYA, CITADEL & the MM by Testors all in acrylic.

The colors I've used by MM are...

US army/marines Gulf sand........perfect khaki & what I used for my Recondo

Russian Armor Green

Medium Green

Leather......what I use holsters or leather jackets, but also found to be ideal for darker skin tones like Stalker.

Olive Drab

Flat Black

and several other basic colors, but they do have a large variety of military type colors.

The clear coat (in flat) is what I've used to tone down the gloss colors a bit, and that's the bottle on the right, the enamel is the one on the left.

At the risk of being exterminated, i've decided to just cheat and snap a few shots of the Wild Bill hat, modified for Recondo! 8)

As you can see, it's just a matter of softening up the hat (with a blowdryer) and folding up the side, which I think would have stayed on it's own afterwards, but I added just a dab of super glue anyway.

The only thing i have left to do, is saw off the top of WB's head and glue a repainted, in Olive Drab, Ripper ballcap, onto WB's head!

Whaddya think? :D

Would I need that for the flat & matte colors? I'm looking for a brand that dries like Citadels, sorta flat and drab. I tosses my Tamiyas because they made my Roadblock look like he was wearing a damned leather wife-beater

No! I use the Clear Coat only on colors I've found that I like, but couldn't get in a flat or matte. i also use it to dull the overly shiny look of the enamels I DO use on occasion.

I've been a little disappointed with some of the Citadels, as they seem so THICK and hard to control in certain areas, also i've noticed a few have thickened up to a paste after awhile, and i had to water them down and it degenerated the color a bit. :-? I still like them well enough, but for these few gripes! 8)
