Am I the only one that prefers the original TMNT....

Recommended Posts

Yeah I miss the old turtles too, you're not alone. I like the new cartoon too though, but its not near as fun as the original. Yeah it was corny near the end but still it was cool to watch. "Heros in a halfshell" and "the epic begins" were very cool. Thats what started it all with the cartoon. Now I don't want to get crucified by all the mirage comic fans in here, but thats how I feel :D

The old was will always have a specail place in my heart. It brings back good memories of when i was a kid. But aside from that the original show is pretty corny. The new one is so much cooler. Much more mature and has a more solid story.

I haven't seen the new cartoon, but I definitely prefer the original toy line. There were just some truly awesome figures in it, like HSogun Shoate and Shogun Triceraton. The new figures aren't bad, they're just not fantastic. I'll probably get them all eventually, but so far the only one I've picked up is Shredder.

New cartoon hands down.

New toys, it's looking that way but we've only seen one series so far. the cool toys you are talking about in the old line like Shogun Shoate and Triceraton didn't come out till way later. If you really want to compare them look at the figures they've done so far.

Turtles: new series. Slightly better sculpts, way cooler masks. Other than that, much the same. It's obvious the first line of turtles are an homage to the original Playmates line. Exact same colours and facial expressions.

Splinter: original series: I don't like the new rat. Looks too much like a rat, in the Mirage comics Splinter was always being confused with a dog. I liked that. :)

Foot soldier: new series. I won't even waste my time trying to justify this one.

Shredder: new series? I never owned an old Shredder (never even saw one from memory) but I imagine it was probably too cartoony for my tastes. Although, the old uniform would more closely match the Mirage one. The new guy is a little too shiny.

April: new series. From what I can tell she looks much better in this series. Still nothing like Mirage April, but I never could stand the yellow jumpsuit.

Mousers: new series. No contest, scale is key.

Casey Jones: new series! In the old series he looked like more of a mutant than half the stupid characters tehy came up with!

My two cents.

Chris here...

I have to be honest and say that I haven't seen the new TMNT show yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to be more a fan of the original. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% behind the TMNT relaunch, but I think that the original had a special, captivating type of magic about it. :)

As for the original toyline - well, I have to say that it's probably my very favourite toyline of all time! I certainly own a lot more TMNT toys than anything else. To be honest, when I get them I'll probably just think of this new line of Turtles figures as a continuation of the old - bear in mind that we've already been treated to several different tie-in lines of TMNT toys already, notably the "Movie III" figures that were around in 1993 and the Next Mutation figures that were around later on. :)

Take care... :)

Shredder was actually a cool toy. Never owned him myself, but my friend had him. His pose was way ahead of its time (just think Tri-Klops from the new MOTU line), although he was a little scrawny compared to everyone else.

No kidding about Casey Jones looking like a mutant, I couldn't agree with you more.

As for the debate, I like the original ones, up until they started 'throwing' storylines together (if you could call it that). I think the only show I liked during the Dimension X saga was the hour or 2 hour tv movie that featured that awesome construction rat character and . . . I think, maybe a robot? That was pretty well done, and from there the show went down hill, and I stopped watching them religiously. If I did catch it, I'd even go, 'Hey, this is still on?' Sad, really.

As for the new show, I've only seen half of the first one and half of the latest, and from what I can tell from those meager 30 minutes, it looks like its going to have a starting run that might mirror the first series. Or it could get to show number seven and Shredder'll find himself in Dimension X whining ceaselessly to a headless brain named Krang.
