GI JOE issue #11

I love the new artist. Kevin Sharpe is good, real good. He has a nice clean and crisp style reminiscent of the greatest Joe artist Rod Whigham. Everyone in the book is easily reconnizeable. The layout of the book is easy to look at. And the most important thing is that the characters finally don't stand around in these awkward super ##$%$#ed poses, and their faces aren't emanciated or just plain ugly. I for one thank you Mr Sharpe for that.

One of the letters in the book says he is dad to see Kurth go. Ha I know I'm not. He is the worst Joe artist yet. I hope he never gets his hand on anything to do with GI JOE.

Blaylock's story was pretty good. It was entertaining and fun. The final page definatley leaves me with wanting more, now! If his work continues on this level then he can consider me a fan from now on.

Bring on issue 12!

What do you guys think? Agree or disagree?

If Kurth was the guy who did the art for Gi Joe 1-4 then I wholeheartedly agree with you...I'm glad that guy is gone. I haven't picked up a single issue since number 4...that guy's art was absolutely horrible. I was thinking how the hell can the comic make a strong come-back with such crappy art?! The Transformers comic is the complete opposite; truly awesome. I'll have to have look at #11...

Outsiders, why must you insist on playing devil's advocate? Kurth sucked, and what I would say is the majority of us appreciate Sharpe a great deal more.

Outsiders, I'm not upset with you... just dissapointed. @-@

If Kurth sucked that bad then he wouldn't be doing any comics at all... I didn't mind his drawings and I would have loved to done what he has done. The man has worked on an actual comic and I tried for years to do that and never got the chance but he has and I gotta respect that...

Look at Rob Liefeld... Now that guy sucked at drawing comics... He couldn't draw legs or feet so he used the McFarlane technic and covered everything with huge capes...

I deffinatly think issue 11 was excellent. The only real problem I'm having or have had with any of the Devil's Due stuff is sometimes the story seems rushed and to much thrown in for it to slam to a halt and slap a 'See you in 30' button on it. But hey, I guess thats the point so I'll buy it next month. Sneaky SOBs.. The new art is wonderful, although I didn't mind Kurth except for sometimes being hard to distinguish some of the people.

As for Liefeld.. I can look over his art. But he might have been the down fall of one of my fav comics Deadpool. A guy creates a character over a decade ago and does very little with him. Others bring him up and then all of the sudden he wants the rights back. Bah! Sorry, end rant.

Yea but at least Liefield could draw faces pretty good. Kurth can't. I went back and read over the first story arc and I remembered how ##$%$#ed his character stances were and how ugly he made some of their faces. Look in the first issue and see how ugly he made Scarlett look in that lil pic that had Snakes, GH, Quick Kick and Gung Ho, and her in it. She looked awful, just awful. Hawk, Duke and Flint look so rough, with their sunken in eyes. And the twins look like skeletons with skins hanging on them. I don't care if they are supposed to look older, damn people that athletic will generally age much better than people who aren't . Oh and going back to the faces, what is up with his necks, all the characters have thier faces/heads sticking way out in front of their necks, like they're dodging an imaginary bullet or something?? I don't know he needs to take an anatomy class or something.

As far as respecting the man because he got in the field, well did he ever break into the comic field with Marvel? DC? How about Dark Horse? No he got his break in the biz by having a friend who happened to luck out and get the GI JOE rights, plain and simple. If my friend started a comic company he would give me the chance to draw a comic. I hopefully plan to draw a comic strip for my schools paper once I transfer? Anyone can get in if you start your own company. Why don't you submit work to Devils Due? You never know, they are looking!!! If you want to respect anyone it should be Liefiled, he started out with Marvel, no less, when there were so many othere hot artists out, like Todd Mc Farlane and Jim Lee. Plus he created some very long standing chracters like Cable and Deadpool, and he took a old title and created a new one out of it, New Mutants into X-Force. So give credit to where credits due.

I guess what it boils down to is this if you say Liefield sucks fine, but you can't say something to us because alot of us think Kurth sucks more than any other artist who has ever drawn GI JOE. He is the worst Joe artist ever, period. And I hope he nevers draws anything with the GI JOE name on it.

I could careless where an artist starts... Just cause someone doesn't start at a major comic book company means that they can't draw. I didn't mind Kurth artwork and I'm just saying if you don't like his stuff then that's your opinion but I wouldn't say he sucks...

I never once said Liefeld sucks... I said he doesn't draw legs or feet good and uses big capes. Most of the stuff I have seen from Liefeld was boring and maybe lasted a few issues and only because other artists kept the issues going... I respect Liefeld cause he gave it a shot and his stuff did sell and Kurth gave it a shot and the Joe issues did sell.

Umm I think that qualifies as saying he sucks at drawing.

But anyways I, along with several others, think Kurth sucks at drawing. You think that Liefield sucks. Those are both our respective opinions, and that's all there is to it. Nothing but our opinions. So I think that is the end of that subject. I won't try to make you agree that Kurth sucks, and you can't tell us that we don't think he sucks. Agreed? Good.

Now as far a Kurth working on an actual comic, sure he did, but it was because his friend, who is an even worse artist than he is, had just gotten the rights to the Joe mythos. Liefield had to prove himself against veteran artists at Marvel and against his fellow young hot shotsToddy Mac and Jimmy Lee. True he can't draw feet to save his life, but them lil feet and his scratches/artistic licenses all over his drawings made him infamous.

But anyways, we agree to disagree. @-@ See ya.

Sorry, but I've gotta agree that Liefeld is horrible. While I like characters like Cable & Deadpool (one of my favorite characters overall) that he helped create, all he draws is super-muscled characters. And guns the size of small planets. Us SW fans may think that Hammerhead's gun in the 90s was huge (right LJ?) :D , but that's just peanuts to some of what Cable hauled around when Liefeld drew him.

BTW, nice to see your still floating around Lady Jaye. Have you popped into GalacticHunter yet?

Nope. But the fact that they can't draw pretty much means that they can't draw. Only seven years passed and everyone looked FIFTEEN years older. Poor Bazooka fared even worse. And Roadblock and Gung-Ho were pretty much the same image save for outfit and skin color.

Sure Liefeld gave it a shot, but so did the Spice Girls, and both were successful for a short while. But novelty was pretty much what they were cruising on, and that only lasts so long.

Just because it SELLS, it doesn't mean it's good. Look at the sales for Britney Spears stuff and then actually LISTEN to it. About the ONLY thing the current book has going for itself is nostalgia. That's it.

Okay, I realize that I'm an insane Dusty fanatic, but does anyone else find it slightly odd that Dusty, who was the youngest member of the Joe team, suddenly looks like he's 40 in this new comic?! :x

Or that could be just me...

How about the cover? It was in my opinion the best part of the book. I love Benitez. I hope he does something in Frontline sometime. I'd love to see an entire ish by him.

Oh, and did anyone else notice Lady Jaye wearing her old outfit early in the story then the new one later? Typical girl changing her clothes all the time. @-@
