The up-coming 3 3/4" 'Recondo' figure...

Recondo

Recommended Posts

Art for this figure can be seen in the file cards section at GIJoe.com

You guys draw your own conclusions from the art. SOME think that the art is only for the 12" Recondo (yet the picture is slightly different from the picture used for the 12" Recondo out in stores now, no vest, etc) & NOT necessarily for the actual 3 3/4" figure that will be coming out in a few months.

In all honesty, I HOPE they're right!

But if they are not, PLEASE send Hasbro an e-mail about how badly they're about to make Recondo look (IF you don't like the art that is). You don't even have to be much of a Recondo fan. If you're simply a RAH GI Joe fan (in general), it only takes one look at the art to make you cringe (Recondo is shown with NO bush hat, NO mustache, NO "green" in his uni, DESERT tan, & with a metal hat & chest plates, etc). Ask yourself, does THAT look ANYTHING like the Recondo we all know? How about ANYTHING like a "jungle trooper"?

lol.. actually it looks like DD's CLUTCH! (clean shaven.. lol)

What can we do about it? Who knows! But its worth a try. Send Hasbro an e-mail using THIS address:

Hasbro@custhelp.com

LET them know how Recondo should look. I brought up the fact that Recondo's 'stache & bush-hat are as important to the 'Recondo character" as Destro's silver mask is to Destro.. or a beret is to Flint or Stalker. I also brought up the fact that IF this sculpt is already in production, then perhaps a solution would be to SWITCH the name & call the figure "Clutch"! I mean.. why not? The art looks VERY much like the DD Clutch & is certainly a LOT closer to "Clutch" that Recondo. If they did this.. then they could come back in another wave or 2 with a much better sculpt for Recondo.. lol.. we can wait, as long as its decent!

If you're a GI Joe fan who cares about the look of the new sculpts.. you'll take 3 minutes to send Hasbro a nice, professional, yet constructive (criticism) e-mail. Thanks guys.. Yo Joe!

I *DO* have a problem with his filecard making him whip an enitre battalion of Iron Grenadiers like kids at Cathy Lee's factory.

LOL! - That's morbid...but funny.

Geez, that picture looks even more crappy than most GvC designs. How on Earth is that supposed to be Recondo???

He does look lik the dd comic version of Clutch. I guess they forgot what Recondo looks like.

And did you read Dart's filecard, poor guy, he's nothing but a cheap Spirit knockoff.

Piping in with two comments here:

#1: The packaging for a toy is always designed and printed *before* the figure goes into production. That stuff would be getting worked on right now for a Jan release. If this art *is* for the 3 3/4" figure (which I believe it is), there's really no chance of changing it now, unless Hasbro's already had the idea to do so.

#2: Dart is as much a knock-off of Spirit and Nunchuk is of Quick Kick.

IE: Not at all.

Nunchuk is a pre-established character redesigned to fit the need of a Quick Kick-like character for the new line, because Quick Kick is dead.

Dart is a brand new character designed to fit the need of a Spirit-like character for the new line, because the Spirit trademark is unavailable to Hasbro.

Yep -- from the neck down, Dart is identical to the concept art for the proposed Spirit figure. His head may have come from an alternate Spirit design (I'm not positive about this -- the original version had long hair with a headband). Like SE said, trademark issues prevented the figure from being Spirit.

You're right Recondo...that filecard pic IS nasty (for a proposed Recondo figure that is) :x

G.I.Joes are undoubtedly getting away from the original lines blend of "modern day" army soldiers, that have that somewhat WWII-ish retro appearance. The uniforms and styles of them were mixed between futuristic and good ol' leather bomber jackets. Recondo looked like a classic jungle trooper from that era as well, and is what made him ultra COOL in my book.

It's apparently turning NOW, more towards the concept of "2010 G.I.Joe and Cobra..a Space Odyssey".

Familar names the copyrights haven't been lost to, is all we seem to be getting for the future JvC characters. Recondo looked a bit seasoned and older than the normal Joes, even back in ' 84 (I thought) like a leftover from my "Adventure Team" Joes I had as a kid in the 70's...which added MORE cool to this favorite figure (for me).

As always, I can't help feeling a little "kicked to the curb" for being "OLD" :-?

I can only hope the actually figure, differs greatly, from the filecard artwork, which isn't exactly a stretch, seeing how MOST OF'EM DO.

Oh crap just iron-knife if need be, we would know he was spirit!! Great idea doc evil. Hopefully the iron grenadiers will look like the old kind.

That recondo is horrible,... I'm slowly turning into a naysayer on this line. Then again,... We don't know yet,... things could happen.

Well, there is always hope.

Take the new Snake Eyes for example. He went from gray to black in a heartbeat, so last minute changes can happen.

And remember, we're basing this on the filecard art - which is notoriously inaccurate in the JvC line. Frostbite, CLAWS, and even Scarlett just barely resemble the toys. Hopefully things change in time...

Looking over those filecards further, I've come to the decision that the artwork for Wild Bill looks more like what i think a Recondo "jungle trooper" should look like, and the artwork for Recondo, should just be changed to a Clutch figure, or even a Repeater. This based on the looks of the characters per artist's interpretation.

Listen, it still doesn't hurt to e-mail Hasbro guys.. even if you think or *know* that there is no hope for change. Take 3 minutes & do it.. please.

(Hasbro@custhelp.com)

Also.. for those that don't mind any of the changes.. ok, fine. But then I want you to look at the art & ask yourself this, does the art for this figure look ANYTHING like a "jungle trooper"??? If nothing else, please write to Hasbro & comment on THAT aspect.

I mean heck.. we get an arctic trooper who is wearing WHITE.. we get a desert trooper who is wearing TAN & BROWN.. we get an underwater specialist who is wearing a WET suit.. so why do we get a JUNGLE trooper who looks like a tarmac mechanic on some desert airfield?

Terrible.. a crime in fact.

Dart IS a Spirit knock off. How could you say he is not? His filecard describes him with the exact characteristics of Spirit. Yes, I understand he is Not Spirit, but he is just like him, hence the term knock-off, as in a cheap immitation.

And the new Nunchuk is also a knock off of Quick Kick. He has almost the same outfit on that the old Quick Kick did and he looks nothing like the original Nunchuk figure. Just because he has a different name, doesn't mean they didn't want him to resemble Quick Kick.

So in closing, both Nunchuk and Dart ARE knock-offs.
