An NMX Review - Wave 2 Scarlett and Zartan

Well the webcam is back... Not working at 100% so I'll have to get a new one sooner or later, but at least I've got something to work with for the time being. Anywho... On with the reviews. For those who missed my Funskool Dreadnok set of reviews, shame on you. Now we move onto a couple of wave 2 2-packs that I ordered from The Store on 44. (GREAT service by the way... I was truly and pleasantly surprised.)

Wave 2 Scarlett and Zartan...

This was the other wave 2 2-pack I ordered, and thankfully, nothing fell apart when I took this one out of the package. I was actually quite impressed by this particular buy.

Scarlett just rocks and is all sorts of spiffy. By far this is the best rendition Hasbro's ever done of the character. Is she a bit bulky? Yeah, a bit, but the mold actually does look quite feminine and works very well as an update to a favorite character. The only pain in the ass is that her trademark crossbow came with a sound-tech chip attached to it. (You'll notice in the pictures that I've done some alterations... Next up is a tutorial on how to do it yourself. Quite easy.)

Zartan is cool too. The only pain in the ass of it is the color scheme Hasbro chose to run with, but the upcoming Zartan repaint will fix this problem and will look much better, trust me. The figure itself though is good, with nice detail, and a decent updated look for another favorite character. If you can't wait for the upcoming repaint, just buy this one and repaint it yourself. The figure is good enough to make the effort.

Overall... Scarlett gets a 9 out of 10 and Zartan gets a 7 out of 10. Buy these figures.

Next: The liberation of the sound-tech weapons.

Cheers.

Those bulky shoulders make her look mannish and the ponytail sticks straight out.

Can Zartan wear his original backpack or hold his original pistol? if not Ill just give him Storm SHadow's v2 compound bow like he used in the comic once in a while.

I try to use spare weapons that once belonged to earlier verions of the characters if none of the reissued gear are theirs. Sort of like giving 1.5 Headman his gold rifle, 2001Cobra Commander has the silver refil pistol from the accesory pack, Convention Paratropper / Night Rhino driver Dusty gets the gear from the 2000 Dusty, w1 Duke gets the rifle from 2001 Leatherneck (Which originally came with a 90's version of Duke) and w1 Gung-Ho gets the original version's grenade launcher (Though his brown backpack from the refill set refuses to stay on)

As for the pants, perhaps you can swap legs and hood with the upcoming Zartan repaint packed with the Stalker Repaint. I think that might look a little better

I saw these figures today in person for the first time. And they are terrible, 2 of the worst Gijoes ever. These 2 figures are the second worst versions of each of these characters. With the 2 worst versions being the ninja force version of each respectively. Scarlett looks so ridiculous, like a teenage boy or something. And Zartan, well..... he just sucks.

  • 4 months later...

Great review NMX!!! that is sooo wild because ive had my Scarlett/zartan 2 pack on my wall for months and just opened it like 2 days ago.

I was very impressed with scarlett. my only complaints:

-pony tail sticks strait out

-cant put backpack on [to mash down said ponytail

-a mite bulky in the shoulders

but actually i was surpriised at how feminine she DID turn out to be! Pretty hot actually, and very pretty in the face...well prettier than i first thot anyway. so its a very cool figure.

now about zartan: hes a great figure , but mine has that funky waist deal [ just like my CC that came with black snake eyes] that makes him twist and therefore wont really stand right. he will stand at least, but jjust not well, and its aggravating the way he twists. anyone know what im talking about? it this becuase of the oring or what?

very impressed with the 2 pack tho, as i am with the reveiw there NMX. hope to see more soon!

After all of these months, and 3 more Waves of GvsC figs released, the Scarlett/Zartan 2-pack still sucks.

oh wait, didn't they tell you? It doesn't suck as bad anymore.

YEP!!

Of all the 2-packs I've seen at TRU, they include the following figs:

All of Wave 4 minus Shipwreck/BAT . . . I guess that one's selling well enough . . .

Wave 2 Scarlett/Zartan

Wave 3 Beach Head/Mindbender

Is is just me, or does Hasbro seem to be desperately trying to get rid of a lot of overstock?? (Value packs, Beach Head vehicle pack-in, Mission Disc packs, etc.)

o hell yeah there trying to get rid of that stuff! just like with the star wars stuff. ..overstock is inevitable i guess.

someone else said that they did see the shipwreck/bat pack in there...in fact they asekd if they could switch it around and put them together! smart idea!!!
