Aren't they done filming both sequels to LOTR.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

How is everybody? Didn't the director finish filming the LOTR 2 and 3, but still have to do some editing here and there? I throught I heard somewhere that they finish filming both the sequels, I don't know if this is true but if they did then why are they releasing the sequels in two years time wether then months.

Have a pleasant day,

Peace

One word: MONEY.

1. Every movie needs a healthy run in the cinema's.

2. The anticipation for the next movie makes the movie-goer see the current movie twice (or even more times).

3. Overkill; if they released 3 parts in one year, the normal movie-goer woulden't know what hit him and the movie would get lost.

Well it also takes TIME to do the effects.

That is a large part of what they are doing. Yes, the "filming" is done but the movies aren't.

On the MTV movie awards lord of the rings won an award and it showed them VIA satellite... the director said they were in the process of filming a scene for the next movie... all of the actors were in costume as well so they are not completly done.

If they had released them months apart, the films would not have been as successful.

Think about it, FOTR was released 29 weeks ago, and it is still in the TOP 30 at the box office. In a couple more weeks, it will surpass The Lion King as the #9 highest grossing film.

they finished all the movies but just want to wait to put all the films in december 2001, 2002, 2003, because they want to make more money that way.

HEY DARTH!!! LOL

Anyway guys they made lotr to make money. you wont make as much money if you flood the market with 3 movies and all that merchandice in one year. Spread it out over 3 and you make more money.

Also, the post production work wasn't done all at once. Now PJ is still working on post JUST for TTT.

Actually there was an interview discussing the different ways LOTR is releasing it's movies vs the Matrix since the Matrix is releasing it's movies 6 months within each other.

New Line was discussing how they needed the 1 year difference not just for SFX and touch up shots and etc etc but that it sllows 1 year of merchandise and etc DVD releases and theatrical run times.

LOTR lasted a LONG time in th theatres and if TTT last that long and they wanted to release ROTK within 6 months of TTT tjhey would have NO time for DVD sales and the DVD's would most likely have to wait until after all 3 movies are out and fans would kill.

Think of all the time it would take away from the Special Edition work too :)
