Disney and Lucasfilm today have officially announced the Han Solo Anthology film. Directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (The Lego Movie) and screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. Head to the official site for details and look for Han Solo Anthology in theatre May 25, 2018.

The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel

Ugh...YOUNG han solo adventures. I guess this seals the fate of Harrison Ford as Indy as well. Now we wait and see which casts Chris Pratt first.

Young or old, it will still suck. Right?

How does this have any bearing on Indiana Jones?

Maybe Pratt can play BOTH! Ford did,,,

Hold on to your hat, man. Disney also is planning a movie about how a YOUNG Boba Fett became the meanest, baddest bounty hunter ever and another about how a YOUNG ensign Ackbark became the most respected general in the fleet ("His superior officers told him he'd never amount to anything.....He's out to prove them WRONG!")

Well, even with huge problems, I did enjoy Crystal Skull more than Last Crusade. Modern movies... guess its the amount of suck. Mediocre is good enough for most audiences(Jurassic World), but as I have mentioned before, we should accept no less than "Fury Road"

I'm just assuming that its official there are no qualms about recasting Solo, there will be even less of a question when we finally get to Indy. Or maybe it will all peter out before then? seems like an awful lot of counting chickens before... well... you know. They sure do have a lot of faith in "haventhadahitsincetheearly90s" Kasdan to lead fresh blood to victory

Woah! That is a bold statement that I am actually surprised to hear. Shilo Buff over Sean Connery???

With this genre of movie, you just have to accept that recasting as inevitable. Kirk and Spock were recast, James Bond was recast, every superhero will (eventually) be recast... Producers want to keep telling stories with proven characters and no character or no actor is so sacred that they won't recast if it means they don't have to come up with something new and different.

Up until this point I tought I was the only person who enjoyed Crystal Skull, did it have problems? yeah sure but it was still enjoyable, I do hate Shia Lebuff with a strength of a thousand exploding suns, he was really annoying in the movie but so was Short Round and I still love Temple of Doom. I liked the idea of an older Indy realizing he was getting too old to pull some of the stuff he used to do. Harrison Ford still had the roguish charm, while coming across as an intellectual persona that I come to love about Indy heck the whole movie could be Ford talking about the mythology/history of an city/artifact and I would eat it up. Sean Connery was great in TLC but that movie still had Lucasisms present one of the most offensive was taking Marcus Brody a scholar who had as much knowledge and eloquence as Indy and turning him into a bumbling idiot who got lost in his own museum(sigh). They had General Veers as the traitor/villain which was cool but the rest of the cast was pretty forgetable and the action sequences were not as memorable as the rest of the trilogy. In Crystal Skull I liked the sort of cold war/russian paranoia ambience, Indy giving the disaproving look to Mutt which was the same look his father gave him a in the Nazi motorcycle chase was a nice touch. As for the aliens/extra dimensional beings at the end, I view them the same way I view the Iron Man 3 Mandarin twist was it disappointing? yes was it a deal breaker? no. I wouldn't mind if they bring in some new blood as a successor as long as Harrison Ford is in the movie to pass the torch and it's done in a tasteful way.

I'm beginning to think that Pratt could play the slightly older Mutt Williams. That way he could still be considered "Indiana Jones" as in Henry Jones III. And yes, I also enjoyed KOTCS, although I didn't like the sterile video-game feel of some of the CGI sequences. And there were times that the actors' costumes looked as if they stepped right out of their respective trailers and walked onto the set in brand-new clothes. Next time pay attention to Ford's pants in the scene where the Russians are forcing him to help them break into the Area 51 warehouse...they look like they're right off the store rack when Indy was supposedly stuffed into an old dusty, dirty car for who knows how many hours, and this is after he was abducted from a dig site. I guess they didn't always look like they inhabited their roles like in the other movies, where there were the tell-tale signs of wear-and-tear over time throughout the course of the film, complete with blood, sweat, rips, dirt, and grime. But anyway...despite the little things, I still enjoyed KOTCS, aliens and all, but I digress...

I just can't see anyone but Ford as Solo. It's gonna hurt my brain to see another actor portraying that character.

I wish Lucas wouldn't have sold to Disney.

Crystal Skull is my Highlander 2......I just wish in the next movie Indy wakes from an coma & see's someone other than "The Que...umm Beef" standing there saying "Dad, (just like how Indy used to say Dad to Sean Connery) your alive!"...& then it explains that Indy actually was in a private hospital after going down in a plane crash on a golf course.....they find him w/some mysterious treasures that seem otherworldly.....okay Spielberg you can send me my royalty check or store credit for BBTS anytime now......

Yeah it's going to be difficult seeing anyone else in this roll. I would have rather them done a 1 shot stand alone Boba Fett movie.

I tell you one thing...Little Opie Cunningham must have really wanted to direct that movie...I'm surprised to see him tackle this kind of genre....Ron's name is gold so I'm really crossing my fingers that this movie will be awesome & not the destruction of a beloved childhood character.....

Honestly, I couldn't be happier about this development...I've always enjoyed Ron Howard's films; he can do comedy, action, and drama all equally well in my book, and that's the perfect combination for a movie about Han Solo, if you ask me.

Not me. Willow, Batteries Not Included, Apollo 13, if those credentials don't scream "Star Wars Director" I don't know what does.

The way I figure it, one of two things is happening (probably a little of both): Behind the scenes the Solo movie is a complete FUBAR and they needed a director of the highest caliber to sort it out. OR... The mouse-house knows they're playing with fire rewriting arguably the second most popular/important character in Star Wars right after killing the poor @#$% off in the last picture so they called in a director with probably the greatest name-recognition factor in motion picture history to help alleviate the audiences fears.

Either way, I wish 'em good luck. This ain't Star Trek. Star Wars fans are a mean bunch. They decide you messed the movie up, they'll tear you apart. Heck, even if you DON'T screw it up, they may just rip you a new one anyway.

Agreed. Now let's see if this movie will even get off the ground. I'm hoping for the best still.

I'm actually not really interested in this movie, it may be the first Star Wars movie I don't see in the theater. I like Han Solo and all but nothing I have seen related so far has garnered my interest I don't know if it's the actors or the idea of a young Han Solo that doesn't appeal to me. People seem to be looking forward to it and I hope it's good and people enjoy it but I don't share the enthusiasm.

I have been fine with Disney's handling of the franchise thus far. I liked The Force Awakens, probably liked Rogue One even more, looking forward to The Last Jedi.

Then there's Han Solo movie. I love Ron Howard as much as the next guy, but even though he is one of my most beloved SW characters and childhood hero, I have no real desire to see "young Han Solo". Now I hear an acting coach has been hired to work with whoever the kid is playing the TITLE CHARACTER. Ummmmm.....I don't push the panic button when I hear "reshoots" (seems to happen all the time with these geek movies), or even when they traded up for directors. But an acting coach???? Was this kid screened? Did he audition?

I agree, I have been hearing a lot of "reshoots" news lately in movies and we have gotten good movies despite of it but the coaching actor thing sounds worrisome. I'm not a cinema expert so maybe it's not a big deal but let's face it this movie will live or die on the portrayal of Han Solo, telling his story and how he came to be is the main pull of this movie. For you to need a coach for the main actor so late in the game raises a lot of questions: Can this kid nail the roguish charm? Can he be charismatic enough to carry a movie as a lead? Will he succumb to the pressure of portraying and doing justice to such an iconic character? Me personally I hadn't even heard of this guy until he was cast for this movie so I don't know how talented he is. I read that Steven Spielberg gave him a seal of approval after they met a bar mitzvah or something, don't know how if that's true.
