Let me tell whats going to happen on this discussion. Alot of people are going to complain about Mattel DCUC quality control, customer service, Digital River and character selection. If you do that, its fine.

However, I did want to let DCUC fans know that the DCIE Subscription is only at 36%. The subscription needs to hit Tier 1 in order to pass. The time period to sign up ends next Monday at midnight Pacific Time.

The figures revealed for the 2014 subscription include Aquaman with hookarm, Superboy in Black T Shirt, and Ice. If the Sub hits Tier 1 we get Doomsday in a suit, if the Sub gets Tier 2 we get Doomsday unleashed.

The figures revealed for the remainder of 2013 include Ocean Master, Ra's Al Ghul, Fire, Huntress, and Batzarro.

Complaints about Mattel are plentiful and justified. However, things are looking better. Character Selection for 2014 is looking better which means if you sub and get a figure you dont want, it should be easier to unload it. They are offering a bundle option which should help with the cost of shipping. Mattel has opened up the sign up period for longer that is normally does. In 2013, they opened up a mid year sign up period for those that missed out the first time.

Im not going to address the theory about the meter being a marketing ploy. Im going to address the issue of Digital River and Quality Control. If you are going to pay 20.00 for an action figure, it should be pretty damn good. However, there are the occasional QC issues. I recently sent back a Marvel Jr. Figure for a return. The process was painless. I didnt even have to pay for return shipping and the new figure is on the way.

In regards to character selection, I personally was not thrilled with Constantine, Uncle Sam, and Wally. Nor was I thrilled that Larfreeze was missing some articulation. However, I did buy a sub for 2012 and then 2013 in hopes that character selection would get better. I think that it has. Again the revealed figures for 2013 and 2014 are Fire, Huntress, Ra's Al Ghul, Ocean Master, Batzarro, Aquaman, Superboy, Ice and possibly Doomsday.

If the sub fails, Aquaman, Superboy, and Ice will be available as day of sale figures next year at higher prices. Other DCUC type figure MAYBE offered later on in the year but also at higher prices. However, this is not definate. If you want more DCUC style figures at a reasonable price (cheaper than day of sale) then run over to Matty and pic up a subsciption.

Im not a lacky or an apologist for Mattel, the sub model is dumb. However, its the only way to get these figures at the moment. I dont what to see DCUC go the way of Ghostbusters, Voltron, DCIC, or JLU. If you feel the way I do, pic up a sub.

I got one because doomsday is a must for me and so is aquaman. Since marvel legends is as good as dead for 2014 i can affort a dc sub. Somehow i do believe though that dc has a second chance at retail and if i had to choose than motuc would get my money. Its getting expensive and the cake isnt big enough for so much.

Im with u man. I got the sub cuz im really liking the selection and want both doomddays as well as my second chance at getting a modern superboy. But you can't change the minds of people who have some much hate for matty and the brand manager. No amount of reason will change the minds of those that believe that matty is out to destroy your hobby. Lately lots of hate on forums makes me want to stay away, I mean we always negative issues but but as of late thats all I see.

Considering what you have to invest to get him he should be in a better bodysculpt.

This goes so far beyond the Doomsday figure. If you want to subscribe, fine. But Mattel says that's not good enough. You gotta sign up to a certain tier or you don't get your figure. But that's not good enough either. Mattel doesn't want you getting your DCUC style figures anywhere else, so they cancel DCUC, Young Justice, Batman Legacy, and even their pitiful little Unlimited lines. Now all we have is the promise of a Fischer Price looking line come Spring. But I gotta wonder, if that one takes off, will Mattel pull it to? There are already rumors that the new 3.75" line is replacing Movie Masters.

As for hating the sub? Not even close. If Mattel actually fixed, or at least addressed, some of the issues plaguing the sub as opposed to just dangling new figures in front of my face, I'd be the first to sign up.

Other than Christopher Nolan's version, I dont think I've seen Ra's in anything but green...the complaint I hear most is that he is missing his grey streeks (sp?) in his hair.

Ive heard they have cracked down on this and its harder to get them before day of sale. If the sub fails you can get him at day of sale for a higher price. Or if the sub does go through, you might be able to pick him up from someone who bought multiple subs but even they are going to sell him at a higher rate.

Personaly, I feel like they are fixing some of the issues: Better selection, bundling to keep shipping cost down, Mid year sign up, longer sign up periods, and Ive had pleasent exchanges with Digital River.

As for the meter, yeah its dumb, so is having to get the sub to make to get Doomsday. But I think its their way of trying to get more people to sign up. It would be great if there was another way for them to offer the figures, but the sub is what we have to work with right now. Retail didnt work because they charged too much. Someday, if the sub really takes off or if demand increases maybe it will return to retail, but even ML is changing format so maybe its just the way things are right now.

I know. It'll be an uphill battle.

Basically what you said was toys are harder to get if you don't sub up. Which is what makes modern day collecting such joy for guys like me who won't pay for what they don't need. But it is what it is. I'll be fine either way #US1#

I take it you never watched the Batman Animated series with Kevin Conroy? Or Young Justice?

I'll have to go along with that. I mean its not a bad figure, just not that great. Ra's needs to be imposing, regal. I get that they were stuck with the suit body, but the least they could've done is render it in darker shades. Something a bit more Wall Street and a little less Jimmy Olsen.

Still, I'll hit Amazon for it.

I agree. I'd like to see Bouncing Boy or Bouncing Lad, whatever his name is.

Even leaving out the figures from the big box set back in the day, at one figure a month, do you have any idea how long it would take to do the Legion justice? That's the sort of thing you'd need a dedicated subscription for, like they tried with Watchmen.

I personally feel like DCUC could go on for a very long time similar to Barbie and Hotwheels. But their has to be a demand for them. The only way to create the demand is for more people to sign up for the sub. I think if Mattel put more elbow grease into advertising then they could create more demand. I work at a group home part time, I always take my collection of DC animated movies out there for the boys to watch and they love them. They've even seen my massive action figure collection and they are blown away by it. So the interest is out there. I just dont think Mattel is doing a good job of catering to it. I dont know if their isnt interest on their part or if DC/Warner Brothers is the hold up. I just know its not happening.
