Transfomers More then meets the Mouse...

Gosh, if there ever was a rumor I didn't want to be true. It is this one just in via MTV Geek that Disney and Hasbro are in talks about an acquisition. With the pocket-book open and Star Wars in the cart, it seem the Mouse is looking for more cheese in Hasbro's library of brands including Transformers, My Little Pony, GI Joe, Battleship, Nerf, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, and literally 100s of toys and games kids have grown up with for decades.

"From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time"

Obviously, the large cache of Popular Culture properties would add to Disney's library to make a true Tour De Force in the entertainment industry. Its also not hard to imagine Hasbro's is in a position to want to be acquired either. With retail sales revenues flagging and the the slow uptake for The Hub, this could save the day and keep the channel afloat, or at least one can hope. Traditionally, acquisitions get rolled up into the parent company and it may be fans will have to watch their favorite Toy's shows on the Disney Channel if this goes down.

On the toys side, it might be good for fans and collectors to have the brand under a bigger umbrella with a greater reach. Disney has deep pockets that could make for more stable product roll-outs and hopefully more modest pricing. With Hasbro struggling to appease Wall Street, they have raised prices over 50% in the last 5 years alone and are still bleeding money.

Only time will tell what's going to happen. PLEASE, Share your comments on the possible event and what it would mean to you.

I can't see this being a bad thing at all.

On the TF side of things, you can be sure the movies will go a step above Bay-quality under the Disney roof.

As for GI Joe, between Hasbro and Paramount, no property in 2012 has been mishandled as badly. Can't see things like the movie postponement fiasco happening with Disney.

If it does go through,I don't see The Hub lasting. Everything can be shifted to Disney Channel,Disney XD,Disney Jr. and ABC Family.

I don't believe that it will happen cause if you look most of the Princess DOLLS and Toy Story and even Mickey Mouse club house the figures are all done by Mattel so I can't see that happen Having Disney running a comp. that counter part of the other. I can see Disney buying Mattel but not Hasbro.
