It's kind of amazing how dramatically different a figure can look simply by repainting a few elements of it. Take Guardian for example, possibly the most visually boring of all the DCUC figures so far. I wanted the version that didn't make it to production, and hopefully these pics illustrate why it would have been the better choice. In the prototype pics shown from sdcc, the variant Guardian was to come with a more pointed shield. But after looking at some comics for reference, the rounded shield was actually more accurate to me.

I decided it was just as suitable to post this in DC as customs since this is just a repaint and more of a discussion of DCUC they should have made and not a heavy modification or completely new custom figure per se. But Hopefully, if Mattel rereleases Guardian as a World's Greatest figure, they will choose this more modern costume.

You may be able to tell from the photo that the yelow paint I used doesn't quite match up perfectly to the shade of yellow that Mattel used. But I wanted to use a can of automotive paint that I had. It's not cheap, at about seven dollars a can, but the results are a paint job just as "factory" looking as a production figure. I masked off the surrounding areas with a combination of soft paper, tape and paintable latex. And once that paint is on there, it's on there and ain't coming off for the most part. Just don't make the mistake that I made; I was so excited to paint the figure that I forgot that the fact there might not be much space between the shoulder and the shoulder cavity and that it might cause the paint to rub off when the joints are moved. So I wound up with a clumpy mess in some places, and had to try to sand down some of the areas in between the joints. But it still looks ok in person. It doesn't show up well in the pics (and my pictures usually turn out crappy so that doesn't help), but I also added a slight orange wash in the crevises of his collar bone and chest.

I tried to do the Alex Ross thing with some of these pics.

Some other simple fixes that make the figure look suprisingly different (and better imo) are getting rid of that black wash they added to Grundy's face and correcting the gloves and gauntlets on Booster Gold's costume.

Nice! That would've been a better variant than purple Wildcat IMO.

Anyone else think that the modern BOOSTER GOLD figure, if properly painted, would be a perfect PRINCE GAVYN from STAR-MAN?

That's not a bad idea at all. I've seen a Prince Gavyn made from a Captain Atom that looked really nice.

Easy repaints? I turned my Red Tornado into a cross between his YJ and JLU designs.
I also turned Kid Flash with Robin's head into Kid Omni-Man.
Then I did Booster Gold into his costume from "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League," for a friend.
And I'm planning on giving all of my Gotham City Thugs unique masks.
Repaints are fun!
