what issue would that be??

I suppose I'll have to spell it out to you. You have two African-American Actors portraying Caucasian women or the stereotypical valley girl. I'm making a point to the double standard that exists. I'm not personally offended by this movie, because in the end it's entertainment and it's intent is quite clear. I still don't agree with the author of this piece, they are making an issue of social norms as hurtful as they may be from the 1940s/1950s. We are dealing with the present day of rap/hip-hop that has influenced American culture as a whole. Anyone here ever read or watched Aaron McGruder's Boondocks? It makes the twins seem tame/harmless by comparison.

If someone tried to dress up as white chicks in real life it wouldn't work very well. I saw bits and pieces of the movie and they did not look like legit white women. @loll@

Tell that to bond girl Caroline Cossey, the transgender model who made a comeo in "For your eyes only." @smilepunch@ Although she isn't white, she was born a dude:

What part of the movie?

it is a brief comeo where Bond goes to Gonzoles’ villa in Madrid.

When the scumbag gets the point per se. Then some d***head ignores the security warning and nukes the Lotus. In my opinion that wasn't one of Moore's best movies.

Someone mentioned the Boondocks therefore, l must comment.

The Boondocks is a satricial comicstrip and american anime(yes, anime since it is done by a japanese studio and the art style itself is based on anime) made by an African American who tends to make fun of current issues to get a point across; despite the creator being AA, the cartoon and comicstrip have received a lot of critism as well; for instance, Al Sharptin was pissed when he watched an ep of Boondocks where Martin Luther King Junior said the N word. The diction was used because it was to prove a point about the negative stereotypes exploited by the media (BET, Soul Train, etc..)

I digress but comparin Transformers to the Boondocks is like comparin to apples and oranges.

I agree. But I wasn't making a comparison. If I was it was only about the personalities of the characters mentioned being similar to those of some in the Boondocks. You know the thugz and wannabe thugz. Look at Ed and Rummy. Two white characters voiced by black actors who are just as street and use the N word when referring to each other. What I was stating is that you can't say these characters were supposed to be black unless you believe that all of us act that way including yourself. I know I don't. I definitely don't have a gold tooth or a grill. White rapper Paul Wall and some other white kids my daughter knows wear them. Don't get upset over something that is not meant to portray the personas of just one race. As for the faces again most of the robots have those features. I don't have those facial features nor does anyone I know. Do you? I love the Boondocks and have the 2nd season on dvd. I'm also familiar with the comic strip. Go see the movie, think about it afterwards and see what I'm talking about.

See that's easy to say....but a whole nother thinh when some of the worst qualities of your race are thrown up for the WORLD to see by an ignorant person. It kinda slaps all the positive accomplishments down.

Those qualities aren't of your race or anyone else's. They represent a small cross-section of American life that includes white, black, Hispanic, and Asian people.

And it doesn't even begin to slap all the positive accomplishments down. Is Barack Obama's presidency and what he accomplished diminished because of Skids and Mudflap? Do you think he feels worse about himself because of the twin robots in Revenge of the Fallen?

Black people are as diverse as any other race, and there's nothing you can show in a movie that represents the entire race. Only other ignorant people would believe that any one thing they see in a movie would represent an entire race.

By the way, no matter how much passion or insight you show, the free use of stereotypes (to quote you, "Moonshine, Nascar, and trailer parks for all!!!!") undermines everything you're trying to say.

And black people can be racist, though I don't quite understand who or how it benefits to be able to claim they can't be. If you hate another race simply because of their skin color, it doesn't matter if you call it racism or prejudice or apple pie; it's still f***ed up ("A rose by any other name...").

Another friend of mine saw the movie and thought those two "HILLBILLY" (his description) robots were hilarious... If you think that they can't been seen as anything but black then I think you are just a bit too self important. As I said the problem isn't racists because lets be serious, they are realistically few and far between, it's these people that look for racism ANYWHERE they can find it. Get over yourself, not everything is about people trying to pull YOU down.

You know, I had a comment about what is REALLY being argued about here, especially after having seen the movie.

But forget it. The people that are pissed off will NOT be swayed by reality. They just want to complain. That is WHY they are here. 98% of these newbies (and no offense meant towards any of them) will NOT stick around once this thread dies out.

So why bother when no one REALLY cares.

white people of all types (rich, poor, conservative, liberal, raciest, and non raciest), are tired of being "brow beat" with their ancestors checkerd violent past. Many of these white people are tired of being made to feel guilty for a past they had noting to do with.................well almost nothing.

when all races sit around and have a good chuckle at the expence of a minority's delequantcy, it can only do harm in the long run. This harm can be see in the blacks that saw the movie and find nothing wrong with their own race's self distructive behavor be the butt of a joke. it can also be seen by white people who turn a blind eye in favor of the easy way out. I mean after all the whole reason Bay's TFs suck so bad is cause they lack substance and are all fluff and entertainment.

In other words both races are reading this thread and saying......."AWWW MAN!! YOUR MAKING MY HEAD HURT BY GIVING ME ALL THIS STUFF TO THINK ABOUT". Humans are becoming increasingly lax in their own thought process. just as this movie was nothing but "fluff" the same is true about its audiance in regards to this topic.

this problem is not an isolated incident and will not dry up and die. only fully acknowledgeing the issue at hand and working toward a better way of life can we get this ugly part of human development behind us. That means white people of all types are gonna have to deal with an issue that they have been sweeping under the carpet (like in this thread), and take a more active approach to resolving it.

It also means black people of all types (especialy the inner city one who perpatrate this life style) are gonna have to do a much better job of stopping the self distructive behavor that gives idot fools like Bay the ammo to crack these tired ass cliche' jokes that come at the expence of a derailed black populas.

As far as i concserned this is proof that Bay is a crass jerk that fails his audiance............thats it the audiance that does'nt watch Nas car!

SUPREMEQUEEN, I usually mind my own business when it comes to your remarks, but it just bugs the heck out of me that you throw the terms "bigot" and "bigotry" around freely and talk alot about predjudice and injustice, yet there you are negatively referring to a social class of people. I'm assuming you're referring to "rednecks"; in other words, to paraphrase you, the audience that "watch Nascar". That seems a little bigoted and hypocrytical of you; or am I totally wrong?

I was born, grew up, and live in the South. I've had cousins from up-north refer to me as a "hillbilly" all my life. They made me feel like I was always less-intelligent than they were, or that I was a stupid, living-in-poverty, backwater hick that was somehow beneath them. So yeah, I've experienced bigotry first-hand.

Do I wear overalls? Do I have bad teeth? Do I wear John Deer hats and "dip snuff"? Do I go to monster truck rallies, go deer hunting, and "watch Nascar"? No to all of the above. But am I tempted to be offended that someone is negatively referring to the social class of people that I happen to be a member of, implying that anyone who "watches Nascar" is crass and stupid? You betcha, especially when it's coming from someone like you SUPREMEQUEEN, someone that seems to champion equality and justice so readily. I have a problem with that.

Tell me I'm wrong, that you weren't referring to "rednecks", and I'll apologize. But I sure would like for you to explain your remark.

SQ, I'll give credit where credit is due; your most recent post above was very reasonable and thought-provoking. But you never explained your whole "Nascar" comment to me from several posts back. Were you meaning to imply that those that watch Nascar in general were crass and stupid like Michael Bay, or did you mean to imply that "rednecks" and "hillbillies" were crass and stupid, since they are generally associated with watching Nascar?

Devil bat..........ok. 1st I'm sorry I didn't see your rely. I kinda droped out of the debate between pages 3&5. But to answer your question, no! If I wanted to call what YOU are refering to as "red necks" crass or stupid then I would have done so. DB I know that maby you or other members seem to think I make "slick & sneaky" comments that require "reading between the lines" but the truth is I'm a very up front tell it like it is kinda guy. if I want to say something I simply say it.

So that mean if I was calling this group of people stupid then I would have used thoes exact words. My refering to the nasscar audiance was ment to refferance a frame of mind or perhaps a culture that do indeed get a big bang out of...............well BIG BANGS. I had also ment to site the WWE audiance as bing part of that mentality of wanting or craveing nothing more than "BIG BANGS". DB the remark refers to ones personal taste.............NOT INTELLIGENTS. I'm very sure that there are brain surgons out there that get a kick out of Bays movies, WWE, & nasscar. it doesn't mean they are stupid just not that demanding interms of entertainment.

DB now i'd like to ask a question. if you are not in to all the above things you mentioned..................then why were you offended??? this is why the world is in such disaray & termoil. people read & see things & feel the need to work them self up into an emotional huff & feel indignant. if the comment didn't include then why throw your self under my wheels as I plow through subterfuse to get to the heart of the truth?

Okay, gotcha. SUPREMEQUEEN, I wasn't trying to catch you in a "slick and sneaky" act. I promise. I just needed some clarification. Just at face value, it looked as if you might be referring to those that watch Nascar as crass and stupid like you accused Michael Bay of being, as if he were catering to that group of people.

And you're right; since I don't fit the stereotype of being a "redneck" or "hillbilly", I shouldn't find offense. I just wanted to make sure you weren't making any broad generalizations about southerners. I apologize if it seemed like I accused you of something you didn't say. I just wasn't sure about what you did say.

The author nailed it. Everything he said is true.

Bay's excuses are patheteic at best.

Sir,

Let me assure you, when you are sitting in the theater with a 10 year old boy that loves Transformers and surrounded by other kids of all ages. The PATHETIC example of racism, and vulgarity is indeed a REAL issue!

I spent more time after the movie having to re-assure to myself that I addressed all the negative issues that these "heroic" characters represented.

As well doccumented in my past posts elsewhere, I am the MOST anti-Political Correctness person alive. I HATE the racism that I as a white person has to deal with on a daily basis from the very people that scream from freedom from racial hate.

However, that does not mean that I will sit by and allow racism and explicit language ( sorry but the bad guys saying everything from a$$ and Pu$$Y is explicit language in a movie based off of toys marketed to SELL TOYS! ) to be thrust upon my children and my community without being irate.

Do any of you think that Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and their fellow racist followers wont use this type of thing to further their cause?

Do the "hero" autobots depicted here act in a way any WORTHWHILE and MATURE parent wants their children to mimic or find " cool" If so..then my friends, you SHOULD not be a parent in this world!

I understand stereotypes and to be honest the people ( black, white, whatever ) that act in the REAL WORLD as these two pathetic characters act in a movie are the cause for this.....it is their fault..However, it is time for responsible people and especially PARENTS to stand up and demonstrate how these actions and lifestyles benefit NOBODY!! Looking IGNORANT and acting likea "gangster" should NEVER be an aspiration for rational and mature people.

So, I say that this issue is not only VERY REAL....but that YOU and your apologists are the very reason we have the problems we have!

Actions like this only further the Liberal cause which is destroying this country which once had individualistic values and not a hive mind!

I thought these guys were funny. Not as cool as jazz though. I thought the gold tooth was too much. But What im curious about is what black folks thought. Did they say hey cool a brother robot or say Oh no here we go again.
For me its not racism It is race stereotyping. And sterotyping Is what most movie characters Are based on.

I finally TF2 the other day, and I was really surprised at what I saw. After reading about it receiving soooo many negative reviews, I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. Since me friend wanted to see it in "peace" we left all our kids home and figured we would take them this Sunday to see it as a whole family outing.

We have now changed our minds. I will not take my kids to see a movie that I THOUGHT was for children so heavily laced with sexual innuendo, cursing, and racial stereotypes that I have to actually make a pass on a movie intended for them.

When we think it is ok for a child's toy to transform in a giant robot with hanging testicles, something is wrong!
When it is ok to have 2 argumentative, ugly and gold tooth wearing hoods as robots played up as comic relief for "fun", regardless of the images of negative stereotypes, then somethignis wrong!

I could go on, but what is wrong is out moral decay into accepting anything for the same of fun, $$, and/ or entertainement.

It is one thing to go see a comedian who tells you that he does racial jokes. You expect what is coming next. Some stuff we need to discuss and probably laugh at to deal with.

But to blindside the parents with a show @ kids with this stuff is ridiculous.

In the 1stflick, only Jazz introduced himself with vulgarity, calling them bitchs. And of course, he later dies as most black characters have in action films.
Now we have 2 Black based TFs that don't die, but kill you with what is supposed to be "humor".

Yes, this is my opinion, but many others feel the same way. It killed a lot of the fun of the movie.
Since Optimus is the "white" character, imagine if he started calling people bithces, pussies, and the sort?
If he told someone to shut the hell up before he pops a cap? or if Optimus had his tires rest on his crotch and called them his black balled tires?
People would be shocked and dismayed. But since similar was doen by just some genereic TFs, it seems that no one cares, and if we do complain then we must be crazy.

I mean did we need to see Torturo's cheeks? I was wondering if I was watchers TF2 or Van Wilder meets the Robots?

The saddest thing is that this was probably done in complete ignorance, but it does not make it excuseable.
Next time tell Michael Bay and the writers to stick to the plot and the action. Leave the humor to comedians!

AMEN!! However, I do not and WILL not think that this was done in ignorance! Too much time and effort goes into these movies. Too many people work on them and it shows that they wanted things to appear just as they seem.

I don't want the PC police to come in and FORCE Black robots, humans, whatever in a movie or story. I want them to be there naturally and done in a way that people are proud of. NOBODY likes gangsters or thugs..no matter waht color they are...and yea, as a white guy, I am tired of being made to feel ashamed for the past ( even though my G, G, Grandfather was a Union Army Calvary Captain who actually freed slaves in TN and Ga ). We CAN NOT change the past...We can work together to make sure that all races act in responsible and MATURE ways.

I already pointed out how Bay was slammed with bad press for the death of Jazz which he found himself in the hot seat coming up with excuses as to why he died. From that alone he was made aware that just like a sex, TFs also can have a "psudo race" based on their personality.

So the lame ass "steve erkel", "oops.........I did that" @brainy@ It does'nt fly in my book.

I could go on, but what is wrong is out moral decay into accepting anything for the same of fun, $, and/ or entertainement.

It is one thing to go see a comedian who tells you that he does racial jokes. You expect what is coming next. Some stuff we need to discuss and probably laugh at to deal with.

and how would you know if Jazz sucked or not. He was'nt even featured in the movie enough to get a feel for his character. Bay put him in long enough to establish that his personality/sterotype is ghetto black...........and now lets all watch the black bot die a horriable death. CLICHE'!

I liked Jazz. I liked his car and robot modes. I liked how he would kinda breakdance when he transformed. And I loved that scene where he misdirects Brawl's cannonfire during the battle in the city; it was a nod to the original animated film where Kup does the same thing to Blitzwing. The only thing I hated about Jazz was the "little b!tc#e$" line. I hated that!

The main thing I think people lose sight of concerning Jazz is that ultimately he was a hero. He faced Megatron one-on-one and sacrificed himself to help Sam escape with the Allspark. If he hadn't done that, I think the same people that demoan his characterization would have said, "Well, Jazz was the "black" character, so the regulated him to the background or sidelines so that a heroic "white" robot could step up to the plate and face Megatron and die a hero."

My point is, there are those that are gonna see racism in everything if they look hard enough, no matter what the truth or reality of the matter may actually be. It's like all of those conspiracy theorists that see a cover-up in everything the government does. Sometimes it is just a weather balloon, and sometimes a robot is just a robot that happens to have a "black" voice. Now one might consider the breakdancing and "jive-talk" as blatant stereotypical behavior associated with African Americans, but truthfully there are African Americans that actually engage in each if not both of those behaviors. Are they negative? I don't think so, not as long as they're not cursing. And Jazz was "black" in the original cartoon, complete with "jive-talk", if I remember correctly. I never heard anyone complain about the so-called negative stereotype that was illustrated in that version of the character.

So do I think Michael Bay is a predjudiced pig that covertly portrays different races in a negative manner under the guise of robots? Absolutely not, and I think to suggest otherwise is absurd. Look at how heroically he portrayed Will Smith's and Martin Lawrence's African American characters in the Bad Boys movies. And look at Tyrese Gibson's character in Transformers. I liked his character and thought he was a cool and heroic bad-@$$, and I never considered his race, not once. Furthermore, I think Anthony Anderson's and Bernie Mac's character's perpetuated the modern black stereotype more that anybody else in the movie, as much as I loved their characters and thought they were very funny, but nobody complains about them.

I just think if he were gonna be racist, it would come out more in the human actors. But maybe that's just me.

Now none of this means that I don't believe racism still exists in this country. It does unfortunately, and I'm afraid it always will in some form or another. I just don't think it exists in Michael Bay's movies. People that think so are making mountains out of mole-hills, in my humble opinion. As a matter of fact, I think if anything his movies illustrate and celebrate the diversity of this country.
