  1. Actually... That's not a bad idea, and would fit in rather nicely with the "Snoke is Plagueis" theory. It's got a nice thematic ring to it. Palpatine's Master against Palpatine's descendant, this time with the forces of evil gambling on the Skywalker to end the Palpatine as has already happened. Using the old trilogy as a basis and then swerve for the new trilogy does sound close to what they're trying to do here. However, I still think it's more likely to be something more obvious as this IS the same J.J. Abrams who gave us John Harrison. But it is a nifty theory I've not seen before.
  2. Yeah, no problem. I think that what they didn't expect was that the torso was MORE sought after than the 200x King Hssss it was originally supposed to come with, being based on classic MotU artwork. Then it was supposed to come with Buzz Saw Hordak, making that figure more worthwhile to some. So now it's become a whole big deal. I understand the whole thing is unfeasable, especially the idea of just sending out free polly bagged torsos to subscribers. I think one suggestion I read that I really liked was to switch this new Hssss figure with Dare in the subscription. Thus, Mattel fullfills the promise Toyguru made back at sub time of the torso, AND a follow up assurance that there would be no Son of He-Man figures in the "Wrap Up" vintage year. This THEN has the extra incentive of making Dare a barometer for more SoH characters. If people grab him up as an out of sub item, that could then push for more of the new characters to be included or not going forward. It appeases two sets of fans who subscribed on the promise of a new Hssss torso and not having to buy the somewhat divisive new characters. Then fans of the new characters can support that faction by buying Dare and hopefully get them included in further "Fan Choice" waves like the upcoming NA figures. It saves Mattel a good portion of ill will generated by these issues and while not ideal, goes a good way toward repairing the trust lost with all this. However, reading their latest statements, it seems more like they're just interested in tossing Toyguru under the bus and telling subscribers to just deal with it than finding another solution. Which is... well, not a good solution at all.
  3. You did. The Hssss torso was originally shown to come with the 200x He-Man vs. King Hssss 2-pack. Then as sub time rolls around, Toyguru stated that they couldn't quite cost out the pack with the second torso included. But went on to state that as a subscriber, you would still be getting the torso later in the year. Now it is no longer coming with a figure, but is its own out of sub offering. And there is why people are so angry over the issue. It was originally something stated to be a part of what you are purchasing for subbing the whole year. To now state that it is out of the sub and thus an EXTRA purchase above and beyond what they signed up for rubs many people as dishonest as they feel it was already something they paid for as a subscriber. Some of them purchasing multiple subs to obtain multiple Hssss torsos. It's not like one of the many accessories that have been cut along the way behind the scenes, but was an element actually used to sell the sub last year. ("Buy the sub and get 200x King Hssss and the Earl Norem inspired snake torso!") And this is coming on the tail end of MANY issues pople have with MotUC, Toyguru, Mattel, Digital River, etc. with the new team in charge being supposed champions of transparency, but as recently as SDCC still holding this info back when asked about it specifically to now announce this "new" figure. So it's no surprise how big an explosion this is. This is going to be a last straw issue for many if Mattel doesn't figure out a way to salvage the whole thing, and thus far the actual kitbash naked Hssss figure shown isn't helping.
  4. That's what I've always liked about the non-movie designs. They are wildly varied and makes them stand out as unique even when posed together. They ARE individual characters from around the country, with different specialties, from different branches of the armed forces. Having them unique and clashing to some extent helps sell them as individuals. They're not a single combat unit, rather experts who are called upon when the need arises on a mission by mission basis. Now on the other hand, I dig my Cobra army as uniform as possible. Faceless blueshirts and such. With the occasional red here and there. (Crimson Guards, HISS Drivers, etc.) It gives them an inhuman uniformity that tells you all you need to know about Cobra Commander. These men are canon fodder. Given training and armed to an extent, but there is always another in line behind them. Sure, the members of Cobra Command are rather unique themselves, but there are far fewer individuals than in the Joe ranks. It creates a nice visual and philosophical dichotomy between the two sides.
