  1. My favorite origin is the Sales guy...but this origin was far more complex than the other ones. In a sense it was more of a tragedy than an out right, "I'm evil" concept. There were many other characters involved with the creation of cobra and the creation of CC himself. Zartan reveals to a captured Fred VII that with out him cobra would never have existed. It come about that it was the Jugglers (NSA) group that have been pulling the strings all along. Again cobras development was a complicated story...so many characters had their hand in the cookie jar. This type of store fit the designs of a long running comic book. To do a story like this would mean you need a TV series. This would take a very savy director and writing team to pull off in a film, and that kind of talent is not going to work on a toy based movie. The cartoon origin took the overly scifi approach. There's not much to say here but that the aliens have landed, been here a while and that they placed a guy to be a human terrorist leader to take over the world for the aliens. OK thats cool for weekday afternoon TV after school. Those of us who loved the drama of the comics, CC being made to lead a puppet government to terrorize the world and he has a son...we really didn't care for alien CC and would rather pretend it never really happened. The Movie origin sort of balances between both extremes. A simi-plasable story line of how a young military scientist become scary techno genetic genius later becomes cobra commander by, not respect and ability, but by mind control. This fits the movie mold and while changing everything we all know and love about the series this can be appreciated as a completely new story.
  2. Oujia makes sense...this movie was done before and was called WitchBoard, a cheezy horror/slasher flick. It had a few sequels. But this is a title that Michael Bay can make into a real horror flick, (another fad he's been going thru that has also saved his career other than just transformers). I real disappointed that Ridly Scott has taken on what seems to be a nonsense film making...looks like he's hurting for money if he got tagged for this. Gore doing Clue is actually an obvious choice. Oh well this is all I had to say on these...
  3. Hey FLASH70, wannna place a bet on who's e-mail Hasbro will respond to first? You work on that petition of yours while I send an e-mail to Hasbro suggesting that because their figures are so assume that they should be even more expensive, like around $10...
  4. well the cartoon as it stands, I really don't see how it will continue. All of your major cobras are being killed off one by one with Zartan as the latest dead cobra...and now "we are off to KILL the commander the wonderful commander of COBRA". I think the only step left is to do a CGI animation deal with deep story like Clone Wars Animated where they re-do everything!
  5. RIP Zartan but hey thats what you get when you turn a bad ass like Zartan into a mindless BOSS thug at the end of a level in this video game called RESOLUTE. Whats next now? Obviously Duke and Scarlet have got to go out and "KILL Cobra Comander!"
  6. WOW and I thought I was harsh with my Cons / LOSE commentary... I agree with every point, right down to saying I missed a few things for CONS section. I think it is safe to say that the realistic, everybody can die approach has done a terrific job of hiding all the glaring flaws in the writing. The nice art work also helps as well as having a Cobra Commander that we can all believe in. Now as far as leadership with the Joes, that has always been misunderstood. First of all, 90% of the GI Joes are all enlisted personnel and that 90% is all we have seen on screen thus far. The only noted officers (outside of Hawk) are Capt ACE, Warrant Officer Flint, Warrant Officer Wild Bill, Warrant Officer torpedo, Capt Doc The 3 Warrant Officers generally have respect for the commissioned and non-commissioned enlisted side of the house and as a rule function as specialists in their field. Capt Doc may be an officer but he has a specific duty and his leadership belongs in the ER Capt ACE is a combat pilot and by all rights would be the appropriate leader of the GI Joe team or at least is someone Duke must answer to since we don't see Hawk. As far as Scarlet, I think she has been rewritten to have gone green to gold, meaning that she went to become an officer, this point she would be a LT. Now Like I stated before 90% of the Joes we all know and love are not officers but are enlisted and from there the top dog of the enlisted side of the house is going to be your First Sargent...in this case First Sargent Duke. So Hawk or no Hawk...Hawk is a general and relies on his First Sargent to move his troops. I hope this helps you all in understanding why Duke is still the leader of the Joe Team.
  7. I actually thought this was Zarana for Resolute! oh well like the design non the less
  8. Pros / Wins! people actually die! Major Bludd is killed for treachery Bazooka RIP character developments for Scarlet, Duke and pretty much the whole Joe team done very well w/ exception to Beach head (see cons) when team members go out on missions they wear the appropriate mission gear (exp: if Scarlet flies a jet she's in a pilots smock) Dialtone is a girl waiting to be promoted (great call there), Ripcord is white, and has a bad sarcastic attitude. Gung Ho and Roadblock are typical. Drama and tension between Scarlet and Duke "me or him, you choose" missions are well written, accidents happen like when tunnel rat lost a few men classic 007 type gadgetry, helium satellites, missile projection TV, references to real world technology and tactics, HAARP towers, extremely high altitude ballooning considerations made to real limitations in technology, glider packs not designed for HALO drop It's all in the details and the writers got that cold. Firefly, Baroness are typical Cobra Commander is PURE WIN! I never like this guy in the cartoon and tolerated him in the comics. So to get me to like this guy was well done! Cons / losses! James McCullen Destro became "VIN DESTRO" Destros design is horrible again "VIN DESTRO" Storm Shadow is PURE LOSE!!!! Making him the original murderer of his uncle and making him this vengeful jealous guy is just a completely different character. Even in the original cartoon SS had more honor. The back story of the uncles murder is not GI Joe, it's something else. Zartan, why do I get the feeling that the writers are referencing the whinny wimpy version from the cartoons and not the highly intelligent and ballsy Zartan of the comics? Oh that's right, cos they changed the story of Storm Shadow and well Zartan get's changed as well. Beach Head! Oh kay, one would think that by now the one cool dude with commando gear and mask would be on his own running recon, sniping or blowing things up...and when he's not alone all by himself waiting for something to kill he's un masked out yelling at new recruits on the rifle range, right? Wrong! he doesn't even get a line. Comm'on writers, like Snake Eyes is the joes version of Storm Shadow, Beach Head is the Joes Firefly...would have been nice to see him treated as such. Oh and did I mention "Vin Destro" is PURE LOSE!?
  9. I'm not excited because I still have not seen ANY verions of Zartan, Specialist Trakker, Cobra Paratrooper. Shouldn't the market be flooded with these impossible to find figures before we start seeing 2009 Resolute figures?
  10. Hey the original poster is right! I don't know about wave 10 but I sure as hell would have loved to lay my hands on a new Zartan figure, not the new swamp one but the older devils due deco. Here are other figures I have never seen in any store: BATS FireFly Any ZARTAN Major Bludd Surpentor Beachhead Now my walmart has been good at the comic packs which are alright and the vehicles have been steady however is the firebat out yet? I have given up hope in ever seeing any of the single carded figures on pegs, I wish the GI joe had the same treatment as Star Wars (peg cloggers) but who knows. I'm looking forward to the Sky Hawk (always wanted one as a kid) and lift ticket combo. Looks like a cool match.
  11. Sorry guys but it was new to me and I didn't see a thread on it, so... Sorry for posting old news
  12. http://enewsi.com/news.php?catid=194&itemid=13756 "Ah Ninja?!...I didn't know we got Ninja!"
  13. Well, why base the thing off a children's toy property then? Its like taking the Smurfs or Dora the Explorer and turning them into a socio-political commentarie with threads of gratuitous sexual tension. Its like asking Care Bears to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. Why not just do.........NAVY SEALS: the TV series? Or do a series based on the Rogue Warrior books--each of which have colourful characters tailor-made for grown-ups. I dunno, some folks get off on spinning kid's material into adult stuff, but I'm not one of them. I gotta agree. If they insist on "G.I. Joe" they could do the 12" Joe or even Adventure Team. None of those figures had any real personality. And THAT is the key to G.I. Joe and why the 3" figures stayed popular. Personality. Sure, you can get into the debate of "toon" Bazooka vs "comic" Bazooka. Sure, you can see how over the top the characters are for the most part (and I'm not even talking the weirds like Raptor), but its STILL the key to G.I. Joe. Without that, you, as you recommended, have "NAVY SEALS: The Series". The reason this is not a NAVY SEALS project is that I'm working with an already established story arc that I find interesting. The main concept is that of a new terrorist group based on some guy nationalistic ideas has been created on American soil. Most of your arguments are focused on the assumption that GI Joe the group as being the main character of interest. However if you took Cobra out of the equation then GI Joe would be no different (with the exception of coed troops) from Navy Seals. Hence forth my concept makes Cobra/Springfield the main character and primary focus not the Joes. The whole idea is to take something so fantastic (in the same way Eick did with Galactica) and make it almost believable. keep in mind I only reference the marvel comic material, not the cartoon. Honestly this thread was suppose to be a fun way to break the disappointment of the Joe movie. It's like mad libs: the rules are simple; re-cast a new Joe v cobra story using the cast of the new Battlestar Galactica. Lol, then the flaw of your argument is that you presume everyone thinks the movie is going to tank. When I talk about personlity, I mean COBRA characters too (even if just lowly Vipers). I never said anything about taking Cobra out of the equation. Look at the new Transformers cartoon. They didn't remove the Decepticons from the equation, but the Decepticons are no longer THE defacto "bad guys" in the series. Some episodes didn't even HAVE them (the Decepticons). Something similar could work for G.I. Joe. Cobra no longer being the defacto bad guy. Destro's Iron Grenadiers immediately spring to mind and we could even see some episodes WITHOUT G.I. Joe! (Cobra vs Destro). Then we have other bad guys of various ilk and ideology that are unafilliated (at least in the open or obviously) with Cobra. A good example would be the Gamemaster from the cartoon. I'm not sure a "Cobra is the main focus" thing would work for a TV series. The occasional Anti-hero is fine (The Punisher or Dexter). But TV viewers need GOOD GUYS to rally behind and root for. That isn't to say that the show (good guys and bad guys) can't be character driven. But even Battlestar Galactica focused primarily on the humans. Think of it from an army building standpoint. One significant discussion involved "Greenshirts". Some say they don't like the concept because G.I. Joe is a a group of highly skilled individuals going up against the "faceless hordes" of Cobra. It is MUCH cooler to see Snake Eyes whoop up on 6 Vipers then to see Snake Eyes and 5 or 6 Greenshirts whoop up on the same 6 Vipers. There is a greater sense of accomplishment and danger. YOu can root for Snake Eyes. I was reading an article about D&D (I'm a gamer). It was talking about how good aligned parties are better because the characters have common goals (for the most part) and are wiling to cooperate to achieve those goals. Evil aligned parties do not have that core foundation because they are a group of INDIVIDUALS who are looking out for the welfare of themselves rather than the welfare of the group (as a good aligned group would). Sure they work together (the evil characters) and they may have a common goal. Think of this way. Good aligned groups have members that see each other as friends. Evil aligned ones have members that see each other as rivals. And that is G.I. Joe and Cobra in a nutshell: Joes are friends with a common goal to protect stuff. They will work together for a common goal to achieve that protection. Cobras on the other hand are rivals with a common goal to acquire wealth and/or power. They will work together to achieve that goal, yet once that goal is reached, well only one can REALLY have the power, can't they? ONE of them has to be the wealthiest, right? Brandon Fresher is set to be Gung Ho, the Rock is cast as Shipwreck, you have a waynes brother as Ripcord, Cobra Commander is a nerdy 20 something kid who's sister also known as Baroness in love with our lead Joe, Duke...man if you are not laughing now you will be in the theater! After reading all the posts on this forum about the film I think I'm not alone in assuming that this film release is not something to have high expectations on! But hey I could be wrong, Superman 2 was alright in comparison to the other three, but someone still made a TV show (Smallville) that was far more successful than even the shameful attempt at film not made of steel. When Transformers Animated omits Decepticons, you still have Autobots; the novelty of your main characters turning from robot to planes and cars and cycles. GI Joe without Cobra? Well JJ Abrams might as well be involved...but this time Jennifer Gardners role is Scarlet not Bristal. The Character of Cobra breaks up the old formula of the "will work together for a common goal to achieve that protection (killing the bad guy) versus said bad guy". What makes Cobra just a little (not a lot but a little) unique as a bad guy is that they start off as a workers political movement, turn into a para military group and then they get their own town...later an island, who's identity has to be sanctioned by the government as a legal country because this once domestic terrorist grows to attain legitimate legislative power while wearing the Cobra symbol on the lapel of their designer suit jackets and on their silk ties. Yet Cobra has never been the main focus of the GI Joe story....okay!?!?! The only thing really interesting about the Joe side of the fence has been Snake Eyes and his story which BTW bleeds right into the Cobra thing once again. Out side of Snakes, every other Joe (IMHO) is just a freakish costumed renegade soldier of the week. What ever the case my be, I was very much into the dramatic side of the Joe comic and most of that cool drama with the twists and turns happened with the main bad guys. I caught on to the social commentary of the rag and thought it was cool.

  15. Well bare in mind my idea for this was mainly to KILL ALL of the brightly colored personality and character issues of the the GI Joe story that was developed for kids and make the story a story for us grown ups. Here, this TV concept would retain only the MAIN themes of the story while abolishing the unrealistic/contrived/conflicting issues of 80's style story writing. The main concepts to be intact would include: Cobra's development- a struggling sales person/union leader creates a National Socialist political movement with a para-military organization attached to it. The Jugglers- secret agency in the NSA connected to the development of Cobra (possibly to create a terrorist group they think they can control while reaping benefits of global military weapons sales) Snake-eyes- after being injured during Iraq war (modern day Vietnam) his drama includes being taken in and ostracized by a ninja clan. He later joins GI Joe. GI Joe- first ever fully developed experimental anti-terrorist group specifically designed to take out Cobra. Zartan- involved in three of the main story arcs (Snake eyes, Storm shadow, Jugglers). Part of an experimental soldier enhancement program. The only super human character in the series. creates biker gang called Dreadknocks out of former para-military members. Has a sister and Brother. Dreadknocks- military operatives (former international special ops) posing as a biker/punk gang. The core-members Buzzer, Ripper, Torch run lower operatives as cell gangs when extra muscle needed. Buzzer is the intellect of the group as well as its leader (Zartans second in command). Torch is the demolitions expert and builder, Ripper is the heavy weapons specialist and tactical expert. Dreadknocks are more or less the "Bad Guy" version of GI Joe (yes, the dumbass dreadknocks is a thing of the past, sorry I just couldn't buy a Cambridge grad being a complete bafoon) Storm Shadow- after his uncle assainated he believes the killer to be in the ranks of a newly formed para-military group based in the USA. he joins the group to find his uncles killer. He was the one who brought Snake eyes into his ninja clan. Destro/marrs, weapons manufacturer based in glassglow scotland. Has been dealing arms for the Jugglers and later picked up a new contract to develop and sell arms thru a new para-military group in USA called Cobra. Destro's family history relates back to the story of the "Man in the Iron Mask" Springfield USA- Sanctioned county in US that is all run and inhabited by citizens who are followers of the New Nationalist political revolution. Main Cobra base is underground. ARBCO- main shipping company for Cobra materials Extensive Enterprises/Crimson Guard- Corporate conglomerate for all New Nationalist based companies. Protected by the Crimson Guard international security firm. Crimson Guard later retains US contract to protect US diplomats (yes, this is an intended Blackwater reference) Now my cast line up thus far: Joe/Cobra- Actors name ... Galactica Character Duke- Tahmoh Penikett ... Lt. Karl C. 'Helo' Agathon Lady Jay- Katee Sackhoff ... Captain Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace Scarlet- Grace Park ... Lt. Sharon 'Boomer' Valerii Major General Flagg- Edward James Olmos ... Admiral William Adama / Zartan- Mark Sheppard ... Romo Lampkin Zarana- Tricia Helfer ... Number Six Baroness- Michelle Forbes ... Admiral Helena Cain Tomax/Xamot- Matthew Bennett ... Aaron Doral Juggler Member- Donnelly Rhodes ... Dr. Cottle Flint- Michael Trucco ... Samuel Anders Lt Gen Hawk- Callum Keith Rennie ... Leoben Conoy Destro- Michael Hogan ... Colonel Saul Tigh Destro's Son- Jamie Bamber ... Captain Lee 'Apollo' Adama Storm Shadow- Terry Chen ... Chuckles Snake Eyes (unveiled)- Colin Corrigan ... Nowart Snake Eyes (costume)- Martial artist/stuntman Billy- Paul Campbell ... Billy Keikeya Ship Wreck- Aaron Douglas ... Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol Dr. Brainwave- Dean Stockwell ... Brother Cavil Doc- Rick Worthy ... Simon Roadblock- Carl Lumbly ... Lt. Danny 'Bulldog' Novacek President of the New Nationalist Party/Cobra Commander- Richard Hatch ... Tom Zarek That rounds out my list for now. Please notice there is no call out for serpentor because CC was the only real leader of Cobra, PERIOD! Hope some of you can have fun with this and enjoy
