Man_of_Steel posted this thread selling off his DC toys

http://forums.toynewsi.com/index.php?showtopic=2093505

We came to an agreement on a price for three figures, DC Superheroes Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, and Supergirl, $65 shipped of all three. I sent him money via paypal and asked him to please notify me when he shipped the figures out. I went a few days without hearing from him. I sent him a PM again asking if he'd shipped the figures, no reply. I waited some more and sent another PM, no replay. Finally I got his email address from paypal and contacted him that way asking for a refund. Again, no reply.

It's been over a month since I've sent payment. In short, he took my money and disappeared.

It may not be a "him", paypal name was for Kathy Williams. I will admit I screwed myself with paypal in that I sent payment as a gift to avoid him or her getting a fee. This is something I've done in the past with honest sellers. Guess I won't be doing that again with people I don't know.

I did contact a reputable TNI member and inquired about his dealings with him. He indicated that he may have been in the process of moving but even so. If you're choosing to sell off a huge collection you're choosing to take on some added responsibility. Especially if someone sends you money. You don't leave him hanging for a month. Kinda sucks to be shafted out of $65. Best I can hope for at this point is someone reads this and avoids the same situation.

Update on this lowlife:

I did some asking around and came up with another email address and name for Man_of_Steel. Matthew Mason, operates out of IL.

I've emailed him twice a day for the last week or so to get a response from him. He finally wrote me back Saturday claiming the package went out several weeks ago parcel post. I responded asking for a tracking number. Lo and behold, he replies today saying there is no tracking number.

Just for $#it$ and giggles, I even went to the post office annex on the off chance that my package ended up there. Nada.

I replied saying that I did some digging and know that he's a scammer. Told him to quit playing games and give me my money back. Knowing how cowards like to act from behind a computer screen, I have a feeling I know how this will end, but that's that.

When I called out Matthew Mason via email all he did was play dumb. "I don't know what you're talking about", "Enjoy your toys" was all I got.

He deleted his dummy yahoo address themanofsteel@yahoo.com

I'm not going to waste my life playing games with him. He stole my money....one day it will catch up with him.

Not surprised it is Matt Mason since he has been ripping off people here on ADC/TNI for years, if not for a decade, and gets away with it. He is infamous here, so yeah...

If you search his name here, I am sure you can find old threads about him.

While I don't think I have ever been ripped off by him here (I almost did once, and I did got ripped off by a kid who sold the figure I bought from him and he apologized for it - he said his dad died or something), I have noticed patterns of Matt Mason.

His username is usually a DC character name.

He would ask the buyer to send him money via mail

He would use addresses around his hometown that really isn't his

He would sometimes use images of mentally handicap children as an excuse why he didn't send the toys

His figures are usually too good to be true. There was a buy thread he did for DCUC figures where he was selling rare DCUC figures for retail value. The figures included Two-Face and Catwoman. He even had pics. The thing is that Matt Mason steals for years on various boards, so it is likely he ripped people off from their rare toys or used stolen money to get the toys and used the image to steal more.

Lastly, before trading with someone here, be sure to check the trade history here since Matt Mason does this crap for ages.

Well, with eBay you can usually get your money back through Paypal. You're always taking a risk trading and buying on message boards. However, if the person is a known member on the boards and constantly contributes they are more likely to have a successful trade with as they wouldn't want to leave these boards. It is a risk that is always there though.
