Illumina Day! December 15th

Recommended Posts

This idea was inspired by a suggestion in the MattyCollector Illumina thread I read from Bruticus and I have been working on it since then.

Now, I'm ready to introduce Illumina Day!

This is a fun event meant for fans of Illumina to help spread the word about the character and show your support for her. You can take part in this even if you had no idea who she was before reading this thread. If you think she and/or her cat would make a cool figure in MOTUC, you should take part!

You can check out my site if you have questions about the event:

http://motuc-illumin....cgi?board=talk

(You can find signature banners and advertisement posters there as well)

The main image to re-post on other message boards should make everything pretty clear. I hope you guys participate! :)

Well, Illumina has become a cult favourite character. For those new to Illumina these are her origins:

Illumina is a character meant to make her first appearance in MVCreations' MOTU Volume 3, Issue 4 comic. She was to have the story line in the bio that's on the image I posted. The variant cover of Issue 4 (showing Illumina and her Cat) was advertised in Volume 3, Issues 1, 2 and 3. Then, she never appeared in Issue 4 because Mattel instituted a "no new characters" policy and put a strict limit on the characters that could be used and the stories that could be told. This could have been because the 2002 toy line or show wasn't doing as well as they would have liked, but I'm not 100% on that. Other companies have put restrictions like this in comics and TV shows too. The Justice League Unlimited cartoon was not allowed to use Superman or Batman supporting characters and villains for a period of time, for example.

Anyhow, since that time, Illumina has gotten sort of a cult following over the years. It began when she kept being advertised though, with MVC readers wondering who she was and how she would fit into the story.

Here's the last advertisement of Illumina from Volume 3, Issue 3:

I guess people cry for what they cant get...

Toy Guru said we needed to drum up support if we want her produced. I don't necessarily believe it'll effect TG's decisions at all, I think his mind is made up on Illumina already... but I see no harm in this campaign.

That's the same reaction I had about Illumina. She just looks more awesome, and a 2-pack with her and her white cat would probably be around the $60 mark.

Since the people over at He-Man.org who want her so badly don't just want the figure, they want her white cat too then maybe TG should think about it being a two pack SDCC exclusive instead of just putting her in the yearly subscription line up.

Ya, I would definitely take this character and her cat over the Star Sisters, Photog, or Mighty Spector. I actually think she looks pretty awesome and wouldn't think twice about buying her.

I want Ram Man! I don't care about the cult following this figure has. Apparently the Star Sisters also have a cult following. If they make her I'll buy her, but I'd rather get all the "real" characters first. (Including NA He-man and Skeletor)

I don't have a problem with anyone who wants a specific character made, no matter how obscure. For those that want her, I want Mattel to make Illumina. But I gotta say it always seems like these crusades are focused on a female, aren't they? Green Goddess, Bikini (Battle Ground) Teela, Illumina, Star Sisters.

Is it a coincidence, or is it fanboys who like any figure with a female torso? ;)

LOL no Eric it's the He-Man.org Fan boys section who are demanding her just like they did the Star Sisters,

I'm sure Illumina will get made one day just not in a yearly subscription because the org members want her and her cat as a two pack. So If Mattel makes her I see it as a SDCC exclusive down the road at $50.00

If the line lasts long enough they will make everyone. I just don't see a need to disrupt the road map for the line to get a character few people knew about before ones that are more well known. They will work her in eventually, if the line keeps going on.

Yeah I would 10x rather have her and her cat instead of The Star Sisters, Spector, or Mo-lar. I understand why the did Mo-lar, but still. Illumina and her cat would have made a lot better SDCC exclusive than what we got that year.

Yeah, it does seem odd that the crusades are focused on females considering that they are male characters with unproduced toys and large cult followings. As much as I like female figures, I would like to see that mohawk guy from the mini comic, the mummy horde guy, and the rock horde guy from the 200x being made.

guitar.gifYou're right! I thought about why that seems to be and I realized why. Toy companies still have the old "boys don't want toys of girls" stuck in their minds, so the ladies tend to need more support. From the sounds of the new DC line at retail (which takes over the retail DCUC line), it might have next to no women in it, which is really disappointing. :( At least Poison Ivy will make it on MattyCollector.com

Back to Illumina, I have some new pictures to share! I actually posted these the day before the creator of Illumina updated his Illumina MOTU concept piece! So, here they all are:

Could make for a very interesting figure.

But, Not at the expense of possibly losing a slot meant for a true classic character.

The slots 'lost' to non-classic characters is already rampant. Carnivus, Vikor, Green Goddess, BG Teela, He-Ro, King Greyskull etc. Not to mention the obscure NA characters like Optikk.

So if we have to push back somebody like RamMan ( who let's face it is gonna be the final figure in the line) to get a cool Illumina figure with a giant white cat, I'm all for it.

Ok First off you're talking old hip & thigh (ie Teela) it would need the new female buck and that Skirt is very 200x looking and even with the new female buck if the skirt is Sculpted just as it looks in the sketch it won't let her legs spread wide enough to sit on the cat.

Have you submitted all this in ask matty? I think if you show it all there Toy Guru has to see it and then it can be shown to Terry Higuchi from MOTUC design to see if they could make it work and what changes might need to be made.

Honestly I don't see this as a two pack in the yearly line because the two packs are usually army builders (ie palace guards) When and if Mattel ever makes Illumina& her cat it will most likely wind up being a SDCC exclusive and I say this because they have had two packs at the $40.00 range (ie Mo-lar & skeletor) although this two pack would need to be $50.00 -$60.00
