M.A.S.K. Joins G.I.Joe?!?

Hum... If this is indeed true... it is very interesting and a very cool idea on Hasbro's part. But the thing that was exciting about MASK was the transforming cars. While it will be cool to get some characters from that particular toyline in the 25th joe line, MASK was all about the vehicles. I wonder is this might be some sort of test to see if there is an interest in MASK. I wonder if the fan reaction to this figure will determine if we actually get a full fledged MASK line, vehicles and all.

Any one want to place odds that this will be a repaint of the Ace/Wild Bill body?

Hmm, you may be right....

I remember MASK vehicles being damned near indestructable, they were great!

One of the mods on Hisstank confirmed that the Specialist Trakker figure from the Hall of Heroes list is indeed the same character as Matt Trakker, leader of the transforming car toyline M.A.S.K. from the 80's. So what does everyone think?

Confirmed? From who? Not saying that Hisstank's not reliable, but just saying it's confirmed without stating the source seems a bit fishy. Also, this very well could have been the GI Joe character Tracker, with a slight spelling change to avoid any copyright issues. Heck, it might have been a typo knowing that list. A list that was missing a character altogether (#50) with no explaination.

Seeing is believing. And I ain't seen nothing yet.

I think I'll have to reserve judgement until more information is available. On the one hand, it sounds interesting (how are they going to explain that one away...) But on the other hand, it has to be handled just right, or it's going to come across as stupid. Wouldn't mind seeing a picture, if they had one. Both lines ran the edge of feasibility, so I guess you could combine them.

this is what i have been saying, tracker has to be from the 91 line, nothing to do with mask, didnt hasbro say that there wont be any new joes till 09? i think people are getting way too happy and find out thats its not him

If true it's EXTREMELY lame. Just imagine all the characters that should have been made who are going to get bumped in order to make space for a MASK figure. A total waste of a slot.

Yeah, this statement pretty much says it all.

If we got a separate MASK line using the same body construction, that'd be alright, but really...

i say if it is true keep the lines separate and give us more joes or cobras.

I'm with you on that one, i was reading the hisstank.com and there's a UPC for that figure..

this was on the post that destro gave us. The first hint of this figure came from Wal-Mart listings of a G.I. Joe M.A.S.K. Figure (M.A.S.K. UPC 0065356936410) with our second clue coming from Hasbro's G.I. Joe Web Site with a poll listing Specialist Trakker.i don't know what hasbro's doing, but this suck, maybe its not tracker from the 91 set... i wonder hows hes going to look.better be nothing like duke,

Huh. Interesting! One of three things will happen:

1. Since Hasbro acquired Kenner, they in effect own the rights to produce M.A.S.K. toys, which they may in turn mine the property as an offshoot of G.I. Joe.

2. Matt Trakker is now actually a member of the G.I. Joe team, which could turn out very cool as an espionage expert, if they do it right, or...

3. Hasbro will try to fully incorporate M.A.S.K. into G.I. Joe, which the ten-year-old in me would think it's awesome, but the sentimental adult collector would think it's...disturbing and wrong. (lol)

But like someone else said, if this is some way for Hasbro to test the waters so-to-speak in order to find out if there's still interest in M.A.S.K., I say WOO-HOO!! That's a very exciting notion.

I think:

a. One figure doesn't constitute an invasion.

b. The "This guy took the slot of one of my favorite Joe" gripe doesn't hold a lot of water with me. Exactly how many "slots" are there in a wave? The last wave had three new figures. Does that mean there were two "wasted" slots? Three wasted slots?

c. Neat little addition, as long as it doesn't become a regular thing.

This isn't the first time Hasbro merged characters from another toyline to another. In the Transformers line, both Takara and Hasbro used Gobot names, whereas the former tried to reinvent the characters while the latter just used the name

You're taking me out of context here. It's not that “my favorite joe” isn't getting made, it's that hasbro's throwing a figure into this line that isn't even joe-related.

The word "slots" has less to do with how many they make in a wave and more to do with how many they make in the long run (I think we both know that). Realistically there are only going to be so many of these and chances are that some characters are going to get passed over. I'd just like to think that more deserving figures didn't get bumped for Matt Trakker, especially in a G.I.Joe tribute line.

Wasn't there an Action Man in one of the Joe box sets?

Personally, I think it's a neat idea. The 25th Anni line is all about nostalgia, and I see no harm in paying a little tribute to another line, as long as it's limited. Granted, Trakker is effectively a new character for Joes, so I can see the complaints there, and I agree that they shouldn't go overboard, but again, it's just a little harmless nostalgia, and if Hasbro wants to do a one-off figure, it's not like they have a lot of options. If we were still in the pre-25th stuff, I doubt so many people would have any problems with it, just writing it off as a lark... but because it's the 25th line, he's automatically 'unworthy' and taking up the space of 'real Joes'. While there are tons of Joes I'd like to see before Trakker myself, I still think it's at least better than getting yet another Snake-Eyes.

Honestly though, it does occur to me that Hasbro literally has hundreds of molds from the JvC/ST/VvV/DTC years just sitting around. I wouldn't mind seeing them crank out a revamped MASK line using those as the figures. Even a few of the vehicles might work as-is, although I'd expect a ton of new ones for it.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from there. Just that I read a lot of posts in general where people say, "Why are we getting _____ when we still don't have a _______ ?" Sometimes I think it's just an issue of people's wish lists not being granted. It happened with Nemesis Enforcer, that's for sure.

Granted, Matt isn't even a GI Joe, but we could all think of him as a new character along the lines of Mjr. Barrage or Bomb Strike. Which, I've always thought, working one or two completely new characters into the 25th line wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I think a merge between M.A.S.K. and Joe would actually benefit the linesas long as they make the vehicles to Joe scale and not be just small enough to piss us off cause we couldnt use em with our fav joes. We all would love to see these lines seperate and on the pegs and shelves like we did as kids, but M.A.S.K. could use some of the joe fan base and get a lift off. Parents (dads espcially) will see these toys and will want to buy them for their kids,, and themselves. so maybe that wont be so bad.

The more I think about this idea of MASK being in the Joe Verse, the more excited I get. I just think about all the cool story telling potential. MASK Fighting Cobra, Joe Fighting VENOM, Cobra and VENOM teaming up to thwart Joe. Maybe VENOM is a subsidiary of Cobra. Maybe Extensive Enterprises owns VENOM. And it would be cool to develop some interpersonal relationships between the teams. Maybe Duke falls in love with Gloria, Vanessa and Major Bludd have a fling, Cover Girl and Brad Turner Get married. Not sure if any Joes share the same last name as any MASK team members but perhaps there is the potential for siblings (hum... google here I come).

So lets see.. Potential MASK characters I would want in Joe Style:

Matt Trakker

Bruce Sato

Alex Sector

Dusty Hayes

Gloria Baker

Brad Turner

Hondo MacLean

Buddie Hawks

Miles Mayhen

Sly Rax

Cliff Dagger

Vanessa Warfield

Bruno Sheppard

If we got all of those with their Vehicles... That would totally Rock! But I WOULD want this to move to its own line.. I do think these DO NOT need to be a part of thwe Joe line.
