I just completed taking an inventory of my G1 collection and noticed that except for Rumble and Frenzy, I have all the 1984 Decepticons. This is great news for me, but I did have one concern. I noticed that ALL of them were reissues. Not an original in the bunch. That is almost the same case for the 1984 Autobots. So this made me thing of a question, does it matter to me that I have mostly reissues and not the originals. I am still thinking about this question, but while i am thinking about it i thought i would do a poll.

My question is: Do you prefer Original over Reissue?

Please feel free to post in detail why you picked your answer.

I have a pretty decent collection of original G1 figures. However they were never originally mine. I got them before the reissues became affordable, I believe at the time only the limited runs were available and cost more then a comparable original G1 loose did.

Generally I don't mind having a G1 or Reissue as long as I don't have to break the bank for either and its in very good (g1) or new (reissue) condition.

Right now I currently only buy reissue figures though, there is something to be said for being the first person to open the package. This though is more a product of me having the majority of the G1 figures that have caught my interest.

For me it depends on the design/construction. Has it been modified from the original and if so is an improvement or not. When this question came up the first character that popped into my mind was G1 Optimus Prime. When released back in the 80's toy safety was not as strict so you had realistic style smoke stacks that rise above the shoulder. With the reissues they have been truncated. And then there is the issue with Megatron's original mold. Because it was/is so realistic looking at a quick glance now any gun Megatron has to have a brightly colored tip.

I'm like Silverbolt in that I like being the first person to own and/or open a given figure. I'm just one of those obsessive/compulsive collectors that like mint, right-out-of-the-factory-case sealed toys. Concerning the re-issues, I'd much rather have them. Why? Well, they're cheaper, of course, but in most cases, they're an improvement over the original toys. For example, I like how the Autobots have blue eyes and the Decepticons have red eyes, so they're 'toon accurate. And alot of labels are now stamped on them, instead of the traditional stickers.

I'm just all about the re-issues. Nice mint, brand-new toys in case-fesh packaging...how can you go wrong? Now I can appreciate someone owning the original G1 toys, but I'd only want them if they were sealed and still brand-new, and we all know how much those can be. So I'm quite satisfied with collecting re-issues, definitely.

And Operator7G...the Encore Optimus Prime has the original smokestacks, although I'm not sure the fists are like the originals. They may be like the TRU Commemorative version that has this little weird "cup-in-the-hand" sculpt thing going on. But I've not opened mine to know. And sometimes you can find a re-issue Megatron that's un-modified and comes without the orange tip. I had one and foolishly sold it. *sigh*

I mostly have the Originals but I also have some reissue do to how some of my originals are broken like I have the original Jazz butt his head got stuck on the roof of the car when I try to glue him when I was trying to repair his hood. And like Red Alert I have the original one but I also got the reissue because I didn't have any of his weapons so I got him. Soundwave was a different case the original one I had I couldn't stand him up anymore without turning is legs backwords so I had to get a the reissue. Ones like Starscream,Smokescreen and Sideswipe I never own the original and so when I hear the reissues where coming out I got them from Japan. So I don't mine getting both verison. But I do need to get a new Swoop the one I have he has no weapons and his beak is broken off a friend of mine gave me him like that when I got him.

The fix for the loose leg Soundwave is to put actual batteries in his battery compartment. Puts enough weight to the back for him to not topple forward.

I always prefer the original if we don't bring money into the mix.

If I can afford it, usually I get the original assuming we are talking about MISB.

Most of my G1 figures are usually reissue because the original are too expensive.

If the Reissues are an exact identical to the original meaning no color, material, or mold alteration, then I get the reissue.

For these 2 reasons I cast my vote for the reissue. Their is just something to be said for opening up a brand new Transformer.
