Pixel Dan Reviews Rio Blast

Recommended Posts

Ouch. When Pixel Dan has more than a couple major beefs, you know it's gotta be bad.

Fat-boy armour continues. Blah.

Also, there's no such thing as "chomping at the bit," you idiot bio writer. It's champing. Does no one proof read this stuff? Oh wait, TG is approaching George Lucas levels of "never tell him no" so yeah... there's my answer.

It kinda looks like they had a bunch of Count Marzo heads left over and decided to manipulate them to resemble Rio Blast.

He doesn't look horrible to me, but he definitely doesn't look like what I pictured a Rio Blast MOTUC figure would look like. Nostalgia would be the only reason I'd pick up this figure as I wore out the original back in the day.

Count Marzo, huh?

Never noticed that...I'll have to take another look at the video.

His head is to stylized. Whoever sculpted it took too many liberties with creativity and pretty much said to hell with any vintage cues. It's one thing to improve upon the vintage head, but they completely reinvented the entire thing. They've done this with quite a few heads over the years, most recent is Eldor... another one they dropped the ball on.

I was exaggerating, but mcm touched on what I was getting at: it's a very stylized head that seems a bit out of place, much the way Count Marzo's head sculpt is/was.

This picture is mostly what did it (hair cut, shave the chin, beef up the 'stache and you've got it! :D ).

I think the same guy who did the Marzo, Jitsu, Bow, Flipshot, etc. is the same guy who did Rio's head. The hyper-windblown hair and exaggerated jawline is a dead giveaway. The guys got skill, and makes a nice head, but his style would be better suited for a different line with that kind of style.

"Ibentmymanthing" on the .org makes his own heads and sells them. On ebay he's IBMMT. He made a Rio Blast head that is a better interpretation of a vintage style head, only augmented. I bought one and painted it up already... looking forward to trying it out on Rio when I get him. If it looks good I'll post some pics. :)

I like most of the figure, I'm glad they went a different route with the head, the vintage one looks like He-Man with a 'stache, lol. I'll display mine with all his crap closed, I may even drill a hole in his chest piece so the peg "pops" closed. I need to dig out my stations and see if I can cast the gun arm and give it to him.

I expected the "fat" body, as they already told us that they were already tooled and we wouldn't see the fix till next years figs.
