Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles Movie Review

i liked it. sure there is a bunch of stuff that they could have EASILY improved on, but overall i found it to be enjoyable. if i were to list all the stuff i thought could have been improved on, i would probably sound like a whiney Mirage purist. instead, i'll list the stuff that i enjoyed. that said, I do feel that the story was the weakest part and can easily be improved on moving forward.

i enjoyed the fact that the turtles actually seemed like teenagers! the action scenes were really good and it's about time we finally got some impressive fight scenes. while the origin was not what i wanted it to be, it works and i appreciated the story of their youth. i would like to see a sequel and when they do make it, i hope that they improve on what they already have. they have plenty of room for it and the feedback to make #2 a lot better than this one and still maintain the new story and characters.

with the help of the new IDW comic and Nick toon (which are both fantastic!) i have come to understand that the TMNT as i knew them back in the 80's is no more. they have grown to be so much more than what that comic offered. the turtles and their tale have become ever evolving. the new movie is yet another example of that. i noticed a bunch of nods to the original comic, the original cartoon, and the original movie. there was obviously an equal amount of "new" stuff thrown in there too. everyone knows that this is no academy award winner, but i believe it to be a lot better than what the critics are rating it.

just an fyi...I think GotG had much better writing and I chose it as my #1 summer flick. I was really hoping the turtles would have filled that spot, but it didn't work out that way. maybe the next movie.

It wasnt terrible, just unremarkable. And most of that comes from the stupid plot/villain plans.

The characterizations and performances (yes, even Megan Fox) are fine, but having all the characters origins intertwined was pretty weak.

As expected, the visual fx sequences go overly long and get boring fast.

again, I didnt hate it, but I also didnt like it. Meh. Even with its weak points, at least it wasnt Transformers level stupid.

I agree with all of this.

Yep, I saw it, wasn't really planning to. I went with my expectations low and I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, this movie gave me pretty much all I expect from a Ninja Turtles movie. Going in, My favorite one was the original and like this one, there was room for improvement in that one too. Didn't care for the second or third TMNT movies at all...even as a kid I thought they were sub-par. But really, I don't think I expect any more from a TMNT movie than what this one gave me. And that's fine.

The origin tweaks didn't bother me. Back in the day, the cartoon and movie origins were slightly different, in the new IDW comic (a pretty good read), they change the origin yet again. It almost doesn't matter. But HOW did they get mutated? Was Splinter a rat first or a man? Who cares! As long as, in the end, you have 4 talking turtles (just don't make them aliens).

I did like all the nods to the old cartoon. Sneaking in "Tonight I dine on Turtle soup" was nice.

The humor and action were not as Bayed up as I was expecting. We did not have to sit through 55 minutes of a city falling down and I think the crude humor was at a minimum (I was in a drive in and audio was spotty at times so I may have missed something). Guess we have to thank the fact that he was just the producer and not the director.

Some good turtle moments like when Splinter bribed them with pizza. That seemed like something that could have come out of the old cartoon. I also liked a lot of the action, particularly the downhill snow battle, they found some good ways make the turtles fight as a team.

I disagree with Jay C about the special effects, I thought they were fine. These days, you can put any kind of creature onscreen.

The amount of knives on Shredder was way over the top. If you're any kind of fan of the original toon, "over the top" shouldn't bother you.

Megan Fox was perfectly adequate.

Yeah, like i say, pleasantly surprised. Not better than GOTG, but a good Turtle movie.

It looks like this is another disappointing movie like all these Transformers from recent years. Yesterday I finally saw the new Godzilla and I think the movie lacks in comparison with the old Japanese Godzilla movies...
