2014 SDCC - 'Marvel TV' Panel

"Netflix picked up 13-episode seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage series and a Defenders miniseries. Already in production in NYC, the Daredevil series was written by Drew Goddard, who stepped aside in March to direct Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man spinoff Sinister Six. On May 24, Steven S. DeKnight took over as executive producer/showrunner for Daredevil, which will be released on the streaming service in 2015."

I admit, I was more than a little surprised at the first episode of Daredevil. This is a really great show.

Cox OWNS Daredevil now. The physicality, the moodiness, but without coming off as a borderline manic-depressive like most of your "gritty" heroes do nowadays. And frankly, if he can pull off the character while still wearing that ridiculous "temp-suit," then he deserves all the credit he can get.

Also loved Deborah Woll as Karen. She manages to come off smoking hot, but not in the tired CW-esque "everyone in the world is a 23-year-old sports illustrated model" way.

Especially love that they don't shy away from the fact that this isn't just another street-level crime story, its a street-level crime story in a comic book universe. They not only accept it, they embrace it. (The line where the one guy gives credit to superheroes for improving business for organized crime was absolutely inspired!)

I just watched the first episode and I will be tuning in again.

Not sure if my wife will be joining me for this one, though. I think Ben Affleck turned her off to the character.

I just finished watching the entire first(hopefully) season and I love it. I agree with everything Mako said, the actors are really good in their respective roles but Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio just kill it, they both take their roles and own them. I love the setting, the streets, the buildings and how alive the city felt(at least the day shots). The fight scenes were also great with the sheer brutality of bones protruding from the skin, which leads me to another thing that I loved how DD was brutal without actually killing anyone. Even the slow episodes were really well written and acted and gave the characters room to breathe. This is a superhero show so obviously there are gonna be easter eggs and boy were there, without delving too much: Gladiator, Stilt-Man, Stan Lee cameo picture, Kun Lun, The Hand, Elektra, The Chaste, Roxxon, Van Lunt, Hulk vs Abomination. Overall a truly great series and a solid addition to MCU, and superhero/comic adaptations; a couple of months back I thought Agents of SHIELD introducing the Inhumans was as good as it was gonna get with comic book shows then this arrived and I changed my mind, I give this series a 9 to 9.5.

Two episodes in here, and im struggling with it. The characters/performances are fine...great fight scenes, but few and far between loooong, self-indulgent, and predictable dialogues. There is a lot of air and pacing problems that most likely comes with being a tv show that doesnt have to play by the rules of a conventional show but should. i had the same problem with netflix's arrested development season. you could easily shave 12 minutes from each episode and it would be better for it...at least tighter and more fluid.

I guess what im trying to say without sounding too over-critical: Im kinda bored.

And Im not one of those superhero fans that needs to see his hero vulnerable ALL THE TIME. I know he's still finding his footing at this point, but my how much time is wasted milking every rib punch and missed connection. I get it. He can be hurt. Tighten it up. You know what makes this harder to swallow? That this is the same universe where a non-powered hero like Black Widow can calculate a jump off of Cap's shield to catch an alien space craft traveling over 70 mph and not miss, or get her arms ripped out of the socket, or even wince in discomfort.

Man, you really don't like Black Widow, huh? Maybe she should show up in DD. They used to date...

I have to keep reminding myself this is in the same universe too. It's much more gritty, less polished than the rest of the live action Marvel U. which is fine with me. I would not call it "hard to swallow". I like the fact that it seems so far removed from all the alien weirdness (so far...I say there's no chance DD doesn't show up in Captain America: Civil Cluster F.........I mean, War....) This is how DC should be separating live action Batman from the rest of the DCU, IMO.

I'm 3 episodes in and it is a bit slow at times but I'll stick with it and watch the whole thing. I think you are right in that there are some pacing issues, some scenes that could be cut out. But then I look at the flip side: You could have a choice between watching a movie with the deleted scenes already added in, or watching the movie with commercials. I'll take the deleted scenes. The fights (when they happen) are great and I love that opening sequence.

Oh wow I don't know what to to tell you if you are bored 2 episodes in then this might not be the show for you, especially since I consider the second episode one of the strongest in the series. Also the Man of Steel's real mom with the Kingpin, who said DC and Marvel can't have crossovers?

I guess i'll stick to things like "better call saul" if i want effective pacing, directing and perfect use of air, suspense, humor...But if Daredevil is a 9.5 im just totally lost if were talking general tv

as far as superhero shows go, i havent been bored with "the flash" so far

If someone gave me the option to watch a workable cut of "The Hobbit" with the condition that I had to sit thru and hour of "Chicken Tonight" commercials, Id take that deal.

To each their own I guess, I loved the show and found very little wrong with it.

I'll go you one step further. Hype has the opposite effect on me that it has on most people, so I came into this thing expecting to hate it. Instead, I'd call this one of the better superhero shows out there. Certainly better than Arrow, and if I put it up against The Flash . . . well I'd hate to have to live on the difference.

Yeah I feel they went overboard with the marketing on this one building on hype, there were some cool ones but at one point I had to stop clicking on every single thing because I felt my enthusiasm waning. I'm doing the same thing with Avengers I felt like I watched enough and I'll just patiently wait for the movie to come out, I mean just today I watched the new trailer for Terminator Genyssis and they spoiled a major plot point which is bad enough but to me it's a crappy direction to take the film franchise.

I finished season 1 of Daredevil. I can't put it above the Flash but that last episode was very satisfying. I loved every minute of D'onofrio's Kingpin. The DD costume sort of reminds me of the *gasp* 90's DD look but it works for me.

Now I want an action figure.

As someone who's not a huge Punisher fan, I'm looking forward to this. I think he'll be a great foil for ol' DD.

In other news, "AKA Jessica Jones" is now just "Jessica Jones". I could have posed a link but you don't care enough to read it. Trust me, you don't. It spends five paragraphs telling you what I just told you in one sentence. Take heart: 6,055 posts means you can trust me with minor news about a D-list character :D

I've gotten through 3 episodes so far of Daredevil.

The fight scene in episode 2 was stellar!

So far its lived up to the hype I've heard about it.

Hoping to finish up the series this weekend.

Still not better than the Flash for me, but then he's also my favorite hero!
