Who here is going to buy a Classics He-man?

Recommended Posts

So it seems like the new MOTU Classics have stirred up more than a little contraversy on the message boards (man, the guy at Topless Robot sounded like he was burying his own father... :( ). I've got a simple question: who here is at least planning to buy the new He-man when he comes out in October? Futhermore, to make an interesting topic, who isn't? Why or why not?

I'm definitely going to buy this guy from the stupidly-named Mattycollector.com site; I've previously stated my dislike for the basic He-man that came out with the otherwise stellar 2002X line. Though I wouldn't have minded an added action feature, this new figure looks awesome and I don't mind blending figures from different lines as long as they have a common scale and theme-- you should see the collection of characters hanging out in my wife's Swedish Chef Muppet Kitchen!

Now all I need are some 1/12th scale elephants...

Im gonna pass. With everyone loving the 2002 line, I feel like Mattel went a different direction just to be able to sell Heman and the normal cast characters again. If Mattel truly wanted to create a collectors line they would have expanded the 2002 line via their online store. To basically reissue the same figures from the 80s (but this time with articulation) is kinda lame. Ive done that route. I really feel like this line wont make it a year and then everyone will be complaining again and Ill be out $160 or whatever Ive spent.

I also feel like after the 5th figure if the line is doing ok we will see Heman Version 2. Thats nothing to look forward too. I like having a few figures at a time to get. Not just 1.

I'll definately buy one, maybe two (always wanted to give one to my son, but my daughter may like it...when she finally arrives in October). All the hate for this line doesn't bother me, just less trouble I'll have getting one for myself.

I've been a member of these boards for over 5 years and if there's one thing I learned its that there is a lot of negativity surrounding most things. However, for every 1 person that dislikes something, 5 other people like it. Whether they're members of the board or not. The positive people just tend to stay quite and let the doubters make themselves feel better by bashing everything.

This line will probably flourish and maybe even make it to the store much like the DTC Joes. Hopefully it will last longer. GI Joe is a stronger brand and Hasbro knew they could redo GI Joe one more time, and this time actually improved the brand.

I actually agree with Starscream though on them making other He-Mans. But since this is a collectors line what they may do is just re-release the same He-Man periodically without breaking thier 1 unique figure per month flow (IE: Release 2 in one month, with 1 figure being He-Man all over again). That way it helps the people that get in the game late.

Congratulations! We had our first child, a boy, just four months ago. I never thought my toy-hunting excursions would ever take me into the infants aisle but I'm discovering that their stuff can be every bit as cool in its own way! Of course, when it comes to sharing my favorite toy lines, I think you can never start them too early... :D

I'll definitely be buying He-Man. Masters of the Universe has been my first love from the time I was a little kid. I only wish I'd known this would be happening because then I wouldn't have wasted money on some other things that I liked but didn't like as much as MOTU.

I'll always like the 2002 stuff the best (for me it was perfect), but MOTUC is cool enough to rope me in. The good thing about this new line for 2002 people is that it might lead some people to sell off their 2002 stuff because MOTUC is their dream line and what they've always wanted.

I'm definitely planning on starting this line, and seeing where it goes. If I'm pleased with he-man, I'll pick up Beast Man, and then so on. I love the He-man characters, but I still have a good portion of my original fgures and they just aren't as great to pose or play with anymore. They're pretty small and just don't look as nice on display as I imagine these figures are going to look.

Some interesting news from He-man.org is that two of the 12 2009 figures will be characters never available as figures before and two will be figures not offered in the 200x line.

A question I have about this line is will Mattel continually produce these figures? It would seem smart to attempt to at least make sure that He-man and Skeletor figures are always available. That way, folks are always able to buy directly from Mattel, helping to make sure that the compnay making the toys are the ones getting the money, and not second hand dealers.

Maybe every few months, Mattel could restock figures that have sold out.

I'm certainly buying He-Man, to start. I want to see if he's worth 20 bucks. If not, I'm stopping there. If so, then I'll get Skeletor when he comes out, and perhaps certain others. I was planning to go all out for these but, after seeing what they are planning, I'm not terribly interested in bascially the exact same figure with new articulation. It would be cool to see some sort of little additions here and there....but seriously, they look so similar to the originals that I almost couldn't tell Zodac apart.

Anyhow, like I said, He-Man and Skeletor will be good for the nostaglia. However, I'm gona wait and see when I get He-Man in my hands. Who knows? My mind might totally change when I get 'em in my hands.

I don't know, so far I'm not impressed with the articulation - they kind of look like DC Direct figures. I was hoping for more ball joints, etc.

We'll see, I haven't made up my mind yet.

I may get them since my son is really getting into heman. I just hate that before the line even comes out theres a figure you cant get.

BTW is there any difference from the original and soon to be current Zodac? Other than articulation.

Does anyone know how long they will be available after they initially offered? I want to wait and see what some other figures look like, like Skeletor and TrapJaw, before I decide if I want to start ANOTHER line. But if I wait too long, they will take down the He-Man and other figures before I decide and then I'm missing those figures before I even start collecting them.

Skeletor will be debuting in the next issue of ToyFare magazine, so that's relatively soon. He-Man doesn't go on sale until October 31, so by then we'll know what the first five figures look like (plus Zodac, who's coming sometime in 2009) because Stratos will be shown sometime in the near future. That should give you a pretty good idea by the time He-Man, the first regular figure, is released.

I'd always hoped for a boy first, then I got to thinking that girls are always attached to thier daddy and boys are attached to thier mommy. So this daddy is going to introduce He-Man and GI Joe to his little girl whether mommy likes it or not.

Pretty soon Duke and Roadblock are going to be having tea parties with Hulk Hogan and Man-At-Arms.

I plan on getting a He-Man, and maybe a Beast Man. Something about him doesn't look quite right. Mer-Man looks awesome and Zodak isn't too bad looking either, even if he bares a striking resemblance to his 1983 predecessor. I'd like to see Stratos and Skeletor before I make a firm commitment to the line, but I will get a He-Man.

I can understand why people aren't liking this look. The 200x series redesigned much of the universe to make it more up to date but I don't think it looked better necessarily. Essentially it was the same character with a slightly difference paint scheme. Articulation was still non-existent, as it was in 1983. The line looked different sure, but I was disappointed. Marvel Legends was hitting and blowing everything out of the water and yet we still had limited movement statues. Many of the figures were forced into poses and were unable to stand any other way. These figures look like they can move more freely. And when you think about it, this is the same thing Hasbro is doing with their classics Transformers. They're taking the original character and making it all over again with modern technology. I love it and think the design is great.

I believe that a link to the new hi-res pics belongs here. Yeah, I think these sure help new He-man's case IMHO.

He-Man's arm bands are gray on that figure, but in other photos they're orange.

I'm hoping for orange on the final release because that's what his belt is and gray looks odd despite the fact his armor is that color. He'll look awesome either way, though.

I guess technically either are correct since Mattel never bothered to paint the bands on the original He-man or Battle Amor H' for that matter (Thunder Punch had red ones to go with his harness), but he had orange or gold ones in all the old art and 'toons.
