Episode VII: 'The Force Awakens' Discussion Thread

I hope we get an minimum of two notes per month from JJ. Because I can't see that getting old really fast

Another thing that is going to get really old: The word "leaked".

are we chest deep yet?

I'd say balls-deep at this point...

You know how those Kardashian phonies stage events to be "leaked" for the publicity? That's going to be this movie.

Hey, I'm fine with JJ Abrams and at this point I have seen or heard nothing to make me believe that we need to be worried...no one knows jack about the final product (which is going to be the only thing that matters when it's all said and done). But the hype on this thing is going to be out of control. I partly blame myself. I need to discipline myself better to just stop paying attention. Look at nothing, read nothing, comment on nothing until I see the first trailer. If only I were that strong...

Possibly the lead role...

http://www.businessinsider.com/john-boyega-lead-in-star-wars-episode-vii-2014-6

"John Boyega's character arc being similar to Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. This new report claims that John Boyega's Tatooine desert rat, friend to Daisy Ridley's Tatooine street orphan, does not start the movie off as a Jedi or a Padawan. He will slowly be pulled into this world, with echoes of Luke's own journey as a Jedi Knight."

Echoes, poetry...blah. This is killing any excitement that was building for me. It all sounds rather boring. And you're telling me the rebels couldn't re-establish a new Republic in thirty years?! I'm not sure I like where this is going already...

The article also says this:

A few days without mention of Star Wars: Episode VII feels like an eternity, but Latino Review is remedying that with a new rumor story full of possible plot details for J.J. Abrams' sequel,

It also mentions how there will be a female villain and that there's a 50% chance she will be a Sith. WOW! So they're telling us that she either WILL....or WON'T be a Sith! When will we be treated to more bold predictions?

Bottom line is, no one knows jack about this story yet.

maybe not, but "more of the same" is probably a pretty safe bet.

Yeah, I know the skeptic will point to the prequels as a worst case scenario...it's the easy target. But I'd argue we don't even know enough to make a "safe bet". Because based on what?

There are actually two things we do know and it is in regards to those prequels:

1. The guy who had 100% control of and final say in them will have little to no involvement this time around.

2. The guy who DOES have control this time around has shown no love for (or has even given mention to) the prequels in any way. And if I'm wrong there, please post a link...maybe I missed it.

I hate to try to sound like I'm defending the movie all the time because I don't know any more than anyone else. It might not be good but I doubt it will be like the prequels.

It all comes down to MOICHENDISING (to steal from Mel Brooks in Spaceballs) and he was RIGHT! That's what it is, that's what it comes down to with Star Wars. It's a multi-BILLION dollar empire built over 30+ years!

That's another reason I hope this desert planet doesn't turn out to be Tatooine again. I feel like we've seen all the "new" that needs to be seen from this place. New alien species, droids, monsters...just smacks of a merchandising move. "We want it to be the same as the original SW...except they already have all the toys from those 10 times over. What else can we cram in there?"

Wonder if the McQuarrie estate gets anything from this kinda stuff? probably not...one time deal. If only he knew a completely different company and production crew would be mining his old/passed over work

I'm sure all his work done for SW belongs to Lucasfilm for future use. Sorry, I saw this pic and it reminded me of this post.

I fear that SW has crippled any future Indiana Jones adventures with Ford by this incident

I thought the incident that crippled any future Indiana Jones adventures with Ford was called Kingdom of the Crystal Skull @indy@

Crystal Skull Worldwide Box Office: $786,636,033

Money talks...I mean, that's why we're making more SW, right?

I thought this was pretty good. If the trailer for the OT was made the way today's trailers are made, featofstrength would never go to see it :D

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/star-wars-trilogy-trailer-guardians-galaxy-style/

The humor is too natural, Carrie Fisher's nakedness is plot justified, neither Han or Luke spend much time shirtless(okay, Bacta Tank), and no shot of Yoda repositioning his nuts.

Also, the video is prefaced "suitable for lovers of all things 70s"...the maker does realize that only the first SW movie was released in the 70s, right? (pushes up nerd glasses)

Oh...and that Disney logo above the title...I know its a fan made thing, and could be seen as helping to cushion the blow...but I'll never be able to take it...the stupid castle, it's kiddie font...shudder...

My sources tell me that all these conflicting injury reports are circulating to cover up that Harrison Ford was killed on set, and that they plan to finish up his part with CGI Han and not tell anyone.
