Funny, I thought SW was big enough now that you don't have to be afraid to wear it in public. I wear my SW shirts to the store, wear them to pick my son up from school. I even call my son "Obi" instead of his real name, in front of strangers, at school, at work, even my coworkers and family and friends call him Obi, we don't live in 1990 anymore where it was considered nerdy to like SW.. that's what the prequels helped do, they brought it back into the mainstream again, same with the CW show, not once in recent years have I had someone scoff at me and say "you're one of them" maybe it's something else about you that might be getting this reaction, cause I highly doubt it's the shirt.

I also feel that its someone's attitude and how they let it affect them and respond to things. I consider myself a geeky person, I have a big nose, I have black geeky framed glasses(that I've had for over 10 years, not just recently because BigBagTheory made them popular again), I wear my geeky shirts, have my Chewbacca messenger bag, carting around my son calling him Obi, jumping into my car with the R2 cookie bowl in the hatchback window, with my "You got the touch", GI Joe, Serenity, duel of the fates and R2D2 ringtones and text message notices on my phone, but I don't let that bother me and if someone sees me as a geek, let them, because I see no difference in me wearing my SW track jacket and Boba Fett beanie outside than the jock down the street wearing his underarmor shirt and track jacket with his nike shoes and track pants.

Joe, if you're like me my friend, you just get to a point where you simply don't care what other people think. I have my own personal, sentimental reasons why I like something, just like the critics also have their reasons why they don't. I think the thing is to have respect for others with differing opinions, to debate reasonably and objectively without the snarky, self-important adult variations of the classic Kindergarten-playground mentality: "What you like is stupid, so YOU'RE stupid!!" It gets old and tiresome really fast.

Very interesting article.

It's always good to hear an insider straight up admit something like this: "By that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.” I'm not just talking about with SW here, but ALL the countless big franchise movies that followed. ROTJ was a trail blazer, I guess.

I'm not going to start harping on ROTJ because I've always liked it and I still do. Even with Death Star II and Ewoks and Han living happily ever after.

Maybe with Lucas out and Kurtz back in, they can remake ROTJ the way he wanted it. Only instead of--what, a couple of months?--elapsing between ESB and ROTJ, make it 30 years. Luke and Leia could theoretically have spent that much time tracking down Jabba (of course by this time the slave bikini will not be as memorable). Then they can go with the ending they wanted and the Han death that everyone (but me) seemed to want.

I didnt intend it to harp on Return of the Jedi, more on the handling of the jedi in general...Luke walking off alone “like Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns.” - This is how jedi should always have been depicted...that time has passed and theres nothing we can do about it, but this is how jedi in the new films could, nay, should be depicted.

yeah, Kurtz's plan sounds better. I like ROTJ, but it does have its flaws. And Empire is hands down the best of the StarWars movies.

Man.. if we could have gotten a ROTJ that was like EMPIRE... that would have been epic.

Made four or five movies in the 90's (along with a producer credit on Good Will Hunting) and four or five from 2000 to 2010. Along with writing other movies and comics, the guy had a lot of "Geek Cred".
