G.I.Joe Question & Answers With Hasbro

This question confused me a little:

"TNI: How many waves of "G.I.Joe Vs Cobra" figures will be released in 2009 before switching over to movie product?"

Did I miss something or is JvC making a comeback?

Some of the pre 25th anni figures (with no accessories) are being repackaged in a card that is similar to the current cards. However, these re-release jvc items are for stores like family dollar.

Actually the name of the line is GIJoe vs. Cobra. We still basically call them 25th anniversary but technically the 25th anniversary tag line ended last year when GIJoe became older then 25. Thats why the 25th anniversary logo no longer appears on the current product. In the PR released by Hasbro during Toy Fair they returned to the name GIJoe vs. Cobra even though they don't put it on the packaging. Confusing I know.

The figures were found at a store and DO have accessories. But as JayC said, the outside of the 5 packs, NONE of the GI Joe stuff shipped to retailers was ever labeled "25th Anniversary" and most marketing material refer to them as "GI Joe vs cobra"

While I know 3 waves of singles don't sound like a lot, but let's crunch numbers! We'll have at least one more wave in stores by Christmas (reportedly a repaint wave, like what Star Wars gets). So after wave 7 08 (Zartan/Airborne/Glenda), there will be at least, AT LEAST, four waves between November and when movie product hits next summer.

At an average of 6 figures per wave, that is 24 single figures.

But let's not forgot Comic Packs, which after wave 6 08, we'll get...let's be conservative...3 more waves before the movie switchover. At an average of 3 sets per wave, that is 6 figures per wave, for 18 additional figures.

So you're looking at 42 figures between November and next summer spread across singles and comic packs. And that's not counting vehicles, multipacks or exclusives, which could add another dozen figures to that tally.

So three more waves in '09. Is wave 11 the last one for '08? Or will there be more this year that we don't know about? If wave 11 is it for this year then we can only count on about 18 more single cards before switching to the movie line. My guess is probably about 1/2 of those 18 will be repaints of some kind and/or new versions of Duke, SE and CC. So I would guess about 9 new characters. Of course we will probably get a handful more in comic packs and multipacks but just for fun anyone want to start guessing who they will be? If I had to pick 9 more (and only 9), I would say:

Jinx

Cover Girl

Zap

Doctor Mindbender

Zaranna

Zandar

Dialtone

Airtight

Footloose

At least if i HAD to pick 9 more before the end of the run, that's who I'd pick

Your numbers sound pretty good. So a pretty likely number of 42 figures. I would say about 1/2 of them will be junk repaints, weird cobra troops, Dukes, CCs and SE's. So id guess about 21 worthwhile figures... at least i'd hope... So if I had to pick 21?

Jinx

Cover Girl

Zap

Doctor Mindbender

Zaranna

Zandar

Dialtone

Airtight

Footloose

Recondo

Ripcord

Lifeline

Sci-Fi

Wetsuit

Leatherneck

Low-Light

Iceberg

MonkeyWrench

Thrasher

Tunnel Rat
