The ‘Transformers’ Animated Series: The Creators Explain Why the 80s Cartoon Was More Than Meets the Eye

Misconception: Huge box office earnings mean the movies are good.

Fact: Modern movie goers are mindless drones who don't mind paying through the nose to sit in an AC filled theatre, stuff their faces with junk food, and watch visual effects and T & A.

Hollywood knows this, Michael Bay knows this.

Don't mean to be sarcastic, but like it's really what they were thinking about.28 yrs ago when they killed Prime and about 2/3 of the original Autobots. For millions of years they survived every skirmish they had with the deceptions, and they all died in one battle in the movie... More like insulting the audience's intelligence.

In reality Transformers G1 was/is better than all the other iterations in Transformers history.

lol, sure it was..

I have to agree that the toys were better.

Many of the toys were great, but I can't stomach the cartoon anymore; but then I could say the same for most 80's cartoons.

That's because were watching them with an adult perspective now.

I use to love watching Super Friends in the day but most of them are unwatchable now.

^^To an extent that's true, but I can still enjoy many 90's cartoons bc they are much better written than their 80's counterparts. Cartoons of my childhood are far too cheesy.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you stokovor...the voices and characterizations are what made the original show fun. Does simple nostalgia play a factor? Of course, but I've also watched it recently, and it's still fun for me to watch some thirty years later. Now the unfortunate animation in some episodes is another matter entirely. (lol)

I believe you are misunderstanding me.what I meant by "characterization" had nothing to do with voices and personalities.

With that I agree with you in that they created something memorable.

But untill season 3, thee was no character development, no real movement in who and what those characters. And while season 3 tried to give us some, they continued to dial the clock back at the end of each story.

In reality Transformers Beast wars and beast Machines was far better written, produced, had better characterization then the original G1 had.

No way Jose...

G1 was far better than Beast Wars and Beast Machines was the worst of them all...

sorry friend but you are way off.

this isint a matter of taste, or liking one more then the other.

sure, G1 is still pretty much my personal fave, but G1 had low production values, very little to zero characterization, very simple writing, poor continuity or story impact.

Beast wars blew G1 away in all those categories.

Beast Machines did the same and did so by telling a very dark, adult sifi story.
