I'm getting this set mainly for Alpine, though I really wish that he had come with better accessories (longer rope, classic rifle) and the MASS device piece. CC and the Trooper are both good, finally a proper CC, now Hasbro can stop making them, and armybuilder blueshirts are always good.

Screaming Duke though.... UMMMMM.... that loses me completely, he looks like someone just sucker-punched him at the same time as crotch-kicking him.

What a waste of plastic, and still no Recondo, Covergirl, Ripcoard, Lifeline, Lowlight.......

Still, best of the sets.

Duke is missing a bomb with a timer that was attached to the Statue of Liberty. They should have included that if they're including (gasp) a video camera. Alpine looks pretty cool. I'm not sure about the CC mask, that's alittle too much chrome. I'm sure the package will have a warning sticker 'DO NOT TAKE CC OUT IN DAYLIGHT!" LOL!!

So only four episodes plus movie opening sequence? Okay, they couldn't give us five episodes?

I too am getting it for the MASS device and Alpine.

The bomb is in the pack.......and I think that is the best CC to date. I already have the DvD sets from Rhino so the DvDs don't excite me that much. It is a cool addition though........Alpine looks cool enough. Count me in.

I don't remember.. but was the CLAW always that cheap looking?

Im digging the shiney face mask, but not sure if its enough to make me buy another CC

Alpine is nice, but something wrong is going on with his crotch/legs area.... I think they chose a bad crotch piece or something

And I don't care about the Duke or the Cobra Trooper

Although the bomb is in the set, shouldn't Duke have a smoking bazooka?

While all the episodes on the DVD are memorable, I don't necessarily agree with them being 'best'. Was there actually a vote I don't remember, or is Hasbro pulling the 'chosen by the fans' thing out of their collective behinds?

I have a MAJOR issue with putting on the opening sequence of the movie. I would rather they had another full episode or ditched the episodes and put the full movie on there as they intended to. As-is, it's fairly obvious they included it to justify not changing the pack after they pulled the movie. Lame!

Ah well. I like all the figures, even Duke #673 and Cobra Commander #682. I wish they'd included an actual CLAW, since they're already making it, rather than a cheap knock-off looking thing based on it... but I can live.

Everything after the introduction to the movie was crap anyway. You're better off.

I think that claw is exactly the same...As an owner of the original, it didn't really make sense to me to have landing gears on it, when the guy would be landing mere inches off the ground that way. :P

EDIT: Actually, going back and checking, it really does look like a musket, not a bazooka. You can see he's holding the handle, and the stock is on the inside of his arm... wrong position for a bazooka. The arguement could be made that the director was trying to acheive a forced perspective shot, with an oversized gun barrel that then retracted and shrank for the close-up on Duke, and that was misinterpreted by the animators as a wide-mouthed gun, like an old-style musket.

Yeah, like all the other vehicles, this is the exact same mold as the 80s, except while other vehicles have had things added to improve them, this thing has had things removed for the same effect.

The landing gear was stupid if there was a human pilot. It only made sense if the drone/bomb was being carted, and the thing was running on remote control.

These look pretty good. Alpine being the best IMO and the chrome mask on CC looks pretty cool also. The only thing on Alpine that looks "off" is the protruding shoulder pad lookin' thingies? @hmmm@ The original had the guards on his shoulders but this looks more like he's wearing a football players shoulder pads. Of course...I KNOW it's due to the construction of them now, that it's being done this way, but it is kinda distracting, but nonetheless a very good looking figure of Alpine.

I like the "screaming" Duke...for a change up anyway, something different. I'm still annoyed though that they can't make a decent helmet for any of these figures, something that actually FITS properly and completely, and of course the paint scheme is horrendous, bright and boring, but they had to skimp in this department for "budget restraints" otherwise they'd have to set a MSRP at 35-40 bucks.

It's a better than average set though, so I'm happy. Picky..but happy. ;)

I wish they's actually make the weird obscure supporting characters as toys. Double darn it! I want a wiper (viper) with sqeegee and bucket! Hector Ramirez would be awesome too! Shipwreck's mermaid girlfriend...that creepy weirdo from that toy island...that old crazy kelp harvesting Cobra trooper stuck at the bottom of the sea...so many! Yeah, I'm sure you think I'm nuts...

The CLAW doubles as a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which can carry a bomb (along with the rest of its weapons) instead of a human pilot, so it needs the landing gear. Personally I think that is very cool, considering they didn't even have UAVs back then. Good thinking on Hasbro's part.

I don't know, most of those characters were kind of lame. The mermaid (Mara I think?) would be cool because she was a Cobra agent. Other good characters to use would be Sparks (I know we got a recent GIJOECC figure but that was RAH, and not really cartoon accurate), that female Cobra Strato-Viper (I think Raven was her name), and the Crimson Guard Cadet.

Anybody care to give a brief synopsis of what each of these episodes were about? I don't remember any of these just by the titles.

From Wikipedia.com, and heavily edited because the person who wrote these was pretty bad at it...

"Skeletons in the Closet" Lady Jaye receives a letter that she has inherited a Scottish castle. Unknown to her, it is Castle Destro, and she stumbles on Destro's family reunion, which involves sacrifice to a supernatural creature that lies slumbering beneath the castle.

"The Viper is Coming" Barbecue gets phone calls from a man who calls himself "The Viper" who seems to be a Cobra agent giving G.I. Joe information. Naturally, the Viper's messages bring G.I. Joe to Cobra areas causing unrest to Destro, Major Bludd and the Crimson Twins.

"My Favorite Things" Serpentor begins collecting artifacts from his former lives to gain power, and Leatherneck is poisoned trying to stop him. Wet-Suit and Lifeline risk their lives trying to recover an antidote from Serpentor's blood.

"The Phantom Brigade" Cobra Commander and the Baroness hire a Gypsy to summon three ghosts; a Roman Centurion, a Mongolian warrior and a WWI American ace, to destroy G.I. Joe. However, Cobra Commander relieves Baroness of her duties after the ghosts deliver on their part. With the Joes' backs against the wall, Baroness tells them to get the Roman coin, wedding ring and heart-shaped locket from Cobra Commander and bury them so the ghosts will be no more.

I'd disagree that it looks like a musket, but I'll agree that on inspection, it's definitely not a bazooka. It's clearly a laser blast that hits Bludd's CLAW. The rifle that Duke's holding has no shaping/tapering like the normal lasers- it looks like one long barrel. That combined with the near-black color (traditional for Joe bazookas, while Joe rifles are tan) made me think it was a 'zook.

That scene was so much cooler when I thought Duke had plugged a shell into Bludd's back...

Duke's gun, I think is one of the "standard" (ie. Snow Job) laser rifles they all used, but with a musket style barrel (I think because we are looking down the barrel in the scene). But if you watch the scene, he's holding the gun so the barrel is on the outside of his arm (he raises he hands to take off with the jetpack and the back of the gun is to the right of his arm and extends below it), so it COULD be a bazooka.

The C.L.A.W. WAS improved, the same way the Flight Pod and R.A.M. where. Minor modifications. In the C.L.A.W.'s case (as with the R.A.M.) it was primarily the removal of the landing gear and the inclusion of "real" handlebars in place of the front landing gear. It also looks like the missiles were moved under the wings more.

If we got a camera, how come no Crimson Guard (in parachate) to punch it? One thing I like about the intro is that a LOT of Cobras actually DIE....wonder if anyone noticed? There is a point at which a Flight Pod piloted by a Viper gets blasted and Gung-Ho in a Sky Hawk goes rushing throught the smoke. It sure didn't look like the guy bailed. Or the guy that Snake Eyes kicked out of HIS pod. Or all those guys on the Morays that were blown up by the Conquests. Or even all the support personnel on the Cobra ship that Duke blew up.

I like that they show Hawk firing a LASER RIFLE (its the Snow Job kind, of course, which is, even in the toyline, a laser rifle, but also the fact they don't use anything else in a cartoon) yet shell casing are being ejected in rapid fire. And one thing I always wondered about...how did they control the jet packs? Telepathy?

As for the episodes themselves. how about the (somewhat inevitable) which 4 would YOU pick?
