Hasbro To Deploy New G.I.Joe: Rise Of Cobra Toys

Ouch, it looks like pricing is going up, up and away!!!!

So, let us break this down.

Basic figures:

Standard new price. We've seen a bunch already. There should be some duds and gems like with any line.

12" figures:

2 prices. Ninja electronics add $7 to the price? I personally don't care for 12" figures, but I'm sure there will be fans.

Vehicles:

So we have 4 price points. My biggest concern is the class A. We've already seen some pics. So basically we are now getting 1 small vehicle w/driver and sound gimmick for the price of 2 with 2 drivers from earlier. Not a great trade off in my opinion. I know this price point will do well because of the "perceived" value, but it irks me as a collector.

Class B is the go-between. We'll get some vehicles that are probably a good deal. Others will probably be in the same class as the HISS/VAMP and be $25 instead of $16. It will be hit or miss with this price point.

Class C (NIGHT RAVEN). So we get a $40 plane. My big question becomes scale, which I'm sure we'll see tomorrow. What was the price of the THUNDERWING when it came out? I think this will do well with fans, but the amount of screen time will really determine if parents/kids get on board.

The PIT. Well, we will know more soon, so that leaves it up to each of us to decide if this is a value or not.

ACCELERATOR DUKE:

$70??? OUCH!!! This I think will be a tough sell. I know this class/size item in the Transformer line does ok, but I think Hasbro is banking on something that probably won't sell.

THE REST:

Kids stuff that may or may not sell well.

I like the descriptions of the Pit and the Night Raven. But in the pic, the PIT has wheels, whereas the description references the Pit we all know as stationary and underground. I guess I'll just wait until a larger image is available (Toy Fair?)

As for the Night Raven, in the catalog printout, the figure posed with the jet makes the thing seem small, like a Conquest-sized plane. Maybe that was unintentional, because again, going by the description, it reads to be a bit larger, maybe even the size of the original. Again, hopefully there will be pics from Toy Fair to clear that up.

I love how they give you that tiny little image as a teaser, lol.. I actually like the Pit, though, I think I'll get it on clearance, sorry Hasbro, but unless it's HUGE and looks good all decked out, I just cant justify that kind of money, even so, especially not these days... I'll hold off like I did for the Falcon and try for a $35 clearance price.. I know it doesn't help you or us as fans these days in making future big dollar items, but hey, family first... Hopefully it'll be a hit for Xmas presents!!!!

I was thinking about getting the new Pit if after we saw better pictures I still liked it...BUT...for $100.00, Hasbro can keep it. I'll spend that money elsewhere on something I'll enjoy more...like a mint/complete Killer WHALE or something.

Class A was the biggest surprise to me in regards to the price. These are roughly Alpha vehicles, which retailed for $10 back in 2005. I expected the price to be higher, something along the lines of $13, but $16? That stings a bit.

Class B is a little higher than expected, I expected $20, so $25 isn't too bad since that is what the STar Wars stuff in the same bracket are running now. But some of the reuse stings here as well: $25 for a repaint of a toy I got back in 2005 for $15? (The Ice Sabre repaint).

Class C is right where I expected. The Thunderwing ran $30-$35 back in 2004 (depending on your store), so $40 is reasonable markup, all said and done.

What rock have you been living in where figures aren't near or around $7.99(not counting sales)?

Walmart is still running figures at $6.97-ish at most locations.

No my Walmarts have them for $6.84.

Target has them for $6.99.

The down-side: all they have are the 5 pack revision wave. Who want's more Duke, Scarlett, Gung Ho, Roadblock, Storm Shadow, or Destro??? They didn't even bother adding the Cobra trooper.

Actually I was expecting basic figures to be $9.99 so this is kind of a suprise.

As for a $100 Joe vehicles: Star Wars (infinately more popular than GI Joe) had ITS most popular vehicle--the Mellenium Falcon--warming the shelves until it was clearanced out. Good luck moving pricey Joe vehicles.

thats what mine are too... all the Walmarts are 6.84, the Targets are 6.84 or 6.99. I think TRU is 6.99 also.

This makes me worry that the new price point will stay 7.99, even after the movie junk is over

your probably right clam. They will likely ditch the launcher but keep the price. Some on other boards have suggested it might have something to do with subsidizing the licensing fees on the other 3 3/4"ers . I think it has more to do with the included gimmick, and slowing sales and economy. The dollar is devaluing, very badly prices on this stuff will go up. Hasbro also knows our toy money is shrinking as well, and they still want their share. They are also likely expecting a tax increase. I'm not trying to get into politics, just economics, and possible suggestions for the price changes.

When major bludd was first out, never saw him, but now i can't find anything but him, road block v2 or the hiss driver. I wonder if Hasbro notices alot of us complained about at least 2 of those and they are the same ones peg warming!
