The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Thread!

BIOHAZARD

RESIDENT EVIL

I decided to make this thread, because this is my favorite video game series of all time. since we have some gamers on the forum, I thought that I would make this thread so that the fans of this series could talk about and post news on the series.

I still remember when I first played the first Resident Evil, back on May 3, 1996 (yea man its a holiday to me haha). Ever since that day, I've been a hardcore (junkie level) fan of this video game series.

I'm still hoping that Capcom releases Biohazard/Resident Evil 1.5, the original RE2 version of the game. I also prefer the original Japanese name of the game "Biohazard", over "Resident Evil". After all it was a biohazardous virus that caused the chaos in the storyline.

My favorite character is Leon S. Kennedy, and my favorite monster is William Birkin aka the "G" monster. I wish that Capcom made a REmake of Resident Evil 2, in the form of how they remade the first game.

I know that they released "Darkside Chronicles", and it follows the events of RE2 and RE Code Veronica.... And they will be releasing "Operation Raccoon City", in the Winter. Here's a few clips of the upcoming game.

Interview

I guess that will have to do for now. But nothing beats the original 3rd person view, of the original games though.

Any information that you guys find, on the Biohazard/Resident Evil franchise post it here please. Even if you happen to find a sample of the "T-Virus" or "G-Virus", post the damn thing haha. Send it to us, it will make that "Sars" thing from a few years ago, seem like baby powder hahaha.

So what are your thoughts on this game franchise and are there any fans in the house?

P.S. Even though I'm a hardcore fan of this video game series, I hate the live-action movies based on them, they were trash in my opinion. The only thing that I liked from the movie series, was that the Nemesis monster looked exactly like the game version. But I hate the "Crouching Tiger/ Matrix" crap that was thrown in the movies....I cant stand that "flying around kicking off walls" wire sht, but these are just my opinions.

I love the game series, but I hate the movies as well. With the movies it seems like Paul W.S Anderson just did his own thing and slapped the Resident Evil name on them. Plus the fact that Mila Jovovich is Anderson's wife makes me think he was all like "oh lookie what my wife can do" for every movie! icon_lol.gif

Anyways my favorite game in the series is probably RE2. I also really like Code Veronica and RE4. The HD versions of those games are awesome. I have played all the games except for Resident Evil Gaiden and Resident Evil Survivor.

To be honest I'm not really looking forward to Operation Raccoon city. The game has been outsourced to a low rate company and it looks pretty generic. Capcom has also left a really bad taste in my mouth recently, canceling both Megaman Legends 3 and Megaman Universe and then making a new version of MVC3 not long after the original was released. Capcom also did this really horrible thing with the Resident Evil Mercenaries 3Ds game where you could only have 1 save file. The truth is they wanted to combat the used game market, but Capcom's official response was that it had something to do with keeping the arcade fighter feel to the game or some BS.

In short I still love Resident Evil but I don't like that Capcom is becoming as greedy as Activison and EA.

Ha!

The games are good, except for Resident Evil 5, which is very, very silly. I know it's Resident Evil, but there's only so much over-the-top bullshit that I can take.

I've gotten to accept the movies as their own thing. A movie couldn't capture the mood of the video games anyway. Besides, why do I want to see a movie with the same exact story that I already know? I hated these movies so much at first that I got too excited about the CGI movie, Resident Evil Degeneration. That think sucked. The live-action movies can be silly, but the CGI movie, the supposedly superior RE movie, was just dull.

Man I never knew that Capcom was doing that. I own every single game both in Biohazard and Resident Evil formats. The only game thats I dont own is Gaiden, and the Gun Survivors after the first one. But other than that, I have everything else, I even have the Biohazard 2 and Resident Evil 2 for Nintendo 64. I must say that the newer games dont really have the horror feel, of the first 3 games... I hope that Capcom doesn't start mistreating the franchise...

Haha, after seeing the first one, and then how they handled the second movie-- I was just done... Although the second movie was better than the first, in my opinion. But after Alice started jumping off walls, and turning the movies into a marionette puppet show-- I gave up on the movies... I cant stand the Matrix/Crouching Tiger crap...

Haha that's hilarious. Although I own RE5, I still haven't played it because I don't own a PS3 or X360. People that have played the game, told me that RE has moved away from zombies (similar to RE4), but have also moved away from the RE/BH formula altogether... They have also told me that they didn't like it, and that RE4 was better. Without giving away what happens in the RE5 game's story, what kind of the over the top crap, have they put in it?

RE5 is more of an action game than survival horror. It was still pretty awesome IMO. Some people might have thought Wesker was a little over the top with how powerful he was, but IMO some of those people probably haven't played Code Veronica. I didn't find anything else in the game to be any more over the top than RE4.

As a fellow RE fan I think RE5 is definitely worth playing for the Wesker fights alone and not to mention Lickers make their return. A co-op partner for this game is a must though. I don't think you could enjoy it as much playing by yourself since the ai for Sheva is pretty bad.

I really liked the co-op mechanics in RE5 and I really wish Capcom would do a remake of RE: ZERO in that style.

Im going to respond to both of you guys' statements. For Rockzilla, I feel your pain with how capcom has "become" but honestly thats how theyve always been. You dont recall the million different versions of Street Fighter 2 back in 94 or so? and most of the iterations added very little new things/characters. Well with SF4 they kind of did a nostalgic thing that kind of went too far and they learned their lesson(but super SF4 was amazing and added so much more!). I believe with MVC it was mostly marvels fault this time around. When mvc2 hit back in the day it seemed like marvel didnt really focus too much on their approach of characters and gave them alot of freedom. This time around it sounds like marvel is calling the shots and wanted them to continue another one. Either way Im a fan of that series as well as RE and I will be one of the mindless drones to buy all their iterations. The RE 3DS fiasco was horrible and it was actually not due to only having one save file but not being able to DELETE it. That is a severe flaw even if trying to prevent the reselling of used games. It makes the game completely useless. Needless to say they suffered for it and i believe they learned from it.

I too am not exactly a fan of the RE movies but i do enjoy their soundtracks hahaha.. but really i just dont look at the movies as RE movies anyway. I m happy when random RE characters make guest appearances like the hot ass Jill and Nemesis and soon to be Ada Wong as well as others tho. I just look at them as campy actiony movies with the occasional RE character and some zombies. I honestly didnt mind the CGI movie either. Maybe because it was spot on to how the games feel/look that i neglected any faults or flaws in it. Im sure most of you didnt know about this but they actually made a CG RE film a long time ago called Biohazard 4D Executer thats actually not that bad but its super short... less than 20 minutes. Its enjoyable tho and its like watching the cutscenes of the original games...

sorry its in 2 parts...

Back to the games, my favorites are RE1 and RE5. I know polar opposites in gameplay but both were amazing. Alot of people all seem to hate RE5 compared to most other RE games but honestly i enjoyed it alot. It was original for the most part and exotic and unique. Alot of fans seemed to loved RE4 the most, which i dont blame them it was awesome but it was straight out of HP Lovecrafts mind for the whole setting and cult. Which is great for a horror game but original it was not. I enjoyed the co op aspect of RE5 mostly but it had its fun moments. Its atmosphere wasnt as interesting and scary as 4 was but I still liked it the same. I definitely dont miss the tank controls from RE1-RECV. no thank you. Alot of people also #@$#@ about RE4/5s controls where you cant fire a gun and run at the same time. I for one feel the stopping to aim is what gives it a certain horror feel and trying to be precise before you get attacked can be nerve wracking. If you could run and aim it would feel like it was more on the action side and RE games of late seem to want to be between horror and action. Heres a great list i came across recently that depicts my thoughts of what games define between survival and action horror games...

I'm glad to see Leon back in RE6. I think Leon will be teaming up with Chris in the CG movie RE Damnation as well. I'm really surprised that RE6 is actually coming out this year.

Resident Evil Revelations looks really good too, I think I will pick up a 3DS just for that.

Cool posts guys. Ive never seen 4D before. Hey wasn't it released with a Biohazard 4 special pack or something, in Japan a few years ago or is it from a disc that came with a Japanese video game magazine? I agree with most of what you guys said. I miss the old RE third person view design though, since its what I prefer. Im really looking forward to BH/RE6, Leon, Chris, and Ashley are in it. The brunette in the video is rumored to be Sherry Birkin... Its maybe possible since Sherry was 12 years old in 1998, and RE6 takes place 10 years after. It is also rumored that Ada will be in the game too.

Oh I totally agree about the 5,000 different versions of Street Fighter II that Capcom released between 1991 - 1993. They milked the crap out of that one sequel.... They tried doing the same thing with the Zero/Alpha series, but it wasn't as vicious as with SF2. Midway did something slightly similar with the first Mortal Kombat, all kinds of different revision with different glitches and easter eggs, were released within 1992 through mid 1993. The MK1arcade first started showing up in the summer of 1992, at least it did in the New York City area where I first saw it at PLAYLAND. They went crazy with all the different versions of MK3...and slightly with MK4..... Man I miss the days of gaming from mid 1980's to late 1990's... Especially the days where the top three systems were NES, SNES/SFC, and Genesis/Megadrive. And to a slightly lesser degree PS1, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64... I don't know if its the nostalgic feeling about those games, but I could play all kinds of 8 bit and 16 bit games for NES, SNES/SFC, and Genesis, and I don't ever get sick of them. Where as more modern games just don't give me that same feeling.

With Street Fighter it was totally obvious for them to do so many re-releases after the SF2 thing. I didn't expect them to do that with MVC3 though, because the first 2 games didn't get any revisions.

I will definitely hold off on Street Fighter X Tekken because they WILL make another version I guarantee it. dry.gif

to answer the first paragraph, no: http://en.wikipedia....ard_4D_Executer

For the second paragraph, Capcom actually sold the different iterations of SF2, as completely different entities that added very little to the original game. Some added the bosses which was ok, but some just added minor tweaks to the gameplay like adding a turbo feature allowing the game to go faster which definitely does not warrant a full $50 price tag. But back then there were no other options. They werent as smart about their consumers as they are today. Today they would sell it at a budget price similar to what they did with super sf 4 and Ultimate mvc3. With Mortal Kombat, they never sold those updates as individual games. They were just balance updates. They were never sold as separate games, altho they may have sold them like that as arcade machines to business owners, they did not with the general public. The only MK game that can be considered to be sold as an update and separate game would be Ultimate MK3, and that game provided enough content that i feel was worth paying full price.

I too miss the gaming days of yesteryear. I miss the genesis, super nes, dreamcast, N64 and playstation days. But thats what emulators are for right? and i still have my dreamcast. Its one of my most prized gaming treasures. My favorite system of all time. and as a fighting game fanatic you can understand why. A good 1/3 of the DC's library consisted of fighters and capcom games. 2 of my favorite things.

With Street Fighter it was totally obvious for them to do so many re-releases after the SF2 thing. I didn't expect them to do that with MVC3 though, because the first 2 games didn't get any revisions.

Only the whiny wankers on forums expected MVC3 to have an update. I always got pissed at people that kept saying "i ll just wait for the super ultra mega mvc3 edition to come out" and i always shook my head like you are a @#@@. The only reason they did that formula was for a nostalgic purpose (as well as to make more money) SF4 and Super SF4 were all about bringing the old days back. Even with their art direction. The first sf4 was more geared towards just bringing back SF2 and having fans that havent touched a sf since 2 could recognize it and get back into it. Super 4 was even influenced by the style of super 2 turbo with its sketchy style that they did when super 2 came out. But they started running it into the ground and people started to get pissed after arcade edition and then the insane idea of releasing ultimate mvc3 not even 9 months after the first version..(and what irks me is the lack of real DLC for vanilla mvc3 through that whole time).

The whole thing about the first 2 iterations of MVC not getting any kind of revisions is a few things. 1) that was street fighters thing, they didnt update any other fighters like that... i.e. darkstalkers, rival schools, etc etc. 2) its alot harder to do that back then to produce an update and sell it and 3) marvel would probably not allow it. Now this time marvel sees games as a way to promote their other properties that they want to push so they are all for it. So much so that i think they mightve been the main reason ultimate even exists. Capcom had made alot of extra DLC after MVC3 came out that was rumored but (by a good source) and I think they held off on it and decided there was too much content as DLC that people may riot over it ($5 per character + 12 = more than the full price of the original game) and decided to just release a full disc release and sell it at a budget price... which honestly i can get behind that idea... and i did. I was still playing mvc3 when they announced it and still did up until i got ultimate. Its a great addition and the fact that the dlc transfers over is nice as well.

Also just to let you know, capcom learned their lesson... they said they arent going to do any more disc releated updates so no more full price BS. If they update it, it will be DLC only. So that could be good news or bad news depending on your take on it. I look at it as kind of both. good that no more full priced disc iterations, but bad because their DLC pricing is somewhat horrendous. I will still be picking up sf x tekken.... i mean 48 characters from 2 of my favorite fighting game franchises in one game?? hell yes sign me up.

Sorry for the long reply... i nerd the f out on these kind of topics.. get me started on anything fighting game related or even RE or capcom and i will talk your ear off.

Thanks for the RE link. As for the SF/MK different versions and revisions, I already knew all that haha. I was speaking about the arcade games for MK. And for SF, I was talking about arcade and console versions. Thanks for all the info though. Back in 1995 I always wanted the 3DO system, just to be able to own "Super SF II X/Turbo"... That was the only system at the time that had that game.

I too sill have my dreamcast, I got the Japanese version in early 1999. I still have Code Veronica both SE and X versions, Blue Stinger, Marvel Vs Capcom 1 & 2, Power Stone, Biohazard 2 value plus with the CV demo, King of Fighters 2000, and Zombie Revenge, etc.

Did you ever own the TurboGrafx-16, or the Colecovision?

Sorry if im coming off as a know it all stating obvious info or common info. I dont think i realized what you were talking about and just nerded out on the topic of what you were saying haha. Yeah i wanted the 3DO only for the arcade perfect ports of some of my favorite fighters like primal rage, mk3, sf2 X, and some other random fighters that were exclusive to the system at that time.

I have about 12 actual copies of games and then i have about, well lets just say too many other games that arent actual copies... yeah i was a pirate back then... i regret it now since my favorite system suffered for it.

I never owned either but when i was younger a friend of mine had a TGfx16 and i loved playing bonks adventure on it.... whats funny is i actually own both as apps on my phone.... as well as intellivision, Mame, Commadore 64, and a few others. Amazing how far technology has come.

Naw its alright man, survival horror is not for everyone. The early RE games were pretty tough. I'll admit I've never finished the original PS1 version of RE1, I played the Gamecube remake instead. tongue.gif

Haha hey man its cool, no harm done. There's always something new to learn from sharing info, just like you showed me that BH/RE short CG movie which I never saw before. Yea that's the same reason that I wanted a 3DO too. That system had a really short shelf life, but I think that the Virtual Boy takes the prize under the "Systems Gone Too Soon or Not Fast Enough" category... I'm kind of behind on technology... I still dont own a PS3 or an Xbox 360, even though I own games for both systems... Im a huge game collector myself, and still have my Nintendo, SNES, Gameboy, Game Gear, Sega Saturn, N64, PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, and Game Cube.. I have factory sealed versions of games for each systems... For every game that I buy, I usually purchase a copy to keep sealed...

Here's a few of the sealed games from my collection:

all the Biohazard and Resident Evil games to date, (except for the Pal editions, the Gun Survivor games, Gaiden, and game com RE2)

Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival (GBA)

Mega Man 3 (nes)

Mega Man 7 (snes)

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (snes)

all the Saint Seiya games for famicom and PS2

all the Hokuto No Ken games for famicom, super famicom, mega drive, ps1, and the arcade version for ps2

Killer Instinct 2/Gold

I know I'm probably going to get flak for this but I never really got into the Resident evil games I've played a few but they were always kind of meh I love the films alot more but that's just me

Naw its alright man, survival horror is not for everyone. The early RE games were pretty tough. I'll admit I've never finished the original PS1 version of RE1, I played the Gamecube remake instead. tongue.gif

The wild thing about it is, that the difficulty level for the first Biohazard originally from 1996, was set much higher than the Resident Evil counterpart also from 1996... In the Japanese version you found less ammo, and the monsters took more shots to take down than in the American version... It wasn't until RE2 came out that the American releases of the games, were made with a higher difficultly level, than the Japanese versions... BH2 had more ammo in the game, the players controls were set to aim automatically by default, and the monsters took less shots to take down. Also RE2 was the first game of the franchise to be released in American, just a few days before Japan... I wonder if its because one of the main characters had the surname of "Kennedy", so maybe Capcom felt that it was more patriotic to release the game in America first... I don't know, I'm just speculating here with the Kennedy stuff haha.

That GC remake was amazing.. as i played through it, i remembered every place again along with a few new additions. I really really really wish they had made more of those. Just imagine a remake of RE2!!!

That reminds me, just to let you guys know, those recently released "HD" re releases are piss poor versions of the games. They are just the same games but only playable through the current gen hardware. What i mean is, they didnt add anything new,(minus achievements/trophies support) and they arent real HD. They did nothing to add to the textures to enhance them or even make the game look remotely better. Its like they worked on them for maybe 2 months to add new UI and achievo support and then uploaded them. If you have either games on the older systems, i suggest returning to those systems versions instead of forking over 15 bones for each of the same game.

Mortal Kombat (snes)

Mortal Kombat Trilogy (N64)

WCW/nWo: World Tour (both the american version, and the japanese version with Bas Rutten and bunch of other wrestling and mma fighters) (N64)

Both Zelda games for N64

Street Fighter Alpha (the original long box version for PS1)

Marvel Super Heroes (PS1)

Yeah I have most of my systems still.. Mostly the ones that cant be fully emulated or arent as fun emulated. I still have games that range from PS1 to current gen as well as i still have my game gear and my gba along with tons of games for a alot of systems. I got rid of all the systems where their superior system was backward compatible with their old stuff i.e. no more gamecube since having a wii, ps2, etc. I dont even get rid of my games since the ps1 days so i still have a crap ton of games in my collection. Im lucky enough that i don t think i have so much that i have to pay for storage though. That would be rough. I do however need to sell a good half of my 360 collection somehow. I have too many that i dont want anymore that dont really need to stay in my collection.

Also, thats really crazy that you buy 2 copies of a game just to keep one in mint package. And I thought that it was ridiculous for people to do that with their figures.... eesh.. I guess if youve got the monies to throw down, why not? I fork over money for useless things too often. Just earlier today i m throwing down almost 200 bones just for a fight stick... my first official one ( i have a hori stick that came with the uber edition of tekken 6 but its kind of not as good... made out of plastic and wireless meaning its not as stable and has lag problems when performing any kind of moves)... it does the job but i want the hardcore ones for once.
