MOTU 200X Talk...

Recommended Posts

I love all MOTU, and 200X is no different. The cartoon was pretty outstanding, even with its faults. The toys were awesome, though I wish they'd gone with articulation instead of action features like the Horsemen (I believe) had planned on. It was a reimagining without kicking everything to the curb and starting fresh. The comics were great, too. I wish it had all lasted longer.

I loved the line and even got them all but General and Snake Armor He Man. I still have them in storage but the way things ended soured me. I have thought about selling them recently a few times.

I have 2 of each figure (except the reissues with snakemen designs, etc) one loose and one an card. I think the exclusives like Fakor, Keldor and Moss Man were the only ones I didn't get a loose and carded version for just one as they were too expensive. I was lucky to find all except the snakemen in stores including multiples of Evil Lynn and Teela, etc. which I hooked up others with. I even saw a red carded Zodac but passed initially and never saw again. I loved those figs and still do. I even got all the stactions until the Rio Blast, Mosquitor, Jitsu, Squezzze waves that I never could find and just gave up on at that point.

I agree the time slot killed the show. They kept changing it. I had no idea when the hell it was on and had to hunt for it every week and am pissed it ended the way it did with the promise of an amazing season that was never made.

I had to quit MOTU when MOTUC came out I just couldn't afford it and wasn't about to restart my collection with a brand new line. Just like I gave up on G.I. Joe when the 25th anniversary figs came out. No way I could replace my massive Cobra army.

Hey guys I have a question about 200x He-Man variations.

Harness Variations

Check out the pictures on my Blog.

Does anyone know why they changed the chest harness on He-Man, or they two different figures?

I believe it was a copyright issue. Another brand had the rights to the first design (the iron cross), so Mattel changed it to the asterisk-like logo. The rarer version is the iron cross, though it's not really that rare. Some regular He-Man figures came with it, and the He-Man packaged with one of the vehicles (the Battle Tank) also came with it. I like it better than the asterisk, which doesn't feel like He-Man.

I always thought it was religious issue... Thanks for clearing it up...

Really loved this show when it was on at the time on YTV in Canada. The toys looked pretty cool as well. Only recently, did I started to get some of the 6" figures, thanks to the fact that I was able to get some figures for around $5 and Samurai Cringer for around $10 at a Comic Book store during 2011's Free Comic Book Day. I also recently did a trade with someone for a verison of Skeletor(Unfortunally, he lost the staff, but I at least got the 2 Swords).

For the 6" line, I know many people didn't like the whole He-man and Skeletor variants(As many would clam that was what ended the whole toyline), but to be fair, I did think that almost all the Skeletor variants were kind of cool and neat looking. It also helped that many of the variant Skeletor's did come with either his 2 Swords, and/or his Staff. Or at the very least, a very neat look variant of the Staff. Either way, you end up with some sort of varaint of at least 1 or 2 of his main weapons.

The only 1 that I thought was kind of weird looking was the Fire Armour Skeletor figure only cause of it's colours, as it's repaint as Ice Armour Skeletor was actually nice looking. I'm assuming Fire Armour Skeletor was created as a fold against Ice Armour He-man since they came out in the same wave, but to me, it's colours just didn't click with me, unlike it's repaint Ice Skeletor. Deluxe Samurai Skeletor is the only other weird looking Skeletor figure, but then again, I thought the samething with Samuari He-man and Man-At-Arms, and it was mainly because of the Power Stilts they are wearing. Of course, without the stilts, Skeletor actually looks not too bad.

He-man Varaints unfortunally weren't that great. Besides the regular/standard He-man(And whatever crest variants there was for it), the other good ones in my opinion were:

- Both Gold and Silver Battle Sounds Deluxe Armour(Homage to Battle Armour He-man for old line)

- Ice Armour He-man(Makes kind of sense when he goes to cold reagins and was much cooler since it did appear in the show)

- Smash Blade He-man(Many hate this figure since it's the Basic Standard He-man in blue clothing and fur and what not, but I actually kind of like the blue)

- The Show Accurate Snake Armour he wore in Season 2 of the show against the Snakemen. Was actually surpised that it wasn't repainted at least 1 more time, like for example, a Gold and Black repaint.

- The Wolf Armour He-man that was in a 2 pack that features Snake Armour Skeletor. I think it would of been cooler if this He-man came with a Power Sword of some sort.

Will admit that Jungle Attack He-man is somewhat so-so, but I think it would of benifited with a better sword. The rest of the He-man varaints just didn't seem to interesting or great at all, as some were just too funky. Espeiclly during the Snakeman line, Snake Hunter He-man has a net launched attached to the back of his armour. I always thought that just seemed to stupid to me, and it just looked too funky.

Another problem is unlike Skeletor who usually came with 1 of his main accessories or at least a varint of them, many of the He-man variants didn't come with his Power Sword or at the very least, a cool varint of his Power Sword that actually looks like his Power Sword(Or that it was his Power Sword turned into it). Granted, many of them did come with a Sword, but many were just techy looking, funky looking, or very different looking Swords, as many of them didn't even look like they were a variant of his Power Sword. There were some varaint He-man's that didn't even come with a Sword at all.

I also thought both the Mini-Figurines and the 2003 McDonald's Happy Meal toys were nice as well, as they look like smaller verisons of the larger 6" toys, including in sculpt detail, paint, and what not. Back when the line was out from 2002-2004, I was actually thinking of getting the Mini-Figurines instead of the main 6" line, just because of the detail on the small figures. It also looks like they at least had some very basic joints as well(Arms, head, and maybe waist for some. Legs I would say is iffy cause they were usually stuck on a base). In reguards to the McD Happy Meal line, I got Orko as my brother got Ram Man, and I sware, if you posted pics of them, I would almost think they were the 6" figures at a 1st glance. I actually use the McD's Orko as part of my 6" collection, since Orko is suppose to be a little guy(Granted, maybe seem too tiny, but still useful for me at least since he's little).

I never liked all those different versions of Skeletor or Heman, ice armor he man was the only one I liked but I couldn't stand those samurai versions or the snake armor heman. I liked them for the episodes they were in but that was it.

Those Mc Donald's toys were good sort of like the Batman toys, I remember those being the best toys they ever had up till that point.

Those McDonald's toys were pretty cool. Whatever happened to getting toys like that? Whenever McDonald's gets an action figure property, they never just do smaller versions of the main characters with less articulation.

Everything is cheapen or lessen these days... Hell the Big Mac is not even big anymore...

Though I was in college at the time and my attention needed to be on other things, and though the distribution was probably worse than any toy line I've ever see, I managed to grab pretty much all of them including HTF stuff. I had exclusives like moss man and faker. Had Evil Lynn, Roboto, Cyclone...I remember Kay Bee toys still existed at the time and an employee just hapend to see me looking at the motu and said there was more in the back if I wanted. She pulled out three guys, can't remember who they were at the time but I know they were HTF at the time. Yeah, I had pretty much every figure before the line became statues.

I sold them all as a lot before I moved out of my parents for a couple hundred dollars. Cool figures, but sometimes you just can't have it all.

Still have my 200x collection. I didn't bother collecting the variant figures like "Mega punch He man" and all that. But I did get most of them pretty cheap including Keldor, Moss-Man, She-Ra, Faker. I'm keeping all in the package (never opened them), but I do have a few loose ones. I also recently bought the 200x series on DVD! Sad they ended it so abruptly, but it's still a great series and toyline.

The design was great... Mattel overriding 4H decision regarding useful articulation still bothers me...

I remember it was the 200x line that got me back into collecting (much to the chagrin of my wife). We were going to a family reunion and we stopped at a grocery store to get some sodas and in browsing I saw a couple of Skeletor figs. I knew I was going to see my godson and wanted to share with him my love of MOTU so I got it for him. I couldn't stop staring at it. In the checkout line I decided to go get the other for myself. That was it from there. Once I had Skeletor I needed He Man and then it became all of them. Once the 200x line died I went to G.I. Joe (just like I did when I was a kid). Then the Joe line went on hiatus and I went to DCUC figs. Who knows what will be next as DCUC goes away.

Just remembered that the orginial post asked people to post pics of their collection. I don't have any at the moment myself, but I can at least do a list and provide links from the He-man.org website for references(Info and pics) so that you guys know what figures I got:

Smash Blade He-man. While probably everybody's favourite variant to hate(Because many have stated that they could of put someone else instead of this He-man who is just a basic repaint), this is my default He-man, as I really like the blue and gold on him:

Samurai Battle Cat. I actually like this 1 better than the regular, mainly because the armour and how it looks more protective. Plus, he does come with an extra sword which I can always use for other 6" figures if I don't want He-man to have it:

Ice Armour He-man. 1 of those rare "Makes sense" variants. Plus, it did appear in the show a few times:

Serpent Claws Man-At-Arms. I had the options of both the regular from the 1st wave and this verison from the Snakemen line, and for some reason, I liked this 1 more. No clue why, just do(Maybe the silver looking armour):

Regular Skeletor. Got this 1 loose recently, as I got everything except for the staff, which I'm not too concern about. The figure I have is also the only MOTU 200x figure with the chip on his foot in my collection:

Gold Armour Skeletor. Really like the gold look on him, as it kind of gives him a sort of Pharoh/"King Skeletor" look to him. That said, it wasn't until I got home did I realize that his face was Orange, which somewhat upsetted me cause I always though the figure's face was green. That said, I just chalk it up to the armour being so shinny that it causes his face to look orange. I have my regular and Gold Skeletor share Gold's staff, as I kind of switch between the 2 as my default Skeletor. If Gold's face was Green instead of Orange, good chance I would of used this as my default:

Snake Crush Skeletor. May look somewhat weird, but I got him only cause he just looks so darn fun, thanks to his long bendy arms. Don't remember, but I think it was featured in the 2nd season of the show:

Repainted Tri-Klops. This 1 is a repaint of the orginal, with silver pants, black gloves, green drone, and green sword, along with some other decos on him. I got the 1 from the Snakeman packaging, but he did appear in the regular style packaging too. Don't remember, but I think I MAY have had the option of both the regular verison and the repainted, and while the Green Drone almost turned me off, I kind of liked this repainted verison of the figure more. Besides, since I have silver paint, I can always paint the Drone myself if it really bothers me:

McDonalds Orko. My 1st actual He-man toy thanks to a Happy Meal I bought back in 2003. Since Orko is small, I figure he'd fit in my collection well(Even if he maybe too small):

That's my 200x collection at this time. Don't know if I'll be able to get anything else from this line, but event then, I'm just happy to have at least a few figures from this line. Would defently like to get the females, and at least 1 or 2 Beast looking villian(Beast Man, Mer-man, etc).

By the way, been meaning to ask for those who have both 200x and the MOTUC figures. Does anyone know if the MOTU 200x verison of Skeletor can ride of the Classics verison of Panthor. Only ask because I've been considering getting the Classics verison of Panthor for my 200x Skeletors, as I think the huge Panthor would look awesome against my Battle Cat. Seen him in some of my local comic book stores, but I need to know about 200x Skeletor fitting on Classics Panthor or not before I even consider buying the Classics Panthor. If anyone can answer this question, would be greatful. Thanks.

I haven't seen any pictures, but I'm sure you could put him on MOTUC Panthor. The articulation would allow for it. I'm not sure how far out his legs would stick given how big MOTUC Panthor is, though. You don't want 200X Skeletor with his legs straight out to the sides.

I love Ice Heman (also Fire Skeletor). My son wants Snake Crush Skeletor. Is it as cool as it looks.

Had to take out and fiddle around with my Snake Crush Skeletor today to help you answer this, since the last time I fooled around with it was sometime Summer of last year. In my opinion, Snake Cursh Skeletor is pretty cool toy to play with, and defently does look cool. The crazy design is so toyish, yet it's something I can actually see Skeletor having fun with, what with him grabbing He-man and smashing him around with. And while I don't remember 100%, I do seem to recall him wearing the armour in an episode from the 2nd season.

Because the arms are long, they actually do bend pretty well, espeically when you compare to other toys that have a rubbery bendy feel on the outside with a metal bendy rod in the inside(I have a few of these, though keep in mind that they are around or under 5" scale). It won't bend exactly at 90 degrees, but still bends very well. I was also able to wrap a figure around the long arms(I used my regular Skeletor figure). The right hand/Skull Snake Head has a spring at the mouth, in which you open, and it snaps shut when you let go, or you can use it to hold stuff(Like Skeletor used it to bite someones hand or something). The waist on mine seemed pretty loose, so I don't know if that was just mine or something that's common. He also has what I think is call swivel joints(Move from side-to-side only) on the upper part of his arms near the ball-joint to the body, which does give a bit more movement, something I didn't notice until today actually.

That said, I do have somethings to point out that you might consider negative. While the right hand/skull snake head has a spring to allow for some play, the left one's mouth is always open, as I kind of wish it either had a spring similar to the right hand, or that they just used a normal hing joint so that you have the option of opening and closing this mouth. Was actually surprised by this back when I opened it in the 1st place back last year, as I actually expected a joint on the left hand/skull. 2nd off, blancing him to stay standing is pretty trickly thanks to his long arms. No impossible mind you, but if you want both arms up(And especially with 2 figures wrapped around in them), be prepare for him to fall down. I say keeping 1 arm positioned to the ground for blance(Or at least having a bend at the ground and the head going up) at least should help out with any blanacing issues. Well either that, or maybe try putting him on a base meant for 6" figures and see(But with his long arms, still can't say for sure if that will help or not).

That said, I still think he's cool looking, and if you allow your kid to play with it, I'm sure he'll have some fun wrapping it's long arms around a figure or 2. Just be aware of blancing issues is all if you want the toy standing for awhile(Especally for display purposes). But for play, I'm sure the kid will just hold the Snake Crush Skeletor while he has 2 figures being crushed in his long arms, so long as the kid doesn't have to go and grab a flying vehicle or something to help rescue the figures trapped in Skeletor's grip.

A while ago, I was wondering how someone would know if any of the 2002-2004 MOTU figures were the ones that had the chip on it's leg or not once they were open from the packaging. Well, I did a Google search, and found this posting from the MOTU messageboards. The person who posted this was doing a comparison of the 2 verisons of Castle Greyskull from the 200x MOTU line, as 1 had Chip activated features, and the other didn't. He showed some links to some pictures so that you would see what a bottom of a foot of a MOTU figure that had the chip compared to 1 that didn't would look like. Here are some links, with the 1st to the Messageboard for comparisons of Castle Greyskull(It's a good read by the way, comparing the 2 verisons), the 2nd to Oako's stand that has the chip, the 3rd showing the bottom foot of a Mekaneck with the chip(As you can see, it has a little nouch/lid to indicate where the chip is), and the last the bottom foot of a non-chip Skeletor(Which is just one piece instead of having a little lid):

This is a good way to know if anyone ever gets any loose 200x MOTU figures, if they have the Chip verisons or Not. That said, no clue if the Chip verisons are more valueable or not when compare to Non-Chip verisons though.

As well of interest, I found out recently(Though apparently it's been probably known for years since 2006 at least at the he-man.org message boards) that back around 2002-2004, there was going to be a Target Exclusive 2 pack that featured Smash Blade He-man V.S. Spin Blade Skeletor, which would of also come with a Exclusive Comic Book(I assume would of explained the reason for their spin weapons). That said, no clue if this meant that these 2 verisons of He-man and Skeletor were orginailly only suppose to be in this 2 pack but it got canceled, or if they were still suppose to be both out as singles for the regular line and 2 packs for Target Exclusives. Either way, the orginal person who posted it, JVS3, asked the people on the board they wanted him to revel the comic book, and while lots of people said "Yes", Mattel has years later stated that they didn't want the comic book reviel, since they want their 200x Comic Book Bible kept as a secret(Or something like that). My guess is so that they can use elements for the Classics line if they see fit. That said, JVS3 does hope Mattel will let them 1 day reveil the cancelled Comic Book 2 pack online, but I'm doubtful that will happen. The 1st posting was on August, 26, 2006, and the last posting to date is November, 14, 2010. Anyways, here's a link to the 1st posting from the He-man.org Messageboards about this cancelled Target Exclusive 2 Pack with Comic Book:

And here's a link from He-man.org on some of the known MOTU Fast Food Toy Promos that have happened over the years, inlcuding for the orginial line, and for all the 200x line(Including McD's for the U.S., and Burger King for Europe):
