New MOTUC Intergalactic Skeletor & Flutterina Revealed

Anyone feeling regretful about their sub purchase for next year?

Not me, I must be the only guy on here that likes the POP and NA figures. LOL!

I like most of 'em, and even the ones I initially don't like or am "meh" on I usually end up liking once they're in-hand. More so the PoP than NA, though I think NA Skeletor, Hydron, and Flogg were pretty much "must haves" for the NA segment.

Really guys, take a look at what's left for Vintage MotU....there ain't much. If they follow their usual patterns, we'll get a Horde member in the fall (Probably Dragstor), and there's still the Snake-Man that was mentioned as coming this year yet to be revealed (unless Unnamed One is filling that slot). Of course, they may not follow their usual patterns, so...we'll see. But Neitleich made it pretty clear from the jump that when he said "A-Listers" he meant "A-listers" from ALL the different segments. Not just Vintage MotU.

Who's left for vintage? Rio Blast, Ninjor, Blast-Attack, Squeeze, Tung Lashor, Dragstor, Saurod, Gwildor, Twistoid, Rotar Multi-Bot, and uh...that's it except for variants (Buzz Saw Hordak, Terror Claws Skeletor, Flying Fists He-Man, Laser-Light He-Man and Skeletor). Figure Twistoid and Rotar will likely come as a two-pack (possibly SDCC Exclusive), and we'll probably get at least one or two more vintage in the back end of 2014 (I'd bet on Dragstor and Tung Lashor), and after that...really, who else on that list are people REALLY clamoring for? Maybe Rio Blast and Ninjor. I see a little support for Saurod and multi-bot...and...that seems like about it save for the "want all of vintage remade regardless" folks (nothing wrong with that, just noting).

All that having been said...I'd have thought we'd see Angella before Flutterina.

This. I can stomach the main cast of POP Barbies, but when the esoteric ones come out of the woodwork time and time again... and now with frickin' butterfly wings? I hate spending $40 on a glorified doll.

Ah well, she'll join the Star Sisters, Frosta, Netossa, and Castaspella in that black hole of a storage facility that I own.

I think the plan is to get everything done by the end of 2015 while throwing in a few extras... And since there are very few vintage figures left, they will incorporate random figures, like Flutterina for example. Look at the reveals we have so far, they are mostly A Listers from POP and NA... and a few random "little to be desired" ones. They are clearly rushing them out, which is a good thing.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. There seems to be pretty widespread support for Flutterina and other such POP characters, be it the Matty forums, the Comikaze panel Q&A, and most likely the Org.

Somehow, the expectation for mini-comic barbarians, 200X editions, or even a Filmation Hordak in lieu of a Peekablu or Mermista is now the exception; that my disinterest in adding another girlie-girl figure to my collection basically relegates me to a consumer base, for which the subscription service is no longer meant.

Did I miss something? When did the MOTU fanbase turn into this monolithic clamouring entity for any and every female figure that Mattel can produce?

The org is predominantly POP fans... and a lot of cat fighting. Female figures are sexy. Chics dig'em because they are beautiful, dudes dig 'em becase they are hot. Fans who don't like them seem to be hung up on that macho, "I aint playing with dolls" mentality.

I'll be honest though... I'm not sure how queer it will look having a figure with huge butterfly wings in my display... I suppose it can't be worse than a pastel colored winged unicorn.

I can understand appreciating a sculpt (I consider action figure more art than some of these contemporary pieces they call art these days)... To scream in excitement like little girls... That is just not right...

Most of the PoP figures/characters just aren't cool. That's all it is for me.

I like Scorpia and Catra and even Octavia because they're cool. Flutterina and Mermista and Netossa are pretty lame no matter how I look at them. So I don't want them.

I blame all the Bronies out there... and Monster High, lol.

There is something really creepy about a grown man looking through Monster High dolls in public... I saw a mom leading her daughter away from a guy at TOYSRUS the other day...

HEY.. I WAS LOOKING FOR MY SISTER!!!! lol, truth be told, I do get asked by my sisters to keep an eye out for certain exclusives they're looking for.

I can understand the term "beauty" being applied as an aesthetic/artistic qualification to the sculpting/design.

However, maybe I'm just an old fogey or something because the whole concept of "hot/sexy" being applied to action figures/dolls/statues is beyond baffling. I just can't comprehend how someone can sexually objectify a... toy.

I've always had a fanboy boner for 1983's Carrie Fisher in the Slave Leia get up, but my interest in acquiring the couple Slave Leia toys that I have were more in line with my penchant for Jabba's Palace displays. I've never looked at the Slave Leia figure and had any kind of Homer-esque "mmmmm" thought cross my mind.

And maybe that's why I don't *squee* at the unveiling of the latest POP Barbie to come down the pike.

...and I fall back to my earlier statement that MOTUC is seemingly no longer geared for collector's like me. I get zero satisfaction out of collecting/owning Netossa, Star Sisters, Castaspella, and the like.

I guess my biggest questions are what changed? How did this new trend become the norm for typically male-based toy collecting? Is it more of a vocal minority or has the male toy collecting market shifted en masse to desiring what has been traditionally considered to be female-intended toys?

And for that matter, do the majority of vintage MOTU collectors also have extensive vintage POP collections?

You're blowing this way out of proportion. Also not applying much historical perspective: Female figures have pretty much been "hot" with Collectors virtually since the mid-90's or so, because they were often the figures that were short packed in cases and therefore harder to find. The thing is, even when that eventually wasn't the case anymore, somehow it still stuck. I was aware of "Bronies" but I didn't know Monster High was a "thing" with some adult collectors. *Shrug* Neither of them do anything for me, and neither of them are truly the mainstream for male adult toy collectors.

Now, MOTUC no longer "being geared towards collectors like you?" You don't want Two-Bad, Modulok, Extendar, or Blade? You've already said Scorpia was OK. Hydron, Flogg and Intergalactic Skeletor? The thing is that MotUC was never geared towards collectors like you, like me, or like anyone else unless you're one of those guys (or girls) that literally wants EVERYTHING. It's trying to please every segment to some extent while realizing not everyone is going to get everything they want and only what they want unless they're an "all in" collector. You sub...and outside of maybe the first year (and even then) you're probably going to get some stuff you don't want. This isn't exactly new for the line. Someone complains about virtually every figure that gets put out to one extent or another.

I'm lukewarm on most of the PoP figures when they're announced. I usually end up liking them better once in-hand, but I'm hardly "squeeing" about them. They also were pretty far behind in terms of filling out their roster compared to other factions, so having a few more of them this year makes at least a bit of sense from that perspective, though again I'm mildly baffled by getting Flutterina instead of/before Angella.

Why are the MOTUC POP figures refereed to as "POP Barbies"? These action figures hardly resemble a Barbie doll. If they had rooted hair I'd understand, but...

They're referred to as PoP Barbies because in typical internet fashion he must try to brutally cut down anything that does not cater specifically to his tastes and attempt to belittle and emasculate those that do like them.

No, I call them Barbies because that's what they remind me of - Butterfly Barbie, Mermaid Barbie, Ice Princess Barbie, Peacock Feather Sunday Holiday Stroll Barbie.

They're bright, colourful, pastel-heavy, articulated dolls. I am well aware that they don't have rooted hair, but they're still based off of a line that did. Hell, they still come with "comb" weapons.

And you make a good point about the line not being intended for anyone short of having a *I want everything in the history of ever* mentality.

But even though I'm not a particular fan of NA (never seen the cartoon; have no nostalgic tie to the series/toys), I can still understand how/why they're included. And I even enjoyed NA He-Man and look forward to NA Skeletor. I get (and enjoy) 200X renditions and original characters. Did I have any idea who Lord Dactys was? Hell no. But he's still an awesome figure to add to my collection.

I am by no means a MOTU purist. I would actually consider myself pretty eclectic in my MOTUC tastes. I will even go so far as to say that despite my initial balking of the FFM, in hand, they were pretty neat (once given better names). Vykron, too. Yet, the POP releases outside of the core Filmation cast, have never had me give a second thought to just chucking the white mailer boxes directly into storage. Well, that's not entirely true. I did consider opening Castaspella to scavenge her magic effect accessory for my other figures.

Personally I didn't consider myself an "all in" kinda guy but there actually have ended up being very few figures that I haven't found redeeming qualities to once I had them in-hand (and most of those were because of defects in execution rather than character selection). Even figures I thought for sure I'd hate (Mighty Spector and Nepthu most notably) I've ended up reconsidering once I could see them up close.

Personally I'd LOVE a 200X Mini-Sub. 200X is criminally underrated, as IMO it was one of the best-portrayed "modernization reboots" that have ever been produced. But Mattel bungled the toy distribution/pack-outs and Cartoon Network screwed the scheduling on the animated series so...yeah. But 200X, while having been thrown some bones, has never been considered one of the areas the line focuses on, sadly.

But I dunno. Maybe I'm weird, but nearly every time I see one of those PoP figures unveiled and think, "Great...another garishly colored PoP figure" I end up getting them in hand, looking them over, and going, "Huh...I actually like this figure." Castaspella was the biggest recipient of that, but that may be solely due to one of the best combinations of headsculpt and paint that I've ever seen on a mass-produced female figure.

The only PoP figures that I haven't warmed up to are 2/3s of the Star Sisters (The blonde one I like...the other two do nothing for me).

The amazing thing about the POP figures to me, is the conversion from 2D to 3D. The POP figures are perfectly translated from Filmation art to sculpt. Even the Star Sisters are similar to the cartoon versions.

I think a lot of fans feel ashamed to even hold a "girly" toy in their hands, but whatever. I think all the females are awesome.

Nepthu truly is lame, but 100% better once his eyes are painted correctly IMO.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything redeeming about Nepthu. I was especially disappointed with the pre-yellowed crystal Zoar that came with him.

I feel compelled to echo my change of heart regarding the FFM. I was completely wrong about them once I got them in hand. My favourite FFM ended up being the one with the dumbest name - Dawg-o-tor or "Thorgrim" as he is now known. I'm a sucker for anything that I can possible pass off as Conan the Barbarian inspired. I gave the female FFM the weapon pack's Laserlot sword and assigned her to Octavia as another space pirate crew member, and the blue guy was neat and repurposed into a Gar Survivalist. I did have to put the Horde chest pieces on, though - as much as ol' blue's made me laugh hysterically since it reminded me of It's Always Sunny's Dennis' ex-wife and her penchant for cat-faced shirts.

I'm really hoping that the Unnamed One ends up being either Thulsa Doom inspired or even Set.

There are many who think the Unamed One will be some sort of Snake Mountain man... I can totally see it because after all, Castle Grayskullman already exists and it would be strange to have just him without the other.

Regarding Conan, I would love if the 4H created a dedicated line of Conan figures from the 1982 and1984 films.

calm down man, didnt mean to be offensive. I would have been extra careful if this was a Disney or Nickelodeoan forum, but knowing were all adults here, I thought using the terms "hot" and "bedroom", wont bother anyone. Still, my apologies if it was distasteful, I was just kidding, peace.
