I know a lot of people do not like this movie because of the sci fi nature and the fact most of it takes place on earth and some of the acting is campy but I just watched on blu ray and I still love frank langella as skeletor and the actress that played evil lyn was pretty good and I still like Dolph lundgren as He-man.

I still enjoyed the movie for what it was worth an 80's he-man sci fi movie. I enjoyed seeing the villains again especially Blade and Karg. I don't know if anyone can play a better Skeletor. Langella was really good. He really stole the movie when he was on screen. And he was more ruthless than the filmation cartoon. I think teela could be in a different outfit and man at arms also. The he-man outfit needed to lose the cape but it is what is a sci-fi fantasy movie.

You can be more forgiving of it when you hear the commentary (from my understanding anyway). I think the director had bigger ideas and better intentions, but budget or other things threw a monkey wrench into it all.

It was still way better than Retaliation (gijoe) imop......when I watched He-man movie as a kid, one of my beefs was he never changed back into prince adam....which was prolly a good thing...No Orko but Gwildor was fine....it's a kool old school cheezy movie..still great to catch on cable w/some homemade popcorn......much like Lost Boys or Buckaroo Banzai.....

Is there anyway we can convince Ivan Draahem Dolph Lundgren to come out of retirement to do another Fan-Funded Follow-up to Masters of the Universe??....He can start out by making a youtube vid where he asks, begs, then threatens to make a super low budget unwanted prequel to MOTU if he doesn't get the $$ to make a Sequel 1st.....By the Power of Kickstarter.....we could have the Power turned back on after He-man Pays his overdues.....just a thought....

Yeah, the Budget was always a huge issue and you can see that. I understand moving the plot to earth but trying to show Eteria and make it believable would have been difficult. Think of all the matte work the production team would had to do.

I think it would have more money to work with if it was made today. Maybe $100 million to work with.

If there ever was a movie to consider "so bad it's good" then it's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The budget was far too low. It was produced by Golan-Globus who also made the horrible 4th Superman film, "The Quest for Peace". They worked on a shoe string budget, and the final climatic battle between He-Man and Skeletor was shot after principle filming was complete. If the final, epic battle between good and evil is a re-shoot you're in trouble. The problem was, in 1987 it was a kids toy cash grab. No one thought, "hey in like 15 years the kids who are buying these crappy toys are going to be nostalgic for their youth and looking to spend loads of money on this stuff". There was little to no precedent for this situation. The only really good live action, comics/toys/TV shows to movies we had back then were Superman I and II. X-Men wouldn't be out for a decade and Batman was 2-3 years away. If He-Man had a budget for better actors, a better script and better effects we could have had a truly awesome He-Man movie. Orko, Battle Cat, Prince Adam and the rest could have made the final cut. We can only hope that Mattel and whatever studio has the rights to this takes the property seriously and gives us an epic, Lord of the Rings scale, sci-fi fantasy epic. Cross the good Star Wars with it's humor, (not slapstick or outright winking at the camera) and the epic scale and seriousness of LotR and we could have an amazing He-Man.

Lundgren made a really great He-Man IMO. Langella also made a really great Skeletor, only his facial make-up effects were limited due to the era. Evil Lyn was cast well too. I think Teela should have been a different actress, someone with a bit more sex appeal. Man at Arms wasn't too bad.

The introduction of Gwildor, Blade, and Saurod were perfect opportunities to release new figures.

The only thing really lacking was the story. It would have been better if it didn't involve a trip to Earth.

i have to watch this again. i havent watched it since it first came out. i was young and expected way to much of it at the time. while similar, it was still too far from the MOTU i knew and loved. i will have to give it another go since i'm more open minded and understanding of how comic/toy films really did get the budget/respect shaft back in the day.

It is still a little corny at times but I enjoyed the story and the action sequences. I personally think Frank Langella as skeletor saved this movie from being really bad. His performance is awesome. I can totally see skeletor as being like the character in the movie. :)

For it's time I think it was a decent movie. Sure a little campy but again for that time I thought it worked well. No other toy license at that time was able to pull off a live-action movie like that nor comic book characters.

Whats kinda funny and ironic in today's market where Super Hero films and even to some extent toy based films like Transformers are so popular box office wise at least, poor He-Man can't seem to get off the ground with a modern movie.

i dont understand what/who is holding it up. LOTR, the Hobbit, and Harry Potter have already set the stage for high level, respecting, fantasy movies. hire peter jackson even, it'll give him something to do after the Hobbit sequel. even if your not a He-Fan, the popularity of fantasy films have gone way up thanks to todays level of special fx. if done right, this would be a gold mine.

Why don't they just save some $$ & take the Lundgren "MOTU" movie & re-master of the universe it in 3D.....then give it the "Lucas" treatment and make sure that Teela shoots first when she squares off against Evil-lyn........I know I would rent it @ Redbox....

Can you imagine the hate this movie would have gotten if there was The Internet in the 80s? With fanboys crying foul over "cannon violation"? Just the fact that the costumes weren't carbon copies of the cartoon would have been enough to set them off. Not to mention Courtney Cox.

I liked the movie well enough. Will still watch the DVD from time to time.
