Padmé Didn’t Die of a Broken Heart There’s something you missed.

Hmm...that's an angle I've never considered. It's brilliant. I continue to be fascinated by the proposed depth and scope of Palpatine's evil machinations. To me he might be the most fascinating character in the entire saga.

I don't think so. That guy shoots his own theory in the foot. Palpatine is powerful enough to drain the life force from Padme from afar, yet he doesn't know she's pregnant? If Palps is draining the force from Padme, he would at minimum sense the force of the twins and or drain the force of the twins.

I guess I'm just an old romantic. I think its much more poignant that seeing the man she loved crossing over to be counted among everything they ever stood against, and even lashing out at her and their unborn children in anger, was just to much for Padme to bear. Once her children were in safe hands, she just gave up. You hear about people dying of sorrow after losing a husband/wife all the time.

Well, the more I think of it, I'm reminded that Palpatine couldn't have known Anakin was gonna Force-choke Padme, although Force-users can see glimpses of the future. It's not totally implausible that Palpatine would take advantage of Padme dying to "seal the deal" as it were, in turning Anakin completely over to the Dark Side through his despair. How he would accomplish that however remains somewhat of a mystery...

I also don't necessarily like the part of the theory that proposes Palpatine drains Padme's life force and transfers it to Vader in order for him to live. That part is quite a stretch, but his theory is interesting nonetheless.

Come to think of it he could of drained the force from the children and not pick up on them with her being so emotional.Plus if you notice Luke and Leia didn't know they had the force till later as adults.Luke couldn't pick up on another Jedi like Ben Kenobi did.It could of taken years for the midichlorian levels to rise back up.

Interesting. Good points, Wheeljack. Also, Palpatine obscured his presence from the Jedi Council for decades, so couldn't the Force, in-turn, have obscured the presence of the twins from Palpatine, given they were heralded as "a new hope"? After all, it's implied that the Force is a sentient entity of sorts. This is all very fascinating to me.

this is kinda what I went with.....that or the true cause of Padme's death was Hayden C's acting method.....Women do die in childbirth even in galaxies far far away....I'm sure the "Padme...NOooooooo!" phrase was the death-blow....she had an pleasant death face given how she was killed by grief, twins & shame.....most of us are prolly gonna go out w/Jabba's death face.....eyes bulging tongue hanging, death comes for the sexy.....#sexydeathface #deadjabbalook #padmegaveup #padmenooooo #padmatricide....tongue.gif

Oh let him have his fun. If he wants to explain away one of the many weak story points in the prequels, let him at it. I think it's an interesting idea, at least.

My question would be why didn't Emperor suck the force out of Luke from afar in ROTJ? Wouldn't that have solved his problems?

(I loved all those JK Simmons clips!)

Me too, man. I've loved Mr. Simmons in every movie, commercial, or tv show I've ever seen him in. Glad he finally got some real (and very deserving) recognition...

As far as reading too much into movies like the Star Wars prequels, all of that stuff is fun to entertain and debate over, but really, at the end of the day, as a movie-goer, I personally don't like everything explained and spoon-fed to me. Sometimes I just like leaving some unexplained things open for interpretation, or perhaps I might come-up with my own personal explanation as to why something unexplained is the way it is in a given film. That's half the fun sometimes, as long as what's left open to interpretation isn't idiotic.

I just want someone to tackle Batman & Robin for me. Let's see if they can rationalize that one. (lol)

Batman and Robin was about 30% (attempted) homage to the Adam West camp and 70% toy commercial. Made by creators who were openly not serious about it and a cast hired because they were the "it" names at the time. There's nothing to rationalize because it's all been admitted to and apologized for.

Gentlemen...it was a joke. (lol) I love Batman & Robin for what it is, a gloriously-campy homage to the tv show and lighter comics. I get it, but it's still pretty awful as an entry in the original film series...

Having said that, in recent years I've come to realize that the Burton/Schumacher Bat-films are truly meant to be comic-book films in the truest sense, complete with exaggerated, moody atmosphere, fantastic, over-the-top stunts, and overly dramatic dialogue, none of which is meant to resemble anything realistic. In my younger days I made the mistake of not fully grasping that, therefore I've been a little less-than forgiving in my critiques and analysis of each of the pre-Nolan films, all-the-while expecting them to be some true-to-life iteration of a comic-book world. When you look at them with the understanding that they're meant to be essentially live-action comics, then they become much more enjoyable. Heck, I still want to see Movie Master-style figures from each film, including Batman & Robin; I still love the designs and costumes, despite some of my misgivings for the film itself.

I have to admit though, feat...I'm like you in that I can't get past the ludicrous sub-plot involving "The Box" in Batman Forever. It's just plain dumb as a plot device, no matter how much camp it's wrapped-up in...

:OT: Sorry, fellas. My bad... (lol)
