What was the worst DC movie?

After a viewing of Superman IV, how can I not make this thread?

There have definitely been some DC duds. I'll address a couple that spring readily to my mind (and no doubt yours).

Batman and Robin. Any criticism of this film is completely justifiable and we've all heard it before. Lately though, I've been giving this movie a pass. Why? Because camp is, for better or worse, part of Batman's rich history. That 60s TV show is iconic. I'm personally not a huge fan, but I recognize that others are. When viewing Batman and Robin as STRICTLY an homage to this aspect of Batman lore, the movie becomes tolerable. No...this is not the worst DC movie.

Green Lantern. A lot of people think this movie didn't cut it. I don't think it did either. It could have been a LOT better, yet it was not terrible. Really, this is just another superhero movie that falls into what will likely be the largest category of superhero movies; mediocre. Nothing more, nothing less.

Superman III. This is DC's "strike one" in the movie department. Completely forgettable except for a young Annette O'Toule filming a picnic scene on a very cold set. The producers tried to make us forget that Gene Hackman wasn't on board for this dud by writing in "villains" that were carbon copies if Luthor and Ms. Tesmacher. Oh, and Richard Prior was in the movie. Apparently instructed to not be funny. What was the plot? I honestly can't remember.

Superman IV. Just a shoddy film. Wire work on Superman and Nuclear Man clearly visible in multiple scenes, a battle on the "moon" where instead of stars the audience can see the folds in the black background tarp, and of course, Marial Hemingway can survive in outer space wearing nothing but an 80s business suit. I mean, are we supposed to give this a pass because it's an "old" movie? One scene that was particularly baffling was when Clark walked off the roof with Lois in hand revealing (for the second time) that he's Superman. They go flying again. After they land, Supes goes into the bathroom, comes out, and Lois forgets? Again? WTF???

Someone else will have to speak to Steel and Catwoman. I saved my money on both of those. In my experience, though it's a close call between Supes III and IV, I have to give it to Superman IV. The worst DC Movie.

(lol) I love bad movies. Batman & Robin and Superman IV definitely are tied for worst DC films for me. They're like watching comedies though...they're unintentionally hilarious.

The one scene in Superman IV that seals the deal is when "Solar Man" (Is that even his name?) destroys the Great Wall of China, and Superman shows up and puts it all back together...with his eyes. (lol) What kind of ludicrous mutant power allows him to do that?! It just screams, "Hey, we were way over budget and short on time, so we just took the easy (not to mention lazy and stupid) way out." (lol)

I would have to say Batman & Robin simply because the girl I saw it with was trying to comfort me after words by saying sorry.

She thought it would be a sure hit to take me and see it, but understood how horribly wrong it was. @loll@ I guess just watching the film with HER was the best part. ;) She was fine.

i can't really say batman and robin because arnold is in it. funny story i couldn't watch it at first because i was on vacation when it came out and my best bud went and said it was awesome. when i came back he didn't wanted to see it again. i should have known better because we always watch movies together once or twice. so i went in and man was i dissapointed but i wasn't a real batman forever fan either so i thought it would be better and not worse. in time i love to watch it just for the arnold quotes, lol. as for the worst dc movie to me it's steel. that was bad. really bad. really really bad.

Ah, THAT was the other one I wanted to point out but I couldn't remember at the time I wrote this.

I sat there for a long time trying to figure out what I just saw there. "OK", I said "the special effects just aren't up to par at the time...what superpower are they alluding to?" But there was none. Turns out, they just made up a superpower for him.

Again, a shoddy movie.

i am hyped for superman right now and i started watching the old ones yesterday. watch the first superman yesterday and i really love it because they took a lot of time developing clark as a character. i love that. so when he turns to superman the first time is just awesome because you can't wait for it to happen. the ending was nonsense with him flying around the earth but i forgive and forget. for the 70's and even today this is an awesome movie. tonight part 2.

Yeah, I agree with everything there. You really have to tell a definitive Superman story to overlook that BS ending, and they did. Which Superman II are you watching, original or Donner cut? Personally, I like the Donner cut a lot better, only it has the same problem, the same BS ending! Ugh. But again, the first 95% of the film is enjoyable so you overlook it.

i still have to get the donner cut again on blu-ray. i got the blu-ray box. at first i thought the donner cut was included when i got it in the shop. later on i found out that amazon had the exclusivity for the superman box with the donner cut. i saw it once on dvd and i liked it allthough i have a hard time to remember it because i just saw it once. i guess that pegs will be full of dvd's and blu-ray's with man of steel on the horizon so i will get the donner cut then :-)

having recently rewatched them, Id have to say that I find Batman Forever is more grating than Batman and Robin. At least Batman and Robin knew exactly what it wanted to be from conception, while Forever is a muddled mess trying to take new diraction yet still holding some strings from the Burton films. Jim Carrey, though no fault of his own, needed a leash, Tommy Lee Jones is just plain @##@@ awful, Kidman and Kilmer bore, and Robin...jesus...how old is that "kid?" he looks younger in B&R!

Thurman and Silverstone...yeeeeeah...it was a close call. But im still gonna say Forever.

The Dark Knight. the producers taking advantage of a man's drug abuse related death is nothing short of sick.

@?@

I must have missed that part.

So did Heath Ledger.

Yeah, I know you're talking about Ledger, I guess I'm still missing something. They didn't have Joker in the third one. They left the character alone out of respect. DKR made no mention of Ledger or Joker. I don't see where they're "taking advantage".

Kind of like Superman IV more than Superman III. Granted, Superman IV is still bad, but I'm able to enjoy that more than III. I liked Nuclear Man as a threat(Since he was strong if not stronger than Superman physically), but I could never understand why he was Solar Powered, even if Superman tossed Lex's modified Nuclear Missile with Superman's stan of hair to the sun. People complain about Nuclear Man's costume, but to me, it kind of reminded me of a costume you would of seen someone wear during the Golden Age of comics, as if this a character from that time frame.

In III, liked Annette O'Toule as a Adult Lana Lang, and I thought the whole concept of Superman becoming corrupt to the point that he split into 2 was interesting(Too bad it probably cause may people to go "What The..." when it happened. Probably a quick explination would of helped out. Also, would of been even cooler if it was Superman V.S. Corrupt Superman/Bizzaro, instead of Clark V.S. Corrupt Superman/Bizzaro), but to be honest, the only scene I really remember from that movie was when the wannable "Brainaic" Super Computer was causing some chaos, which resulted in some animated Pedestrian Traffic Symbols fighting each other(Seriously, right up there with Batman's "Forever" Credit card in Batman And Robin).

I actually don't mind Batman And Robin, as it's my favourite Bad Movie to watch, and for it's cheese factor. Plus, I liked Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, and Uma Thurman Posion Ivy wasn't too bad, if very hammy. I can still watch it from time to time, but I'm not going to deny that it's the worst of the Batman movies that have been out since 1989.

Steel, I only saw once, and thought it was so-so(It's been years since I've seen it). I actually didn't mind the fact that they were trying to do an origin without any Superman influence, as it was sort of a way to make him his own hero, instead of a character that needs Superman for his origins. That said, I wonder if the Red Hair girl in the movie who got paralyzed, put in a wheelchair, and was a computer wiz was suppose to eventually be the D.C. Movie Universe verison of Oracle at the time, since Batgirl was blonde in Batman And Robin? Again, 1 scene I really remember was near the end of the movie, the Red Hair Computer Wiz girl on the wheelchair activated some sort of rocket boosters on her wheelchair(Again, right up there with Batman's Credit Card in Batman And Robin).

Never saw Catwoman. Don't think I ever will. The scenes from the commericals I saw, and comments from various people are enough to convince me to never see it ever.

Will check out Green Lantern, even if the reviews on the movie wasn't so good. Could be good. Could be crap. But I'm willing to check it out. 1 thing I do find interesting is that Amanda Waller is in the GL movie, so that makes me wonder if they were already planting seeds for cross DC Movie Universe that would of lead to Justice League, at least at the time the GL movie came out.

Ah, another thing about Superman IV. A strand of Supes' hair is supporting a 1,000 lb weight. When Lex goes to steal it, I told myself, "I bet he's just gonna whip out a scissors and cut the hair even though anything strong enough to support that much weight would obviously need something a bit more heavy-duty to cut through".

Sure enough....

Kind of like Superman IV more than Superman III.

I can see that. As bad as Superman IV was, in the final analysis it was still a Superman movie. The most you can say about Superman 3 is that it was a vehicle for Richard Pryor to run some uninspired schtick, and Chris Reeve just happened to have a supporting role.

I agree. I mean, just the opening sequence alone is enough to discount Superman 3. The entire city is filled with accident prone morons! Did some unseen villain zap Metropolis with a doofus ray?
