If any of you were to see what the fate of open toys were in my collection you'd totaly understand. They all end up in a big dusty "Diamond distributer" box collecting even more dust.
BUT!!! These Masterpices are by all means something more along the collecting rules of a statchue rather than an action figure. It is my belief that it would be an abombination to deprive the figure the privilage to display its TRUELY SUPREME quality & craftsmanship!!!
So not only will I open this Materpice, I'm gonna open them all. MIND YOU! the box & insert tray will be kept in mint condition & the fig when not on display (like that U.S. constitution its self) will be put back in the tray & box & allowed to endure the long passage of time LOCK in there tomb. Only to emerge to make rare "special guest star" appearances to select audiances.
in other words you gotta make the "A List" to see my babies!!!.............sike, (maby).

But these Masterpices are GALAXYIES apart from anything Mattel may have done on a 12" scale! BTW have you guys all seen the new pic JayC posted in the new BRJ thread...............MAN-O-MAN are they ever SWEET!!!! I'm telling you, all I do is stare at them. there so hypnotic & mind blowing that I just can't help my self.
Now I know a few of you guys have said you might go thr route of just buying the new head sculpt off ebay or something, but PEOPLE, come on! LOOK AT HIM! He's the best thing we'll ever seen in a joker fig. The two pice suit, the duffle bag LOADED WITH TERROR WEAPONS OF DISTRUCTION!!! Automatic asult rifel, high calabur hand gun, Bozo the clown bank robbery mask, wads of cash, & new asortment of Joker playing cards!!! look I know I prob sound like some kind of shamless ad for the damn thing, but I'm telling you, you can't get all the WICKED COOL stuff that it comes with, by only buying the head off ebay.
Like Ferris Buller said about the Ferrarie "If you have the mean, I highly suggest you pick one up". & picking up this BRJ is just what i'll be doing the second it hits the e-tailers.

Well how much are these things really worth, material wise. You look at it, its just well sculpted plastic with well cut cloth and neatly applied paint. Cant really cost to much to make them, could it? Correct me if I am wronge here, but I am not really that 'in the know' of 1/6 scaled figures.

take yor average fig...poor paint, maybe some good apps here and there..rubber clothes....and you pay in between 10-25 bucks for those. you see where thr extra money is going with these hot toys figs.(could be 30 bucks cheaper though)

Now I'm just taking a guess here, but i'd estimate the original sculpted work was most likely sold some where in the neighborhood of $20,000. These artis aren't stupid. they know Hot Toys are raking it in hand over fist. So yeah, there gonna charge a nice pice of change.
Some of these master sculpts can take awhile too. every thing is done by hand. & even when it goes in to production, its not like the average action fig assmbly line. I'm sure some amount of automation takes place but a lot of the work for the figs we get is done by hand (sweat shop hands, but still by hand none the less).

Then you have the accessories, multiple heads, etc. All painstakingly detailed and, when needed, hand-painted. They mass produce statues, that don't move or have any sort of tailoring, for the most part, and they tend to be in the $300 - $1,000 range. Just because these are technically action figures doesn't mean they aren't works of art. My Hot Toys figures are the best looking pieces I own, and I've got a few statues myself. Nothing comes close to them.

The master sculpts is what drives the price up. Since Ledger is dead they can't just ask him to come in to a work shop somewhere for a 360 view of his head, the way Gentle Giant does it. Instead they are going by photographs. And in the case of Ledger as the Joker they are cutting every nook and cranny that makeup put on his face. That is kind of work is worth at least 150 dollar for each figure for reproduction.

The Dark Knight was such an incredible movie... I'm happy to see that some of the movie memoribillia holds up to the same standards.

OMG! what a photo spread!!! The texture of the fig's flesh under the make up, the look of cold steel of the automatic asult rifle, the detail of the duffle bag & all the grenades & smoke bombs (side note, did any one catch on the the smoke bomb was a nod to classic Joker's use of gas to kill).
I also love the way the artis choose to have each head's eyes looking in a differant direction. slick back eyes look straight at you with total intent to kill. crazy hair looks off to the side as if he ploting his next kill. Or maby its safe to say the guy is just plain pyco!! & we'll never know the true nature of the wicked black mass that has become his soul. waiting for this fig IS KILLING ME!!!!

The toy is a lot simply for bein a limited run like all 12 inch figures. If cornerstorecomics ever sell these, I suggest buyin there since their prices are always lower than others. As for buyin it opened, don't expect to save a lot. A lot of ppl in the hobby buy loose (a lot of online shops break up some of their stocks as loose parts) and those tend to fetch a quite a penny
I mean, a weapon from hot toys goes for 11-25. Somethin like a H.toys p90 is 20 bucks at monkeydepot.com
That fig looks great, sadly I am strap esp having to borrow 130 from a sibling for a 1/6 military video game figure
